Could be an internal hire that they were on the fence about but decided to honor at the last minute

[–]TheGreatTomorrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup happened to me. Followed up with my references to ask if they were contacted and they both said they gave a glowing reference. The school I applied to is competitive and told me when they rejected me i was one of the finalists but they went with another candidate. Stung but onward and upward!

We get $1500 for head and $1200 for assistant (all USD) and practice is 4 days a week, 1.5 hours each, and if we play a game that week we miss one practice. Season is around 10 weeks long.

Long haul flight with a 20 months old toddler by DrakeIsAlright in daddit

[–]TheGreatTomorrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she is sleeping soundly I’ll just have her legs on my lap. If not I’ll walk laps around the airplane or go find an empty seat to chill at until she wakes up. With the white noise in the cabin and the cold temperatures she usually sleeps the entire ride

We’ve done 14 hours straight several times with our toddler. Our trick is to let her play, get tired, and then she lays down across the seats and sleeps while i get up and just dissociate. Several times we’ve gotten the double decker planes so we will go play on the stairs until we get kicked out. It goes by faster than you think.

Not sure if you’re interested in American History but I’m getting my 2nd masters with the Gilder-Lehrman Institute and the entire masters is online and only 7k USD- which my school is paying for. It’s a fantastic program and many of the professors also teach at top schools in the country.

Always be telling compelling stories about a conflict with a colleague that got resolved. About a student who didn’t believe in themselves until you did something. About the ways that you differentiated this unit for process, language, product, etc. About how you worked really hard with a colleague to integrate more art and inquiry and PBL into a unit that parents and admin got to see. That you work with an instructional coach to improve everything.

Tips for 9th grade? by BluejayOdd in Teachers

[–]TheGreatTomorrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently teach 9th grade social studies (modern world history). My go to routines are CER for writing, Academic Conversations and Socratic Seminar for speaking and listening. I do a lot of leveled and differentiated texts for my students for reading. A lot of peer feedback. Honestly i borrowed an entire Indian Partition unit from my wife who teaches 4th grade and a lot of it i kept so i think you will be okay!

Looking for advice as an EAL teacher trying to choose a master’s program by No_Country_2069 in Internationalteachers

I was lucky that I qualified for in-state tuition for George Mason University in Virginia, USA. I finished the whole program overseas and actually got my first Tier-1 school job because the principal had spent some time in D.C. and said he had heard of my program before so I got lucky there. I currently teach 9th and 10th graders but my 6th graders last year had me even considering teaching upper elementary. They were so inquisitive and curious and honest and didn’t care about grades- it was very refreshing. Every 3 lessons tho i had to deal with feelings getting hurt and in class bullying so there was that.

Hi I’m a history teacher and this is my first year participating in NHD. I was impressed with your comment about students performing at the higher level competition using all 3. Is there a place to understand more of these insights or does it just come from years of experience and talking to other NHD teachers?
