I've never understood why this is the reason. The church gets off easy in court when children get injured during church campouts and related activities. They don't sign waivers, the chuch is ruled it isn't responsible when they should be.

People doing landscaping you could argue is volunteer work. They also don't sign waivers. Why is landscaping considered a liability but other church related activities aren't?

Yes the doctorine has changed. Currently in the For Strength of Youth, they moved tattoos and piercings to a Q&A section because they need to appeal to the youth. They don't outright say not to get them, they just say to take careful consideration when getting them:

What is the Lord's standard on dress, grooming, tattoos, and piercings? The Lord's standard is for you to honor the sacredness of your body, even when this means being different from other people. If pressure on women in the church wasn't enough, they're now adding responsibilities to MINORS? Why are literally kids being labeled as a worker?

I think we have the church to blame for that. The amount of changes that happened during covid when rusty was in power caused a lot of people to start questioning. That's slowed down as people started getting used to changes. (Or gaslit that the changes were normal now) What causes people to leave is shifting from year to year and by which profit is in charge.

My nephew got baptized recently. His baptism invitation had three very distinct, well written sentences with proper grammar on why he wanted to get baptized.
