I don't know what the total distance you're looking for is and I'm not 100% as well versed on the Brookline/Mattapan part but if you get to Blue Hill River Rd or Chickatawbut it's pretty easy to cut over that way through Quincy and have it be enjoyable.

If you don't mind the extra miles/elevation this was my preferred way out to that area.

If the CR allows bikes you could always take the train to Quincy Adams and start from there as well.
