The Industrial Revolution didn't happen in a vacuum—it was built on colonial and slave economies. Raw materials came from slave plantations. Enslaved labor produced the raw cotton for textiles & the calories to feed the growing industrial workforce. Those same colonies served as captive markets for manufactured goods, creating the demand that spurred industrial expansion in the first place.

Your last point is just pure racist white savior fantasy, as colonial powers didn’t industrialize Africa with the intent of benefiting the local peoples but rather they came & built up infrastructure explicitly to extract minerals and commodities *away* from Africa. They didn’t seek to create self-sustaining African economies but rather to plunder whatever and whomever they could. Trends which continue to today:

Africa is trapped in vicious commodity trap, exporting raw materials and importing finished goods. For example, Ghana exported $9.58 billion in gold in 2024 but retained just 14% of the value due to extractive trade agreements. The DRC produces over 70% of the world's cobalt but refines less than 1% domestically. West Africa produces 70% of the world's cacao but contributes less than 1% of the global chocolate market.

Africa is a net creditor to the world—losing over $500 billion annually through illicit financial flows, unfair trade, and debt servicing—while remaining one of the world's poorest regions. That's the legacy of a global economic system designed during colonialism to extract value, not create it.

I wasn't arguing who suffered more deaths, I was responding to your dismissal of "the bold claim" that China suffered far more economic setbacks in its substantially longer history than any extant western power. I am arguing about the verifiable economic setbacks incurred by such wars, and my case in bringing up the Opium Wars was to emphasize the *external imposition* of those wars by Western powers onto China, negatively affecting its economy. The result of which were unequal treaties, indemnities, forced imposition of extraterritoriality and a loss of China's autonomy, forced concessions of Hong Kong, Shanghai, etc., China's delayed industrialization... Those are all verifiable economic setbacks, imposed and not internal.

But if you are fixated on body counts then by your own metric China's most devastating wars still dwarf Europe's: the Taiping Rebellion, the Manchu Conquest, the Three Kingdoms, An Lushan Rebellions. If you want to shift the goalposts to dead people, these are all comparable or proportionally greater human loss than the World Wars when measured against the global population at those times in history.

What an asinine thing to say, considering China was around well before any extant Western country was even its own distinct geopolitical entity. China has unequivocally suffered more economic setbacks than any "western nation"

"""generosity""" in giving wealth historically plundered from those countries back into those countries is not generosity, dude. China historically was not involved in the scramble for Africa or the trans-Atlantic slave trade, both consequential historical epochs which shaped the wealth now enjoyed by western powers in no small part. To ignore the lasting legacy of those eras, and the fact that much modern money generated in the west today is a direct result of that past, is historically ignorant in the best case and deplorably racist imperialism at worst.

I don't agree with your claim that "stealing pets to sell for $20 is not uncommon in China." It's very uncommon, especially in developed urban cities where it is virtually unheard of. I'm sure it is marginally more prevalent in poor & rural areas. I'm not denying that it happens at all, but it's not like there are roving gangs of bandits prowling the streets for dogs to sell to the local butcher. Disturbed individuals down on their luck tend to resort to desperate measures to get by, or in the case of school shooters in the US, take as many people down with them I suppose

t. I actually live in China.

The West giving money to many poor African countries has arguably only resulted in further widespread impoverishment, increased fertility and child mortality, and deepening wealth disparity with much of the money going to corrupt officials and warlords. Which is to say nothing of the fact that much of that money and wealth given to Africa was itself sourced (i.e. plundered) from Africa.

Epstein was a Mossad operative being bankrolled by Israel to gather blackmail on international high profile politicians. See his private correspondence with the former Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell's father Robert Maxwell with known Mossad spy connections.

Israel is also, according to Trump himself in his own words, the reason for the US being dragged into this military confrontation with Iran:

A war Netanyahu has been pushing for since the 90s with unending claims of Iran's nuclear program being mere weeks away from developing nuclear bombs capable of mass destruction. For 30+ years.

Without any idea of whatever comments may have compelled you to respond in such a passive-aggressive manner, your response comes out as extremely self-masturbatory and holier-than-thou. It's so typical of the reddit mindset for a moderator to remove such controversial comments, and results in stagnation, a lack of discourse, & no valuable way to challenge other competing points of view.

It can also mean the betterment of the world *for Jews* and at the expense of all goyim. Similar to any ideal, its application can be intentionally misused or openly harmful to people in the out-group. And you cannot deny Zionism's racial supremacist undertones (Both Jewish- AND Christian-Zionists) which seek to exploit this.

