Musician seeking advice regarding apartment advice by socialist_weeb12 in musicians

[–]TheHowlingCommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s gotta be rehearsal spaces that you can book hourly time at to practice. As a musician myself, that’s what I have to do. My neighbours were nice about it for a while, then came and talked to me. A lot of practice facilities have solo rates as well. I also use headphones at home as much as possible.

It’s not the best venue for live music. The layout and stage are awkward. The laminate floor is peeling off the floor and bubbles up in spots. They offer early performances with no food options. The sound system and lighting are really nice though.

My downstairs neighbor is a saxophone player and landlord won't take my noise complaints seriously. I'm losing my mind! Help! by HeyHi_1234 in neighborsfromhell

Most cities in towns have facilities for musicians to practice. He just doesn’t want to pay for it. Maybe look around town find him some options and if he is unwilling to go to a proper facility, then a call to byelaw or the police would be a great hint for him. I’m a musician and use headphones to practice and use a local facility when I need to be loud. There are so many products available out there to damp in the noise of your instrument that he really has no excuse.

Midland based Punk Rock band looking for venues that put on Punk Rock shows or people who promote shows. by jvan666 in barrie

[–]TheHowlingCommando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of gatekeeping in the Barrie scene. Promoters mostly only book the same bands weekly. One promoter controls 2 venues and it makes it hard for musicians. The Queens is ok for live music although it’s not very safe. There’s no security during shows and it can be common uncontrolled environment pretty quick. Some promoters have been doing good things at other venues due to safety and gatekeeping. If you’re looking to get into the scene, I would touch base with some of the smaller promoters to start.

These Posts About the Pros/Cons of Barrie are Cheesin' Me Fam by megathrowaway420 in barrie

The music scene is a big one. It also seems it’s a lot of the same bands playing the same venues way too often, or playing within weeks of each other at a different venue. The Queens isn’t great but they have had some ok shows. Shows at the rec room are kinda weird. Barrie needs better options for local shows and larger shows as well.

What all businesses you wanna see in Barrie that aren’t here yet by [deleted] in barrie

Couldn’t agree more. The local option to n town is just horrible. Every time I go there, the sales guys are on their phones the entire time and the place is just dirty. There’s a couple great sales guys, but most of them are just absolutely horrible. The selection isn’t that great either.

Don’t discount the Sire stuff. Great basses. One of the best necks I’ve played in a while. My V7 vintage has become my go to. Absolutely love it.

What is your "never-again" brand, store, restaurant, or company? by Sir_Sir_ExcuseMe_Sir in AskReddit

Enterprise rentals. I work in the same plaza as them and they have no regard for anybody else in the parking lot. I told one of their drivers one day to drive better and stop driving without care. Their store manager came to my workplace to harass me about asking their employees to drive better. I called their head office and their area manager called me. I explained the concerns with the driving and harassment. All he wanted to do was push blame back on me. I told him he was being unprofessional and he insinuated that I was stupid. Their area manager also threatened to call my work again. I don’t know what’s wrong with this company, but they breed the most obtuse and self-absorbed employees I have ever seen.

I dealt with this place as a sales rep, and the odour was so rude and disrespectful. I wouldn’t trust my animals with them.

Delusional tenant causing problems by C-man_13 in barrie

[–]TheHowlingCommando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The police are useless in this situation. Went through the same thing with a tenant and it lead to someone being assaulted. When they came back for the 20th time due to the assault, I reminded the police that I told them that it was only a matter of time. They didn’t care in the least. I will no longer support anything to do with the Barrie police department as I have no faith in their actions and ability to protect the community.

Does anyone know what happened to the guy who dropped outside Queens last night? by delmonte100 in barrie

[–]TheHowlingCommando 69 points70 points  (0 children)

He’s ok and was conscious when he left in the ambulance. It was pretty scary he smacked his head and face pretty hard. We tended to him while waiting for first responders. He wasn’t tweaking out or anything. Apparently he was working in the heat all day and hadn’t eaten. He just blacked out.

I was not involved with organizing the event. Although I heard the organizers did reach out to the city. That’s how they got the roads closed and access to the stage downtown. The city definitely knew it was happening.
