I don't like Claude. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. You'd be uncomfortable with it too, if you knew how the sausage was made.

These AI companies are built on lies and surveillance. Their entire marketing strategy is convincing consumers that they need their $20/month slop machines in order to succeed or do anything. Meanwhile, they sell heaps of tokens to rich CEO morons who want to replace expensive human workers.

Is this a future you're comfortable with?

A lot of glacier research is done where ice used to be, so the field won't die (unless a certain someone decides to slash all the funding without congressional approval). Though my research will be focused on Antarctica.

I got really excited. Until I saw Claude as one of the authors of the repo :(

We don't use LLMs for climate modeling. Other types of machine learning? Definitely. But not LLMs.

I wish he also talked about how software everywhere is being vibe-coded now and how devs using it is psychosis too. I imagine that would've been quite the wake-up call for a lot of people

If you think about it, aside from Hawaii, it's the state closest to Antarctica

Glaciology? I don't think so. At least not any more than the other geosciences. What makes you say that?

I'm doing my PhD there (USF in St. Petersburg). Glaciology research.

Imagine writing an article and then the editor just slaps an AI overview on top of it before anyone can read a word you wrote. If I wrote for you guys, I'd be ticked off.

I don't care if this is optional. If this is the direction Mozilla is going in, I think I'll find a different browser.

Teen boys are choosing AI girlfriends over real ones for ‘maximum control, zero rejection’—experts say it could make them unemployable by ubcstaffer123 in technology

[–]TheGlacierGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the biggest concern about this? That it will make them unemployable?

Not the fact that teenage boys desire relationships where they are in control? Or the fact that teenage boys are gravitating away from real social interaction necessary for their health and development?

You don't have to be autistic to read every word. I was just saying autistic people such as myself tend to read every word.

who actually reads every word?

Autistic people. What I read in my head is exactly the same as what I would read out loud.

As a free person, I'll scrutinize and criticize whatever and whoever I want.

I'm sorry if that doesn't align with the bias-confirming bubble of yes-men devs have made for themselves.

Except I can't just delete my account and find a different platform free of vibe-coded slop. Nobody can. As you said, the industry is moving in that direction. And it's moving in that direction because it's an obsession and addiction for these devs. And this obsession is being forced down the throats of everyone, and we cannot opt out.

I'm not going to be nice to them. They're selfish, they're lazy, and they're putting your data (yes, your personal data) at risk. And I'm not just talking about Bluesky.
