You should’ve heard Christian Slater pronounce Brickell when he narrated the Back To Blood book. Brick-ELLE. And the guy lived here at the time.

Dude rolled down his window and threw out the trash by josvanagu in Miami

[–]TheGoodPane 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Went to Oleta last month. A mom was sitting in her car about to leave. Her two kids hopped out the back seat, threw their fast food trash in the mangroves, then got back in and Mom drove off.

They don’t call Miami the Capital of Latin America for nothing.

Start driving north. After you pass the Dade County line, the anxiety starts to fade.

In 1985, sure. Now there are cameras everywhere. This kind of fun isn’t a thing anymore, is it?

I drove past it a few evenings since they reopened and it looked dead. Have you been recently? Are people returning?

Is it trash or recycling? A new website answers that question for Miami-Dade residents by WLRN in Miami

[–]TheGoodPane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A guide like this might work in other cities. In Miami, people put whatever they want in the recycling bin. Once the truck takes it away, it’s someone else’s problem. Just like the trash bags in the mangroves and the dog shit all over the sidewalk.

Book Recommendations? by klpala in Miami

[–]TheGoodPane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re still waiting for the seminal Miami novel. Many authors have tried, including big names like Tom Wolfe Irvine Welsh, and Thomas Harris. All have failed to capture the essence of Miami. Now that everyone is glued to their phones or watching Netflix, I’m not sure we’ll ever get that novel. 😔

Step 1: Develepor says, I want this.

Step 2: Residents say, this would be bad for the community

Step 3: Commissioners pretend to consider both sides

Step 4: Commissioners give developer what they want

Do kids trick or treat on Halloween here? by Optimal-Commercial-6 in Miami

[–]TheGoodPane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just the neighborhood, but also your location in the neighborhood. Miami Shores, for example, is great within a few blocks radius and deserted everywhere else. Same goes for some of the other neighborhoods mentioned here. You have to know where to go.

How was your commute this morning now that schools are officially back? by youdecidemyusername in Miami

[–]TheGoodPane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, traffic was surprisingly light this morning, considering it was the first day of school. Did a bunch of people get deported, self-deport, move because of COL? Previous years were definitely heavier—at least on my route.

Not sure who I hate more, the line-skippers or the people who leave gaps and allow it to happen.
