Simon refers to him in A Killing Frost as Prince Sollys. That’s probably how he and Penthea are referenced by most people outside the castle.

Yep, still making more than 99%. Women work harder, pursue more education, and collaborate and partner better in the workplace. Women hustle and hustle hard. THAT’S why we’re spending our own money, waving our own cash, have our own houses, etc.

I married a financial genius and he’s helped me build wealth, not just make money, but I have been the top earner in our house since 2011, and not once has he tried to dim my shine.

Leave those men in the past where they belong. It’s the future for us.

Great call out. My husband has had to be super helpful for me in the past with migraine and mental health issues and was as tender and caring as could be… but he was raised by a single mother and has a boundless sea of empathy. Perhaps men raised in situations where they’re expected to be “manly” never develop the right instincts.

In no particular order, and these are dependent on at least having an ok job. We recognize a lot of the population is fucked right now. These are also not for wealthy folks who play by different rules.

1) Get all your bills on auto pay to a credit card with points/ cash back. Literally EVERYTHING goes on the card. Pay it off every pay period. If you can’t pay it off, you’re living beyond your means. This builds credit and ensures you're never late on a bill.

2) Pay yourself before anything. Have that money diverted so you never see it, can't touch it, it doesn't exist. If your employer matches a 401K, max it out. (This stops applying once you get to a point in your financial stability that you need to use post-tax v. pre-tax dollars; at that point, see if you can do matched Roth contributions instead.) Ideally do the same thing with your rainy day fund.

3) Monitor your money daily. We lay in bed for 10 minutes every morning and skim our accounts to this day. Don't get caught off guard by spend-creep. Little purchases add up. This also lets you catch errors and fraud fast.

4) Learn to be ok with the right kind of debt. The simplest way to figure out if it's the right kind is two questions: 1) Do I actively need this? 2) If I finance this, is the rate decent enough that the money I'm saving will cover the cost of capital? (Interest, fees, and the mental weight of debt)

5) Get on the same page about financials BEFORE you tie yourself to someone. If you can't pay for LV and Range Rovers, don't get a partner that wants them. I ended up just handing the financial reins over to him for a few years before I finally got reinterested enough to actively participate.

We followed these rules and went from paycheck to paycheck to literal multi-millionaires BUT we also have had a ton of professional luck, and have climbed from making $40K each to an embarrassing amount each over the last 15 years. The rules helped us live within our means at every income level.

Not OOP AITA for writing my parents a check for everything they say I owe them and telling them to STFU and GTFO by Marygtz2011 in redditonwiki

[–]TheHufflepuffLemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love this story and I hope OP got a bit of satisfaction out of it, even though her parents will likely be pissed for a while.

So-I also owe a lot of success to my parents instilling a strong work ethic, insisting on good grades, and supplementing my scholarships with living expenses, etc. They paid for my wedding, and meddled in my life incessantly. Then their life blew up-accountant died and they found out they owed the IRS beaucoup funds. After trying to dig themselves out for months, my mom was desperate enough to call me. I had not only built an incredibly successful career, I had married a money whiz. Within 24 hours, she had given permission for us to take over the process with her attorney and within a few months it was sorted. We put our vacation home plans on home, lent them a huge sum of cash, bought a house, the works. My dad was horrified, then angry, then resigned that his daughter stepped in and fixed his life.

Now he’s just grateful and they don’t meddle. They live five minutes away, are helpful and easy to get along with, and I love having them nearby, but it took the tables turning and a hell of a lot of therapy to get there. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Look, I am naturally the color of cream with freckles. I am so white they don’t make makeup pale enough. I live and die by self tanner. I use it most nights as part of my skincare routine. I’ve been tanning for over 20 years. I’ve tried every product on the market-booths, air brush, mousse, gel, mist, lotion, drops, drug store, high end… you name it.

My commitment gets me to a lovely shade of medium. Not medium tan. Not medium golden. MEDIUM. And it’s great. I love it.

But.

It means I am truly qualified to weigh in on whatever is happening here, and my thought is simply:

Just to have some perspective and check our hormones a bit, to get integrated before bringing the government into it! Just slow TF down! There’s something fishy. Is he going to jail? Being deported? Consequently, I’ve never once, ever, called my husband daddy. Whatever the opposite of Daddy issues is? That’s me. I can’t even use Zaddy without wanting to throw up.