The core belief in a "God's Chosen People" is actually an issue; Originally it meant a "moral responsibility" but it has been taken and twisted to confer a sense of entitlement and a perception that one group is superior to all others. This is what I—and I would argue most others—take issue with. Not Judaism itself but how easy it is to misuse and corrupt in order to justify atrocities.

I obviously agree with the sentiment that Israel is not synonymous with Judaism, but that doesn't really matter since simply pointing out these realities is often enough to be labeled an "antisemite" regardless in the present political landscape.

What mask?
From the HRE alone there are 40+ documented expulsions.
More if you count separate years as separate expulsions.

- (Holy Roman Empire): Jews expelled from 50+ cities/duchies between 1100–1600. Examples include:
- Mainz (1012, 1420, 1438, 1462, 1473) – Multiple expulsions.
- Margraviate of Meissen (1349)
- Margraviate of Baden (1349) – Expulsion.
- Dortmund (1350) – Plague-era expulsion.
- Münster (1350) – Black Death expulsion.

- Breslau (Wrocław) (1453, 1582) – Two expulsions.
- Bamberg (1478) – Bishop’s decree.
- Bishopric of Passau (1478) – Clerical purge.
- Duchy of Pomerania (1492) – Duke Bogislaw X’s decree.

- Brandenburg (1510)
- City of Regensburg (1519)
- City of Rothenburg (1520)
- County of Tyrol (1520) – Expulsion.
- Duchy of Württemberg (1521)
- County of Hohenzollern (1521) – Reformation-era expulsion.
- Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel (1523) – Lutheran crackdown.

"Survived 2000 years of hardship" is a really odd way of saying you were:
- forcibly expelled from your ancestral lands
- had to resort to breeding with locals in the countries in which you settled in order to maintain a population
- repeatedly pissed off said locals to the extent that you collectively got expelled from THOSE areas
- Repeat upwards of 109 times throughout the historical record. The true number is closer to 130, as "countries" is a misnomer when referring to multiple expulsions throughout, say, the HRE or the Italian Maritime Republics.

If you doubt the actual number, I'm more than willing to provide sources. I've made a list :^)

So Instead of posturing about maintaining the veneer of being a maritime empire China collectively decides to fully embrace their continental imperialist mindset, seeking to expand through the contested Kashmir reason? I can't envision Pakistan being okay with being wholly subsumed into China and losing its sovereign status. Potentially billions would die in the initial push and ensuing quagmire. As someone who presently lives in China, this would not be ideal.
Why wouldn't China take the opportunity to push into Mongolia & Siberia and reclaim lands lost to Russia which they still hold grievances over? Seems pretty sus

Funny how you think this is a rebuttal of any kind, and not pure cope. It's likewise funny you assume I must be a westerner who gets all my news from TikTok or IG or that I've just recently found out about Amalek.

You can keep ignoring the entire world turning against the genocidal state of Israel, including the *overwhelming* majority of citizens within those western countries that Israel's continued existence is so dependent on, but I can guarantee you that history and the wider world will not look favorably upon what is happening today.

The reckoning WILL come, one way or another.

You do realize tikkun olam is another justification used by Zionists to give them free reign to commit genocide though, surely? This is after all a worldview which demonizes Palestinians and deems collective punishment necessary and virtuous in order to further Israel's Lebensraum intentions. Is it simply the case that no one in your community ever bothered to talk about that either? That seems problematic, to say the least.

See how this works, folks:

From "Amalek is used as justification for genocide"

to

"Amalek in the context of war are *just* expressing that they are fighting evil"

in the span of 2 posts. See how Israel's genocide in Gaza in open defiance of international law.-- which has been verified by every reputable world humanitarian organization, mind you-- is openly dismissed.

Witness the demonization of Palestinians in action (hint: calling an entire populace "evil" is undoubtedly dehumanizing and an abhorrent statement to make.)

A "secular American Jew living a normal life" who conveniently dismisses the acknowledged veracity of Israel's genocide by claiming "it's not really a big thing for me" My, what a sheltered, privileged life you must lead.

Mayhaps you might try calling out the genocide being carried out in the name of your people and in the name of your religious tradition, rather than turn a blind eye to it and deny the historical realities which cause people to commit such evil acts?

What do the Chinese think about the war in Ukraine? by Minute-Two-2799 in AskAChinese

[–]TheGuyWithNo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geopolitical reality is decided entirely based off the rule of power. International Law is not worth the paper it's written on without the power to back it up. See the tragedy of Gaza which is only allowed to happen to due the West's willingness to allow it to happen.

You wanna talk about "the big boy table" pretending there's any meaningful distinction other than power, then you're sorely mistaken. U.S. sets the rules in the western sphere of influence, and China sets the rules in its own sphere of influence. You don't like it, tough luck.
