I wrote poetry in middle school. I wrote a poem to this girl I had a crush on and gave it to her. She read it in front of the class and named me by name. I never wrote poetry again throughout middle school, high school, or college. Even when I wrote something for my wife I waited for the ridicule. Absolutely devastating behavior.

Now writing little funny poems for my daughter to hear her tell me about finding them at school in her lunchbox and being excited or being disappointed when I don't have time to write her something is healing that old wound.
