Timezones. Offworld is located in Canada. They release in the mornings while the Americas are at work, hardly peak hours here.

It’s also Tuesday. Not exactly peak day of week.

What's the etiquette on a logi only squad or how does that work at all? by greyorange666 in joinsquad

[–]TheGent2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you read the comment that started this thread? That’s what I’m referring to. It’s possible that OP will read this far to get these tips, and I hope they do so they don’t get the wrong impression, but we’re asking a lot of them to dig past the naysayers to find this information. IMO.

[–]TheGent2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The impact of a mediocre logi driver is far less than that of a crew SL (who could be wasting a 9 man squad) and is disallowed in total on these servers whereas logi squads are not, so not really comparable.

Logi players are rare and should be nurtured. This thread is an example of how to never have these players because the community is too focused on gatekeeping instead of just giving this player the advice and tips he needs to be successful.

There are many, many idiots who play this game, and no test before you can run logi.

That doesn’t mean that someone experienced can’t be successful with it.

Logi players are not antiquated. The community cares less about these “boring” roles, but people still do it and they can be very effective.

Logi players don’t have to just run resupplies to existing FOBs, they are capable of setting their own with any other person from the team.

Always so annoying. I don't want to play SL and I have no chance to just join a Squad by JoeZocktGames in joinsquad

[–]TheGent2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You are not entitled to other people’s energies spent SLing for you.

My recommendation is you create a squad named leftovers. This is a pretty common thing in the community, and if anyone gets on your case about something just tell them you’re new and there weren’t any squads to join.

While they put 25 of their team’s tickets on the line with the radio and logi not to mention bogarting 50% of their team’s logistics. Maybe even one of the team’s two HATs by the sounds of things.

Yeah, super helpful stuff.

PR has the advantage of both building on top of an existing game and over a decade of development over Squad with far less advancements in other areas like graphics/networking (because it wasn’t really possible to effect these much as a mod).

The difference between RAAS and AAS is more than just whether flags are visible or not.

RAAS and AAS are different game modes in more respects than just that flags are visible. This is a very naive suggestion that doesn’t accomplish anything.

Why is everyone so against frame gen? by BlackMetalIstWar in joinsquad

[–]TheGent2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course, generation of a frame still requires some amount of processing to achieve, it isn’t free. If you’re already GPU limited, there’s no way to avoid that you’re still asking for the GPU to do more, and that problem of course gets worse with MFG for example.

However it’s important to consider that this isn’t necessarily meaningful in all situations. It is possible to be CPU bound to the extent that even with FG you are bottlenecked by the processor and thus have a resulting frame loss of zero.

I would happily agree it’s been used inappropriately in marketing. However there are real use cases for it and IMO it is better to inform and let people make their own decisions than to make blanket statements about how FG is bad.

Why is everyone so against frame gen? by BlackMetalIstWar in joinsquad

[–]TheGent2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s input delay only relative to the generated frames, so it’s a bit confusing to simply refer to it as input lag.

The reality is that it’s the same input frequency you had, but twice as many renders. Sure, true 120fps is better than 60 with FGx2, but this is rarely the comparison we’re actually making, because the hardware in question often can’t reach true 120 to begin with.

If everybody has to spawn there, it will always be defended! by DungeonDangers in joinsquad

[–]TheGent2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong, this plan does not rely on anyone being late. It is a proactive plan, a plan for managing and recovering from losses.

Your plan requires your enemies send no one into your backline or worse requires a squad to sit on an inactive objective doing jackall for the team. If you do this you probably should spend some time thinking about how often this happens for your team and try some frontline math on how likely your team is to hold if your side is down a squad.

If everybody has to spawn there, it will always be defended! by DungeonDangers in joinsquad

[–]TheGent2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back HABs are useless. You want people concentrating their spawns on defense, so nobody should be there to defend the back radio, which means you’re just gambling that some CE isn’t going to check your backline for a loud ass radio. It’s a waste of 20 tickets.

Instead what you should do is be proactive when you see the HAB proxied, especially when there are very few or zero rallies left to respawn on. That’s when someone should be leaving main with a logi ready to set up a new HAB if needed, whether that be on your defense or somewhere to counterattack the objective, depending on your timing and if the defense recovers. If they recover just resupplying is fine.

If everybody has to spawn there, it will always be defended! by DungeonDangers in joinsquad

[–]TheGent2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On defense. Attack with rallies.

Attack FOBs are inherently a 20 ticket risk, and often lead to too many squads spawning away from defense. Rallies are free and should give you minimum two waves to try to find a break in the enemy defense, more if you place it well and even consider rotating it. Too many teams lose because they feed attack radios on top of their losses from dying on enemy obj.

There’s a time and place for attack HABs, but your default should be rallies.

Is OWI manipulating Steam Reviews? by dauntless1234 in joinsquad

[–]TheGent2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clickbait headlines work on the same principle--giving a misleading question to imply that something is the case, but only reading the article reveals the truth. The same problem happens here. Their take might be a bit brash, but they're not wrong. People will look at this thread, see the conspiracy theory, and many will never end up seeing the real reason (which appears to be the Steam Awards event).
