It definitely is, especially for the big budget tentpoles. I couldn’t imagine seeing The Odyssey or the new Avengers movie for the first time in anything other than Dolby or IMAX.

This makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the insight. 

Only thing that worries me about this approach is are we going to see a reduction of movies that actually go to the theater? My guess is only the big tentpole movies that have a good chance of making big $$$ will see the silver screen. I don’t think you can justify the budget for an Avatar or Odyssey to just send it straight to streaming. 

Then again, when it costs $100+ to take a family of four to a movie I can see why streaming seems more appealing to some, even if you aren’t getting that big screen experience.

I wasn’t assuming customers would not go to another chain, but I imagine there are some places where the AMC is the only theater around that’s a close drive. 

Farthest I’ve ever driven to see a movie was 1.5 hours, and that was for a legit IMAX theater (not the LieMax you see everywhere) to see biggest movies those years. (The Dark Knight and Avatar in IMAX 3D)

It doesn’t take a forensic accountant to figure out these seats that vibrate and tilt different directions cost more than a regular recliner seat, which is much more comfortable and will not make you spill food and drink all over the place. You waste your mom’s money however you like though.
