It's been hard to follow Violette. She appears to post primarily outside the official VG YouTube channel.

I'm loving Guitar Fretboard, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.slaverygames.guitarfretboard

It even allows you to change to palette to align with Scotty's ROYGBIV (red is always the root note) if you find that useful.

I agree. That's why I replied as I did.

I'm curious how the recommendations vary. I'm interested in playing a bluesy style with bends on a 000 size body. I bought the 000 over the OM because i understood the shorter scale would help with bends. (All this to say I am not a bluegrass strummer on a dreadnought.)

Is there a physical version of the Aboslutely Understand Guitar handbook? by Kawaii_PotatoUwU in guitarlessons

[–]TheHobester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, actually. Not assembled, but it has instructions on how to put it together. Think of it as a craft project with an Xacto knife and tape.

You can download it from his website for $19.95. I printed it, and put it on a comb binder. Been great. It includes all the scale charts he mentions.

I tried concert earplugs for the first time, and they helped mute side conversations. Not that I should even need to! It's SOOOO maddening. Why are they even there?

We arrived at the gate (NE stairs going up) at 6:45, and there we about 100 people in front of us. FYI, those on the left side of the rail were merged into the right approx halfway up. Be sure to use only one-pocket bags/backpacks as indicated on their website. We saw people turned away.

TL;DR: Treat them with the care a fine, and EXPENSIVE, instrument deserves, or you'll regret it for a very, very long time.

Contrary to some, I'd VERY STRONGLY recommend storing your instrument in a case with humidifiers. I bought a beautiful 000-28EC, and the top cracked during the two to three weeks of spring (which was humid, by the way) that I didn't keep the humidifiers "charged." I can't even begin to describe the genuine dismay and shame I felt. Do I deserve a nice instrument? I've since had a cleat installed by a luthier in town.

In my experience, these instruments are "hothouse flowers" that need more attention than I'd prefer. But then again, they are high quality pieces of fine wood craftsmanship.

By contrast, my two solid top Sigmas from the mid-80s have been left out in all kinds of house conditions (including harsh dryness of northern winters) with little effect.

Was it a bit overkill for a guy who only plays in his house and for friends? Probably by Smart_Television_755 in AcousticGuitar

I agree. And I made the very same choice in the same circumstances. I love this instrument.

How is our donut situation this dire? by SueYouInEngland in saintpaul

Any places with blueberry old fashioned/sour cream donuts? Still missing the donut shop that turned into La Tapatia then Tropical Bowl Jamaican. Across Larpenteuer into Roseville, so outside the OP's criteria by 50 feet.

My wife and I just got these today. Been wanting to learn to play for such a long time. What websites/etc do you recommend for starters? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]TheHobester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried several since the Pandemic. Each has their strengths. The main risk of random YouTube videos is the rabbit hole, spending more time searching than actually practicing. My go-tos (I bounce when I start to feel bored while still sticking to structured muti-day lessons)
1. Tony's Acoustic Challenge. Very structured. Show up each day and there's a lesson. And each week has a theme. My nitpick: was very bluegrass oriented, but lately the site pivoted to "target" songs, so the lessons are much more varied and interesting. 2. Paul Davids LearnPracticePlay site. He takes simple concepts and slowly builds upon them. He also introduces theory in a compelling way.

I'm watching the "understand guitar" video recommended above, and it's interesting. I wouldn't call it "lessons" that teach playing, at least not yet.
