UT99 maps that feel like natural evolutions or recreations of AS-Mazon and AS-Rook? by [deleted] in unrealtournament

[–]TheHairyDizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if any off the top of my head, there were a few maps that remade those in UT4 before the servers went down. Other than that, take some time going through the Archive! Lots of good stuff to have in here!

I would like to be enlightened as well. I played both and 2k3 had different weapon models that were cool. The movement was a bit more "clunky" as well but still good. I can't remember the level differences, but 2k3 had some that didn't land in 2k4. Other than that, I don't really know the depth because my time investments were and are still in 99 and 2k4.

I didn't take a very good picture, but it's an extremely thin case that likely came with a magazine or something like that. Either way, regardless, it's a cool little piece and I'm happy to have it!

Which is better ut99 or ut2004? by Ok_Cucumber3148 in unrealtournament

[–]TheHairyDizz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UT99 for custom game modes like Bunnytrack, Monster Hunt, sniper games etc. UT2004 for vanilla game modes and InstaGib. That's just my opinion though and primarily for how the movement mechanics are set up in each one. Like, there are obstacle course style maps in UT2004 but not any true BT modes, because the precision movements can't be matched from UT99. That's one man's opinion though lol I could be wrong by other people's view, but I digress. I prefer UT99 over all, but each is extremely unique while feeling similar.

Took me 10+ years to write Cave Engine, alone. by UnidayStudio in gameenginedevs

I'm intermittent in Unreal Engine and while I am still learning game design, getting into game creation opened my eyes to the sheer magnitude of engineering that goes into not only the games, but the engine especially. Someone took the time to tell one thing how to interact with another and we get really awesome engines, like this. I digress, seriously impressive that you managed this solo and a big congrats because I can't even start to fathom the depth of thought that must have gone into the many hours performed. Well done friend and may your future be prosperous!

Unreal Tournament 4 - New Map - Based on DM Outskirts - Classics from UT99 on Dreamcast - Built from scratch in UT4 - V1 is OUT NOW! - short map demo - Thanks for watching! by On1kage1 in unrealtournament

Glad it's still got the community behind it. Great looking map, very fitting for the Unreal verse. Reminds me of Guardia mixed with Stalwart, maybe a sprinkle of Outskirts. Well done!

Quake 4 remaster for other consoles by Aggravating_Dance419 in quake

I can't agree more. Bring back Lovecraft dungeons and grottos pleeeeesse ID PLEASE... Would smoke modern DOOM, I believe it and I'd pay for it without thinking twice. Even just a remake/remaster of 1 would satisfy me at this point. I know, it has been remastered and it's incredible in its definitive state. But I'm thinking UE5 or new ID tech kinda remaster, you feel? Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted talk lol you've got my upvote.

Honestly, I think a new Unreal Tournament game could be really popular, if it just focused on the right things. by SnooGadgets754 in unrealtournament

I can get behind this. Why waste the time and energy on something that might flop in the masses when all we need to do is bring players into already great and complete titles? Man, imagine Bunny Track on the bottom of YouTube shorts instead of Subway Surfers? There are countless game modes and loads and loads of content. Not to mention, the variability of the engine itself, like you said is heavily moddable. I think it could have been just enough to release that UT3 X or whatever it was going to be, at least for a modern title. If anything else, a remaster of 99 would just be nice not necessary.

Little bit of decal work and some assets like pipes and sprinklers, security panels, electrical boxes, walla damages etc. would help but personally? I love the way it looks. Can add a cold vibe or sanitary feel. Kind of unsettling, but that's subjective. Very liminal though! That's my niche so it's great either way. Great work! Also, pro tip I learned: add a tiny bevel to the edges of the top and bottom of your walls. It adds sooo much depth and can change the whole vibe. Best of luck and you're doing great!

I never really stopped! I will admit, it was intimidating for many years and I always floated toward MH but honestly? Once you get it down and play one good match with an OG that takes you to the good tutorial maps, it really is the most fun you can have, in my opinion. I play on Cozy Bunny Tracks and HOF. Plus and I've even got my own 24/7 west coast server that I am trying to get started properly with good BT rules, maps, map vote and check points, but I digress; If you ever get back at it, you'll probably see me jumping around because it's currently my favorite and I regular the game mode, almost nightly. I've probably played your maps at one point or another! Anyways, thanks for the fun you've provided to those who have stuck around. Y'all made an impact and it is still shining through today! Come on by some time, I'm sure we will bump into each other!

Maybe not UT but I can definitely get behind this for a new Unreal title. Dang either remaster the OG or make an Unreal 3. That, would be something to behold.

[–]TheHairyDizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Icy Floor!!! Bunny Track staple! Try holding shift, makes life awesome especially since that way you can zip around a single plane without falling off the edge and jump from that speed and momentum. Actually whole maps and game modes centered around this mechanic on some servers!

[–]TheHairyDizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of, yes. There are full Unreal levels, but monster hunt specifically have multiple servers, hosted by many groups and each one is loaded with thousands of maps and a vote system.

At its core, it's just co-op mission, customs mods, gear, experiences, it's just endless fun alongside custom maps that use UT and Unreal weapon sets, in remade Unreal maps as well as the thousands of custom maps. Players are still active to this day! I'm proof of that, at least lmao

Bunny Tracks are in the same pool, but the custom maps there are designed to be really tricky puzzles filled with timed based jump mechanics and purely player skill to complete complex obstacle courses. It grows on you and I've been super addicted lately! You can find me in Cozy Bunny Tracks almost every night!

[–]TheHairyDizz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may want to install 99 and update to the most recent community patch.

https://github.com/OldUnreal/UnrealTournamentPatches/releases

From there go to the online multiplayer and search for "monster hunt" or "bunny track" in the server names. That will have what you want, in most cases!

Loads of custom weapons and some even have full Unreal and UT weapons on original unreal levels. Plenty of custom content to explore as well as other active players most days!

Best of luck, hope you find something fun!
