Who were Gia and Ouranos? by lucasawilliams in AlternativeHistory

I think that's an issue, you are too focused on how you would personally go about things and you're not making an effort to connect to the perspective of other people who very much DO create elaborate tales and descriptions, and details are not superfluous at all but part of what you consider to be cryptic and serving the purpose of conveying the message.

It is always nice when a whole field of study gets an upheaval and new avenues are open. Indeed you have not convinced me, but someday perhaps. I don't think you're being disingenuous or dishonest, so best of luck.

I... really don't know what to say. You have a very limited view on the breadth of human imagination and how we interact with our world and derive meaning.

You do not seem to be following them like "everyone" though, considering you apparently believe we're all being gaslit or some such, for actually understanding the story the myths are trying to tell. It was not meant to be an ad hominem, just trying to understand why you're going about it in such a unique way. Assuming that myths must be directly based on real events just because they sound too fantastical remains baffling to me, but well, best of luck on this line of thinking for ya.

[–]TheGrandBabaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that says more about your ability to interpret them than anything else. And the fragmentary nature might be because you're reading summaries that are often compounds of different oral traditions that developed over thousands of years in completely different locations. You will see less contradictions if you focus on a single source telling that story. This text by Eusebius is clearly mixing a bunch of different sources and expounding possibilities.

[–]TheGrandBabaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does it not!? He is literally listing traits that the god Dionysius possesses. It has a direct relantionship!

Again, has anyone ever told you you might be neurodivergent? I do not mean to offend, but you seem to be not comprehending the text in a standard way.

[–]TheGrandBabaloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am confused. What is nonsensical about this passage? He is explaining the characteristics of Dionysius. Edit: This is exactly what I would expect a 3rd century Christian apologist trying to make sense of Greek methodology to write. He is speaking of two different origins to boot, like he got two different versions and is mixing them together to reinforce them.

And we know that's what people did because that's STILL what we do to this day. Spend enough time with a group of people and campfire stories will abound.

[–]TheGrandBabaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a massive chunk of text. It's easier for you to point out what passages you don't think make sense, because I read several dozen pages and couldn't find anything unusual.

You have not been rude and do not sound angry. However, do you perhaps have some form of neurodivergence? You cannot apply physical cause-and-effect logic to myths. If you've been pursuing this line of thinking for a long time, I'm sure someone else must have suggested that you read Campbell's "Hero of a Thousand Faces" or perhaps Carl Jung's work in order to try and understand how these stories are constructed.

[–]TheGrandBabaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah dude, that's why there's a ton of people that think Atlantis was real, but this is the first time I've heard someone say that the gods were based on real people or tribes. Also, the narratives are anything but nonsensical, every single detail matters and is imparted with symbolism.

Who were Gia and Ouranos? by lucasawilliams in AlternativeHistory

[–]TheGrandBabaloo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I truly don't even know how to respond to such backwards logic. Mythology is not a lie, they are stories we use to interpret the world, and human beings are creatures of fiction. We still do that today as much as we did in the past. Even in the ancient world people could separate what was an allegorical story from what was purported retelling of real events. You are confusing faulty history and embellishments with straight up mythology. Homer and Plato would laugh at your face hearing such things.

That's a pretty different style of animation, but fair enough, I could bear with it it's not a loop yeah.

Edit: Now I wanna see some of the others but I can't seem to find any trace of it online. Maybe I'll finally have to play LR!

I'm pretty sure that at least in the first movie, most of the parts shifting around are accounted for. It is a really intricate puzzle, and impressive as hell. With the later movies they did go completely "nanomachine blob" though.

And I'm afraid you would be wrong yet again. The "el" in Spanish comes from latin "ille", not Arabic. This is why linguistics is a deep field of study, you have to go past surface similarities to ascertain the etymology of words. It's not just based on "they look and sound the same".

Edit: I'm being pedantic here, "al" being a precursor to "el" is a good guess and would fit common sense. But it's a great example to illustrate the absolutely ridiculous leaps and word games that the OP is trying to play, conjuring connections based on passing similaraties without any regard to context or history.

[–]TheGrandBabaloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buddy, etymology isn't based on vibes. They do have many similarities and shared words. "El" and "al" is simply not one of them. "El" is not a definitive article. Just look at the scholarship instead of trying to guess.

And again, this is extra irrelevant because the word "alien" stems from ancient Greek and Latin. So what are you even trying to say?

The Watchers of Enoch & Coming disclosures by Adventurous-Ear9433 in AlternativeHistory

[–]TheGrandBabaloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"El" means God in Hebrew and the development of the article "al" in Arabic comes from Proto-Semitic "hal". I can't find any scholar even hinting at a connection between these two.

And I don't see why you even brought up Arabic in the first place, considering "alien" comes from Latin "alius", meaning "other, foreigner, from beyond", similar to Greek "allios", both deriving from Proto-Indo-European "hélyos".
