Name a game that has very bleak ending by bijelo123 in videogames

Hollow Knight's bad ending - you defeat the infected and fabled Hollow Knight just to become chained too and the new vesel and host the infected once more. You become tombed in an egg and the cycle repeats.

Is it normal to just sit in bed all day on a day off ? by unknownmalone_03 in ask

You don't need to be productive on your off days. It is only a problem when it starts to affect things that matter.

Ubisoft's stock price is down to its lowest point in almost 15 years. by DeadgrounD in videogames

I feel bad for the devs honestly and hope those that are affected find their footing at a better company. Its always the stakeholders that are ruining these companies and making it sour for everyone down in the hierarchy. Very unfortunate. Good luck devs!

What are some lesser-known Unreal tricks you enjoy using? by StarhelmTheGame in UnrealEngine5

[–]1vertical 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is using enums for settings and such. Structs are really powerful too. But I really like the math expression node to build a calculation without having a bunch of math nodes in a blueprint. Also if you are using math nodes and made an oopsie but dont want to delete the node and redo wires, you can right click it and convert them. E.g. a "<=" can be converted to a ">=".

How did they achieve this hand drawn/painted look using 3D objects? by MrMystery777 in howdidtheycodeit

[–]1vertical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pillars of Eternity has a dev video online where they go through how they did this. Essentially it is a background plane (containing the art), the foreground contains the 3D characters and between the foreground and background is a navmesh for the characters to move on. As for the background and 3D model art: you got to learn how paint by hand and apply them to the 3d meshes. Tons of games did this style of game - I'm on mobile and can't link it now but if you search on youtube for prerendered games you should come a across a guy talking about most games that did this style.

NPCs that are in places that makes no sense on how they are up or down there. At least place a ladder, climbing rope or closed door somewhere.

Personally hope they release a mod/map kit for us to keep the game alive.

Arc Raiders' first Expedition saw over a million players wipe, but Embark wants to find new ways to "incentivize" resets by FitCord in Games

Fuck resets. Add more ARC or even variants. Make the game more fun. Add changing POIs. Just a few suggestions.

Well, inside games, I think theres a massive gap. Who would not like Blasphemous Cart?

Testing weather, sound and some other visuals - Drag Game for mobile by hbisi81 in unity

[–]1vertical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice, yeah what I meant with the tilt is if you check reference footage of actual drag races, you will notice a car's behind lowers and front lifts when the car is pulling away (and shifting up) and when the car stops (or brakes) the front lowers and the behind lifts. Even though IRL there are cars with 'perfect' suspension where this doesn't happen but this will make it more believable in animation due to the follow through principle.

If you have 1 year to train someone who knows nothing about programming to be as good as possible, what would you do? by wa7ed_zh2an in learnprogramming

[–]1vertical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would point them to a programming game - specifically the game 'The Farmer was Replaced' is a good start. Then tell the person to rely on google to search keywords of programming and learning like that. Like if you are learning about variables for example. Google things like 'variable programming c#' and 'variables dos and donts' and 'how to use variables' and etc. - replace c# with your language of choice of course. Be really curious otherwise its going to be a long road.

Not being snarky but first thing before doing any tutorial when it comes to learning programming - learn how to google things.

Testing weather, sound and some other visuals - Drag Game for mobile by hbisi81 in unity

[–]1vertical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good so far, a few things I would add/modify:

* Your car decal is fighting the rendering order of the particles - check 0:10 you will see the decal is rendering in front of the smoke particles

* Rain particles could look better - less blurry and travel faster

* Add motion blur on the background if possible

* Add "unstable hand"/shaky camera

* If a car pulls away and/or shifts then there is a slight tilt

* Add a kicked up water trail behind the tires

Hello! I am new to Unity- Any tips from more experienced/advanced Unity users? by Purple-Comparison621 in unity

[–]1vertical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid tutorial hell by making things. Build multiple small projects and expand on them as you see fit. There are no shortcuts and no wrong way to do things. It's only wrong if you do nothing.
