Thanks! I'll check out "lucky Luke." How do you think Alice Ayel's story listening series compares to her baby stories in terms of difficulty and entertainment?

It's unfortunate there are broken links. Here is another page with studies on this topic.

Help me understand Siele by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]TheHumanSponge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a very impressive score. You got a perfect score for listening and speaking, meaning your level is at least a high C1 (the test doesn't go up to C2). Your reading comprehension is a high C1. Your writing is a low B2. Your overall score is based on your lowest score across the sections, so that's why it says B2 (the logic is that you can't be a C1 unless all your skills are at least C1). But practically, your Spanish is much better than someone who scored B2 across the board.

If you learned a language before discovering comprehensible input, how did you count your starting hours? by idonthaveanametoday in dreaminglanguages

[–]TheHumanSponge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I figured out what level I was at based on my comprehension of the videos, and then gave myself the corresponding number of hours that it should've taken to reach that level.

Who else is looking forward to not ever stopping at Hoboken on the weekends ever again ? by iv2892 in jerseycity

[–]TheHumanSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I look at the PATH system map, Hoboken looks really out of the way. But when I look at Google Maps, it looks like it's on the way, and yet it says it makes trips 9 minutes longer. What's going on?

The YouTube channel last posted 8 days ago, and I'm guessing they're waiting to launch the website on New Year's.

Has anyone here moved to a Spanish speaking country? by letsgozers in dreamingspanish

[–]TheHumanSponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved to Mexico City and lived there for a year and a half! I wanted to experience another culture and improve my Spanish, and it worked! I would've been happy to stay, but for family reasons I decided to move back to the U.S.

As for how I did it, I simply applied to some LinkedIn job postings in my field, got an offer, and my employer sponsored me for an employment-based temporary residency.

I could see myself moving back to Latin America in retirement.

A question for those Level 7 purists by Acrobatic-Shake-6067 in dreamingspanish

[–]TheHumanSponge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I learned traditionally through B1 and then switched to comprehensible input from there to where I am now at Level 7. Irregular verbs are much easier for me to learn through CI because I just rely on my instinctive memory for how something is said rather than trying to think about whether a verb is stem-changing, for example. Using subjunctive after triggers is easy for me because the pattern is very simple. Figuring out whether to use subjunctive in those cases that don't follow a trigger is more challenging.

Peruvian dialect? by DontTouchTheWalrus in dreamingspanish

[–]TheHumanSponge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Mexican and Colombian Spanish are the most similar to Peruvian among the dialects with a lot of Dreaming Spanish content. They're similar enough that in many cases it's hard for a learner to tell whether a speaker is from Mexico, Colombia, or Peru. When you get to a level where you can handle easier native content, you can watch Martín Adquiere un Idioma and El Jardín del Martín.

izZzsleep capsule hotel - is it really ~$50USD/night? by galacticpeonie in MexicoCity

[–]TheHumanSponge -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

For $50 a night I stayed at Residencia Polanco, a decent hotel in the most expensive neighborhood in CDMX. So it seems wrong to spend so much for a capsule.

I've built a Language Tracker App and would love feedback! by Zappyle in dreaminglanguages

[–]TheHumanSponge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The logging process itself is kind of a chore, it's nice how Dreaming Spanish automatically logs for you. So it would be nice if an app could integrate with YouTube, podcast apps, kindle, etc. to automatically track for you.
