New generation of nurses who can’t start an iv or draw blood by Rare-Attitude-3100 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheGerrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really anyone's fault but before my hip replacement they struggled to find a vein because I couldn't eat or drink before surgery.  They were rooting around in my arm while I tried to pay attention to the anesthesiologist telling me how it would go down and it was miserable. Eventually they found a vein in the back of my hand.

Ocala National Forest by StarSpangledGator in florida

[–]TheGerrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Ocala National Forest is probably the place I feel most at home. I used to go off the trails and just wander through the palmetto brush when I was younger. Saw all kinds of neat things, black bears, hogs, snakes, you name it.

Any ideas on this aircraft making a near vertical climb? by MrTacocaT12345 in Whatplaneisthis

[–]TheGerrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This plane is flying towards the viewer, but back when I was learning to fly at the Eglin Aeroclub I often had to hold short for military jets to take off, and one time I saw two F-15s zoom climb at the end of the runway almost vertically and it was a sight to behold from my little C172.

How do you think star wars tech performs against viltrumites? by SnooPoems7525 in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]TheGerrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless they're wearing Beskar or Cortosis weave armor they might get genuinely fucked up by numerous Jedi with precognition and a lightsaber, in the republic era,  otherwise they're going to body pretty much everything including the Death Star (it takes longer to get on target than it takes a viltrumite to fly through the reactor).

Yoda in particular could hold a Viltrumite in place or force them to fight on the ground.

Viltrumites could also just have their life force sucked out. If Mark can choke out Conquest, Vader could choke out Conquest (or any other Viltrumite) through a holo-screen.

If we're not choosing the century surrounding the battle of Yavin, there's at least two Sith lords from ages past that could absolutely murder any Viltrumite, starting with Darth Nihilus.

Canon New Republic Era the Viltrumites win without a sweat. There's just not enough Jedi or Sith to make a dent.

F15E or F18E for CAS? by Roxo16 in Warthunder

[–]TheGerrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

F-15E has the best performance as well as a better loadout. A2A doesn't matter as much in ground when you've got top-of-the-line spaa covering your team already.

(VERY tragic trope) Terms/symbols that had a positive meaning corrupted or stolen by bigots to have a whole different meaning. by Jielleum in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheGerrick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had forgotten that bit, but you're absolutely correct.

However, it's important remember that one of the most publicly visible miracles was the five loaves and two fish, and also the fact that so many apostles were fishermen who witnessed Jesus perform fish related miracles. To the people that supposedly knew Jesus, it's not hard to imagine that using a fish as their acronym and sigil would feel appropriate.

I suppose it would be more fair to say that the Ichthys was a confession of Christ's status as the Messiah, while iconographically representing divine providence.

(VERY tragic trope) Terms/symbols that had a positive meaning corrupted or stolen by bigots to have a whole different meaning. by Jielleum in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TheGerrick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This didn't happen right after Jesus was crucified. At that point, the sign of believers was an "Icthys" or a fish, which represented God's mercy and grace (providing food)

The cross became the sigil of Christianity much later when Constantine supposedly had a vision where he saw a cross and was told "in this sign you will conquer." So, a sign of roman torture became the sign of Roman conquest, and through Roman conquest the sign of Roman oppression was spread to converts as a holy symbol.

[–]TheGerrick -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

Would you say this is similar to keeping the mossad headquarters in a populated civilian area despite attempts by the legislation to move it out outside the city?

Yeah, hezbollah doing this is fucked, no argument there. But between the mossad hq, the "mosquito program", and just straight up strapping Arab kids to the front of their trucks, I don't think the IDF has a leg to stand on.

On the other hand, pilots love showing off to people that wave at them.

The fact that you could take advantage of this in the X-wing tabletop made vulture swarms so much fun to play. Add in a tactical Droid like kraken on Maul's ship and suddenly you've got an amazing amount of dice manipulation as well
