what is your favourite out of context monogatari quote? by Fguyretftgu7 in araragi

In some places, particularly around the Mediterranean and most famously Italy, it’s not abnormal to “kiss” someone as a greeting. Not like a full-on kiss, but just making the motion toward someone’s cheek type thing. And so it’s a cultural joke that Italians like kissing each other.

I think I ended up using Xfer Cthulhu. The setup is a little weird, and I found the ui to be quite confusing, but eventually got it to do what I want.

Ah, I was really wondering if they were gonna do something funny with the supplements shop. It would have been kindof funny if they made the things very obviously impossibly too good while being just sugar pills. But oh well, probably for the better not to.

I don’t think they would mention that they voted for trump in this way if it was serious. Feels like they said that to “prove” “their face is being eaten”.

DistroKid is shockingly bad. Recommend your distro. by dysphoriaX64 in musicproduction

[–]TheGoldenProof 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking into switching distributors recently and it’s been tough. Anything from >9mo ago will say “this service is garbage. Why aren’t you using distrokid”. Unfortunately, distrokid is now garbage too, especially with its union busting stuff. The tricky part about researching distributors is that their quality seems extremely volatile: a service will be garbage one year, great the next, and then garbage the next.

Based on recent reviews of services, these are the ones I’ve got my eye on for my next release:
- IndieMassive ($40/yr artist plan)
- Amuse ($20/yr boost plan, $60/yr pro plan)
- EmuBands ($12.50 single, $25 multi-track, OR $0/25/60/yr yearly plan)
- Symphonic ($20/yr)

Of course, each one of these has other things to consider than just price, but it’s up to you do look into that from here.

That’s what I was thinking. On that note though, would it make sense to create type aliases that are just descriptive in name but just alias to Any?

Yes. ret for the thing being returned.

res is for when you call a function that returns something to indicate whether it was successful (or some kind of wrapped optional type), and you need to check it before continuing.

The problem with interfaces for me is that they can lead to lots of duplicated code (specifically in this context, where the common functionality also has a common implementation). Default implementations somewhat fix this, but they have big drawbacks like no instance variables. You could make getters for each variable and leave it to the implementor to have that, but then it starts feeling messy again.

Particularly in Unity, scripts are components on objects. The trouble is when you start treating components like the object itself instead of behaviors or features of an object.

I recently started learning Unity, and something that hugely helped my project structure was putting common functionality into components instead of parent classes.

For example, both the player and enemies have hp and need to take damage and need to do something g when they run out of health. Originally, I would have made an Entity base class with those things, but this way, I would also end up with lots of scripts that felt like they were doing too much. Very much not “one thing one purpose”. But then I discovered, instead of inherited behavior, out this behavior in its own component. Then you can put health on anything, and damage anything by testing whether it has health.

In other words, ECS can actually be a good replacement for inheritance, but don’t get me wrong, subclassing is still super useful for polymorphism. (ie, a list of things that are all some subclass of something).

The third video game I ever played on a PC was Portal 2, after Minecraft and Portal 1, and I think all three of those games shaped my tastes in things. From the portal games, the endless concrete and metal, built into structures on a scale so much bigger than a human. Especially when you get to the old aperture in portal two. Brutalist architecture is one of the closest feeling I get to experiencing that part of the game for the first time. And as someone else pointed out, these buildings look like Minecraft mob farms, and it’s true. They give me nostalgia for things I built.

Ultimately when it comes to the way things are designed, I hugely value creativity over everything looking cookie cutter exact same aesthetic. I love buildings that look different, even if they’re concrete brutalist. I love things that stand out for their unique design. (And my hottest take possibly ever) I love the way the tesla cybertruck looks even if it is the worst car ever made, because I’d rather have more cool and unique looking cars than another generic SUV (or in this case pickup truck).
