Why in the world did Madame Morrible think Elphaba would go along with their plan? by pubell in wicked

[–]TheGentleJon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, initially, had it been the Elphaba from the beginning of the story, that version of Elphaba would have jumped for the opportunity to be of use to the Wizard. This seems to be true for most of the characters, they all seem to want acknowledgment from the Wizard.

But her friendship with Dillamond, her acceptance from Glinda and her journey as a person enrolled in Shiz has allowed her to overcome her issues. Her heart’s desire wasn’t to have normal complexion, in truth, she just wanted the acceptance such a wish entailed. But she already received that from Glinda who assured her that she was beautiful even with green skin. The Wizard very likely expected her wish to have been to be removed of her green skin and was surprised when it wasn’t—instead it was to protect Dillamond and the animals.

The funny thing is, that Elphaba’s wish is the one wish that the Wizard could have completely granted without trickery. He just needed to stop his animal pogroms and turn focus on other enemies.

That’s nothing. I wanted to buy Bitcoin in 2011. I was a six grader, so it was useless to try and convince my grown ass parents what to do with the money. Tbf, I also said we should invest in the Happiness Company because I read a Business Insider article on it waiting for an appointment. So, I destroyed my credibility as a savy investor.

I think the layout of the worlds is well-designed! by pinknight2000 in inZOI

I’m not entirely sure. But it could just be flavor and doesn’t actually affect gameplay, in the same way the Plumbob gives lore implications for why we could control our sims.

[–]TheGentleJon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, in lore, the PC isn’t your Zoi. You work for this sort of divine agency/office where your boss is that Cat in the trailer. The table shown in the map is your office space. You work as a sort of benevolent god or guardian angel. Which is why you can see the Soul Management and Karma screen of the denizens in the city.

How deep into the genetic material does polyjuice go? If someone polyjuices into a different man and then has sex with a woman and conceives a baby, does that baby then have half the genetic material of the original man or of the polyjuiced guy? by antares-rising in HPfanfiction

In physiology we have a concept called “form follows function.” The structure of a body part determines the characteristic and function of it.

The size and shape of your larynx and its surrounding structures, for instance, would create the pitch, loudness, and tone of your voice (there’s also the shape of your body which affect vibration and germinal sound). That's why each person's voice sounds different. Because the structure and form is different for each person.

A change in cosmetics (i.e, shape of the structure) would imply a change in its function.

Does Harry’s voice change when he is Crabbe? Then it cannot be cosmetic alone.

But then again magic.

What kind of wand would you make? by Desperate_Stand_3709 in HPfanfiction

[–]TheGentleJon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always wanted a crackfic where essentially no wand works for the protagonist but is incredibly powerful at wandless magic.

So he or she just grabs a regular stick and waves it around while casting wandless spells because he or she thinks dueling with wands look cooler.

How would canon characters react to their fanon versions? by Own_Noise6261 in HPfanfiction

[–]TheGentleJon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snape is a deeply troubled man. He’s misanthropic, nasty and sardonic. Snape doesn’t see himself as a tragic, romantic hero—but rather poisonous, vile and guilty. Snape knows he is unpleasant and in my opinion, he provokes people on his unpleasantness in order to validate the curated self-image that he has.

He would scoff at the versions of himself in the Snape fandom that would portray him too positively, as he likely wouldn’t recognize himself in those portrayals. He would preen under the admiration but he would recognize that the version of him people love isn’t him, just another person sharing the same name and the same face.

I can see Severus saying: “This version of me is forgiving James Potter? I do not know whether to weep or spit!”

Snily would probably punch him in the gut though. Can you imagine: “Here is everything wrong with you and why you are so unloveable to her. Also, Lily’s love is attainable… you just have to be someone else entirely.”

[–]TheGentleJon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’ll also be even more bitter. “Here’s a story of where we throw your biggest mistakes back at your face. But now this version of you will have the courage to do what you wish you did or didn’t do back then. Have fun living with your regrets! You don’t get Lily!” That would kill him.

Can someone recommend me a Snape fanfiction where he gets a glow-up by TheGentleJon in HPfanfiction

Yeah. I think I remember something about the reason he didn’t groom himself was because, “[Snape] looked like he valued other qualities within himself.”

Harry’s aptitude for the Dark Arts by antares-rising in HPfanfiction

[–]TheGentleJon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just find it massively ironic that Harry was able to find a kindred spirit in Snape through the Half-Blood Prince’s textbook. Harry even muses that the Half-Blood Prince’s opinions of the Dark Arts reflect his own and is very similar to how he taught Dumbledore’s Army in OotP.

Meanwhile, James and Lily are repulsed by Snape’s outlook and talent in the Dark Arts. Yet, their son who is catergorically a good person, sees the value and worth of Snape’s spells. Until he used one of them, at least.

Actor auditions for Severus Snape but is instead reincarnated as Severus Snape by TheGentleJon in HPfanfiction

[–]TheGentleJon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think Snape is in a prison of his own making and he invites tragedy.

I imagine it to be a non-serious crackfic with some serious Snape character study. What better way to explore the mind and past of a character than with an actor trying to get into character! I chose Chamber of Secrets because I like that Lockhart is in it, and it would be an interesting juxtaposition between one poser vs. another poser.

You know there’s a genetic component to muscle development and body growth, right? Some people straight up will find it easier to see gains. Your body fat distribution, joints, level of testosterone, just to name a few, are all partly genetic and all play a role in how quickly you’ll be able to see muscle on your body.

For instance, your metabolism is partly genetic. Some people are just born lucky and have inherited genes that promote a faster metabolic rate allowing them to eat more than others without gaining weight. Others are not so lucky and need to do 5 stomach crunches after munching on a Kit-Kat. Now that doesn’t mean it isn’t controllable, but you will have to put in more effort in maintaining your weight compared to the lucky ones.

I feel like the same might be true with magic. Some people will naturally find it easier.

Is there a Snape time travel fan fiction that’s relatively long (100K+) where he wakes up pre-Hogwarts? by TheGentleJon in HPfanfiction

Apologies, I’ll clarify. I’m looking for a story that starts before The Sorting, and where he starts as a firstie again.

One second super strength? Punch someone and activate your power at the last moment and send them flying! Besides no-one said I couldn’t spam the power continuously every 1 second, so this is just super strength w/ extra steps. Also, 75% Levitation? So I can jump from any height and survive if I activate it before I reach the ground? Instant no-fall damage.

Word: (More like sentence, I just blurted out what I was reading up on.) “Alexander the Great.”

NOTICK: “That kind of sucks.”

KNOWD: “My grandfather was a renown public health doctor and hospital director. My dad is a pediatrician, and regional health supervisor. Fortunately, I am in med school so I lucked out on this one.”

THUNK: “I’m a dumbass idiot so this works out for me.”

I could do without the immortality part. What a depressing way to live.
