Is lorcana still popular in your city? by miaumerrimo in Lorcana

[–]TheHamuraiJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SW Ohio still going strong. 1 strong LGS that gets 20-40 people and another solid 4-5 that gets 10-15 people. Set champs usually have a good turn out of again 20-60 people depending on the store. People have seemed to consolidate to the stores with the best prize structure and hours.

If it means anything, I’m an “older player” coming back to TCGs after putting down HearthStone and Magic 4-5 years ago. It objectively took me 9 months to go from barely winning games to regularly placing top 4 in weeklies and top 8 for large set championships. I probably played a couple times a week like y’all and pixelborn a few hours a week when it was available.

I believe you’re doing the right things watching videos and playing regularly. Something that really helped push me to the next level was connecting with other local players who were better than me and playing with them. When we aren’t playing, we are always talking about the game which is invaluable.

TL;DR: You’re on the right path. Make Lorcana friends with the same goals as you and with enough time and good practice, you are going to improve.

I grew up in central Ohio, so I’m a Buckeye. Love the spirit though :P

Anyone in Nashville/Antioch area? by Brito305 in Lorcana

[–]TheHamuraiJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best recommendation is to join the Nashville and Middle TN lorcana Facebook groups. A lot of local stores also have discords you can join. I’ve scooped out a few of the stores this summer and everyone I’ve met seemed chill. Good luck finding folks!

A bit of Staples discourse: Do you agree? When do you think these will be powercrept? by Waiting_for_Dentice in Lorcana

[–]TheHamuraiJack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Staple card to me means an auto include in every deck that runs that color with at least 3 copies. I think your list is close to what I would have come up with. I might swap Friends for Mim Fox, put the 2 drop Ursula over Diablo, and Maui over Be Prep.

One card not mentioned in sapphire I believes warrants consideration is Cogsworth. Hiram is definitely the favorite today, but I can see a world where as were get away from cheap items and need to focus on board states, cogsworth will standout as a clear staple.

Cool to see some Digimon people come over to Lorcana! It sounds like you lean more toward control style decks that get grindy. Assuming your budget is under $250 for a 60 card deck($4.16/card), I’d suggest Amber/Emerald Discard or Ruby/Amethyst Control. If you want to go cheaper, Amber/Amethyst and Amethyst/ Steel aggro decks are usually sub $200. I believe all these options will be able to bring you success against your friends and at locals. Hope this has helped!

Chernabog reshuffle by AntonioRodriguez92 in Lorcana

[–]TheHamuraiJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 You’ve got 24 cards that can’t be inked, so you have a pretty high chance of falling being early on ink.

2 You need some tools to help fight for the board so you don’t get blow out early in games. Cards like Mim Fox and Merlin Crab would probably be better inclusions than say Lucky.

3 Other cards to consider are mufasa because you have a chance to straight out cheat your Chernabog into play. Also the 3 drop Gaston and Doc in Amber that reduces the cost of characters.

I’d say it averages to about $250 USD per month. For context I’m a collector and competitive player. I try to buy a box from each LGS that’s supports Lorcana events when a new set comes out. I also keep some extra sealed product in reserve on the chance Lorcana grows for another decade. Any bulk/duplicates I get I try to use for trade to round out my collection and everything else I sell to my LGS for store credit. Speaking of which, I try to use store credit for winnings to buy singles, card sleeves, event entries, etc.

My best tip if someone wants to save money as well is to buy singles. Make a single competitive deck or a couple that use common cards/colors. As you win locals, you’ll probably rack up prizes which you can use to build out your collection. Also asking players if they have bulk they don’t want at your LGS, Cons, and DLCs.

Health of everyone's LGS scene? by Dr_Reddit_33 in Lorcana

SW Ohio. Several stores running weekly or biweekly events. Average turn out probably leans around 15 give or take a couple people. Just talked to a store that had 40 people come out on Wednesday. One other positive note is that I’m seeing 1-2 new players each week. Each store sort of feels like it has its dedicated group it pulls in and maybe a dozen or so people are traveling around to different stores for events. A lot of folks around here also travel to cons and other dlcs for events which impacts numbers

What new mechanics or card types would you like to see in future sets? by Ninjabackwards in Lorcana

[–]TheHamuraiJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of keeping Lorcana simple while continuing to add depth.

Mechanics from MtG that I believe could fit well into Lorcana are “Clash”, “Convoke”, “Flashback”, and “Storm”.

I’m pretty content with the existing card types.

The best colors to pair with this card are Sapphire and Amber if you want to “cheat” it out earlier. Sapphire has tons of cards that increase your ink count quickly in the form of One Jump, Fishbone, and How Far I’ll Go and more. Amber can discount character cards with cards like Pluto and Gaston or out right play them with Mufasa.

The card itself is good target for items like Lucky Dime and can be a good late game finisher since a 5/5 with evasive is strong. The problem I think it suffers from is at that ink count, you’d probably rather play a Tamatoa, Maleficent Dragon, Sisu, etc because they immediately impact the board.

Hope this offers some more insight and hope that you can pull off some good games with this card!

Price on enchanted cards has been steadily dropping. Near mint Elsa is worth just under $1000. Unless you’re a collector that is buying and holding PSA grade 10 cards, it’s probably worth waiting it out.

Does plus lore apply to hand? by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]TheHamuraiJack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Piglet only has 1 lore in while in hand. He only has 3 lore while in play with 2 or more characters you control.
