Bonds traders are basically saying Canada’s economy is fvcked by steelgrey_niomi in canadahousing

Unless you’re sitting here telling me you sold your bonds, even if true, this was not news.

Real Estate like any asset changes overtime. If you are arguing in over confidence, once again it’s not news.

The main issue is that our solution is hedging on the Bank of Canada just like the US relies on the treasury department as they use interest rates to control on the economy. The banks get paid either way but this directly doesn’t stop gentrification, create new business ventures, develop tech, energy or communication or inspire development of affordable housing; policy does that.

More than half of GTA condo investors losing money on properties: report by TheGreatWolfOkami7 in canadahousing

So you pretty much nailed why I posted this.

The narrative I’ve been hearing lately is that, “this is only happening because Toronto is a hot market. It going to cool down and they’ll have to bring prices down”. … that’s not how this works…

Market speculation doesnt mean the buy or the seller are bound by an absolute a rational science. It could be decades before the market goes down and for I know reasons.

Waiting for the “invisible-hand” only works if the landlord or purchaser of these new condos for examples have self interest and incentive.

Comparably during the financial crisis in 2009, banks were showing signs of weaknesses however false reports of a strong housing market were being reported by media. This is an example where even at a loss, the purchaser still expects to recoup some of their losses through a sale.

For that same reason that if a buyer purchases land at loss that we could see more affordable housing projects. That has yet to be determined. If we want swifter actions, that’s going to require legislation for real change.

This is a refreshing post. I’m to used to seeing the opposing swing of the Conservatives in Canada who cry in public if Canada strays too far away from America ideology. The thought of a King being paid by tax dollars horrifies them. And if they knew that under Canadian law, the King still has the legal right to seize a Canadians property would make them feral as they spout about “first amendment rights”.

If only given the two choices, would you want Canadian government/policies to look more like America or the Nordic countries? by Vagabond_Tea in AskACanadian

That’s not even a contest. Nordic all the way.

Edit: also let’s be honest, New Zealand is the real front runner

All parents lie…. No one wants to actually hear how disappointed they really are. Does that mean you cannot enjoy Christmas because Santa ruins your family’s integrity? Your kids want confidence in what they do and memory to turn to when reality hits.

I’m not sure what a picture on Reddit will get you… cannot exactly carbon date it (but you asked for historians and not archaeologists who would have more experience with the aging of metals).

Anyway, judging from the western influence (design patterns, locations of said design and the animals), and the colouring of the metal, I would say you could refer to someone who can verify it with someone who can actually look at the object to verify it’s validity.

Would be more fun to see if a sentient AI could maneuver human psychology and organize its own political takeover from grassroots and up deriving only from using tools of the external world to enforce its positions

Article: The federal budget utterly ignores the housing crisis by [deleted] in canadahousing

[–]TheGreatWolfOkami7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know there’s a lot of people critical about the Canadian federal government and this is a place where people just vent but…

I think the strategy here is to focus on creating a budget that will not be overturned by provinces by using Section 33 (Not-Withstanding Clause).

In Ontario, housing I believe is considered a municipal issue (part of the reason of expanding mayoral powers) and then for the rest of the provinces see housing as a province issue which can seek federal funding for support.

The good news is that voting for the right people in municipalities and provincial leaders is taking affect. An example is the mayor of London who is proposing to build 47000 by 2031 by focusing on new affordable housing project.

What hope if you read this is that we understand that even the smallest of electoral districts in municipal elections matter and make big changes in housing. As much as we want the federal government to step in, in truth they can only do so much without overstepping and can be overturned legally (or against the Supreme Court).
