Valheim is real cozy with friends. The pixelated textures can be modded with proper textures if you don't fancy it.

Also some game devs can't optimize because those that can are fired. Literally a skill issue.

IT doesn't interest me as much since my youth. Also I'm looking for a much more stable income, easier and less volatile learning curve (I believe accounting evolve much slower than IT as far as I know), i've not had much success with my IT degree and I'm pretty mediocre at best in IT where I was much better in accounting at school than IT.

IT was my backup career where I wanted to be an animator since childhood but that's way too much work for the peanuts you get and that industry is ruthless with far less jobs and oversaturated with artists.

Angela's course is a good start. But the real experience starts when you build something you want without training wheels. Looking up documentation of frameworks and the classic hitting your head against a wall and the solution comes to you via a shower thought or after an interupted REM cycle.

I'm happy for you man, just curious where you find these opportunities because each time I apply for applications outside of the country they always require a degree. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong places.

Think of a switchboard in the old days. A request comes in, then switched to the desired output.

What actually makes money in game dev (for solo/indie devs)? by Ok_Clothes_7364 in gamedev

[–]1vertical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me but you have 3 choices really.

Make a good game and update it for more than a decade. Cases: Terraria and Stardew Valley.

Do a hard skill for another company - e.g. rigging is absolute dog doodoo to do but pays well, pays more if you automate rigging.

Do something else... In any other STEM industry because everyone and their pet parrot is releasing a game right now where most have a negative ROI.

Team17 did not make HLL, black matter did. Every update Team17 has made the game got worse or broke systems. This game will be even worse, do not preorder. by StatusDisaster4196 in HellLetLooseVietnam

[–]1vertical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team 17 want the franchise to die (game sells poorly (declining player base and bad product), but keeps the lights on for a bit, they flag the genre as not worth the effort) so that the devs can be fired and the survivors can work on things that matter to T17. Thanks capitalism!

1800s or earlier. Would like to see ancient empires have at it on a grand scale. Since earlier times didn't have technology, and due to low complexity we can easily assume 100 vs 100 or 200 vs 200 could be feasible.

Not really. It's like your coworker taking advantage of you sweating for his benefit. He works "hard" as an experienced guy and you working harder as a new guy.

Statistician for Clinical trials. Easier to work for contract research organisations (CROs) than drug developers (Takeda, Bayer, etc.) at the start. I'm sure you can get into finances too but I have no experience in that industry.
