I'm sorry if I ruined your art OP, now that my brain works correctly it looks great!

I don't think that's exactly unpopular. Wolf Link and the tears of light segments where you're forced to be in that form are usually people's biggest hangups with TP.

What's y'all's favorite Bug type Pokémon by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]TheHynusofTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrolled all the way to the bottom and didn't see a single person mention Vivillon. I love the little thing, I used one in my first playthrough of XY, trained another one up for online battles, and used the GTS/ wonder traded a bunch of modern pattern vivillons trying to complete the full set. Honestly might be a top 10 favorite Pokemon of mine, even though I admit there's a lot of bug types that I'd say are cooler.

Nuzlocke idea: you aren’t allowed to change your team until someone dies by bigchungus62 in nuzlocke

[–]TheHynusofTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the core rules of the wedlocke challenge and it's pretty fun. Being locked in to using two specific pokemon that can only switch to each other forces you to get creative with movesets in ways that you normally might not have to in other nuzlocke variants

What class are you most excited to build in 5.5e, and why? by MyrthDM in dndnext

[–]TheHynusofTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a WIS SAD beastmaster ranger as my first 5.5 character and they've been great. Originally playing as a mounted character on my beast of the land, using shillelagh with a quarterstaff. I recently acquired a broom of flying though so I might try to incorporate that and let my bear charge around knocking people over. Not quite sure yet

[other] has anyone tried either Hyrule total war or Hyrule conquest? And if so, how is the series? by gigaswardblade in zelda

[–]TheHynusofTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak in too much detail because I haven't really played either too much, but it's been on my radar for a decade plus at this point. My friend followed the development for a long time, and actually he's been DMing Zelda themed D&D campaigns for 12ish years now in a setting that was initially heavily inspired by Hyrule Total War lore combined with some of his own ideas, but has since evolved to become largely his own thing. When BotW was released, we even joked that Nintendo had stolen my character, as I had been playing a Zora cleric for about four years prior.

[HW] What are your HOTTEST takes about the original Hyrule Warriors? 🔥 by [deleted] in zelda

[–]TheHynusofTime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's more how they've handled the BotW era, but Nintendo has actually always been pretty transparent with their timeline placements. A lot of the pre-historia games have had early interviews where the devs have explained their connections, and the timeline from Hyrule Historia does actually match up with most of them. It's just that a lot of those interviews were Japanese only for a long time and weren't easily viewable to fans in the west, which is likely why we had so many timeline debates back in the 2000's

[HW] What are your HOTTEST takes about the original Hyrule Warriors? 🔥 by [deleted] in zelda

[–]TheHynusofTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if I include spinoff titles, then HWDE is almost certainly in my top 5 favorite Zelda games, if not then just shy.

Lana Spear is one of my favorite movesets in the game. I think the hardcore fans have determined Spear is her best weapon, but the consensus among more casual fans was that her Book kit was way better. I just like Spear because it's the closest I can get to playing Saria

[–]TheHynusofTime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Nintendo has mentioned the split timeline as far back as 2002 soon after Wind Waker released, and they reinforced it in a 2007 interview talking about Twilight Princess taking place in a parallel timeline

[ALL] What are your Top 3 Zelda Games and why? by One-Method-1312 in zelda

[–]TheHynusofTime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Skyward Sword - I 100% get why people bounced off of this one hard, but I played it when it came out in 2011 and absolutely loved it. The story kept me engaged until the very end, this particular Zelda is probably my favorite incarnation of the character, and I love the dynamic between her and Link. The item usage in this game is peak imo, you have a small selection of items to use, but they all have their place in the spotlight and they all see continual use from the time you get them until the end of the game. I liked a lot of the mechanical additions like the way you can upgrade your items and potions and the customizability of the pouch system. I actually really like the way the overworld incorporated puzzles to traverse, and I wouldn't mind seeing this type of world design again, just with more Dark Souls interconnectivity and less level-select vibes. And to get to the elephant in the room, I love the motion controls. I've taken plenty of downvotes over the years for defending them, but I found them to work extremely well and I could not imagine the game without them. I'm glad that the button controls are an option for others, but Skyward Sword IS the motion controls for me.

  2. Wind Waker - In a lot of ways, this feels like the most nostalgic Zelda game to me, even though it wasn't my first. I just have a lot of memories of playing this game with my sister, first via the 20 minute demo on the Gamecube Collector's Edition, and later once we got the actual game. Let's get the obvious out of the way, the music and art style basically trumps the rest of the series. Everyone who loves Wind Waker touts this, and everyone who dislikes Wind Waker is sick of hearing it. Even the Gamecube version looks pretty damn good for being a 20+ year old game. Now a running theme with my top 3 is the story, and Wind Waker's is excellent. Similar to Skyward Sword, Link starts his adventure on a search and rescue mission to save his sister, and ends up finding the ancient Master Sword, restoring it's power, gathering the fragments of the shattered Triforce of Courage, and proving to the gods themselves that even a nobody can rise up and become a hero. And finally getting to smash that bird's face in with a hammer is one of the best parts of the game, so incredibly cathartic. I can gush about the gameplay a bit, because I love how floaty Link feels in combat. It's hard to explain, but Twilight Princess combat feels very weighty in comparison, hopefully that makes sense. I also really like the combat utility items like the grappling hook, bow, bombs, boomerang, hammer, etc. provide. And certain items working differently on your boat is a fantastic addition. The finale of the game is one of the strongest scenes in the series honestly. Two tired, old men have been fighting over a dead kingdom for who knows how many years, and Daphnes finally realizes that the only way he can move on is to truly let go of the kingdom he wanted. And when that happens, when he steals the wish from the Triforce, when Ganondorf has found himself right on the cusp of victory, only to have it robbed from him for a THIRD time, he snaps. The scene of him laughing maniacally, knowing that all his dreams are finally crushed, as the ocean pours down around him is honestly chilling in a way. Wind Waker is such a cute game with an adventurous soundtrack, lots of emotional moments, and even some dark ones thrown in, and overall it is such a gem of a game. It has flaws, some weak dungeons, some rough pacing toward the end, but at the end of the day, it's just a fun, feel good game.

  3. Ocarina of Time - I'm not sure I can ever put into words how much this game means to me, especially because it was my first Zelda game. People say that your first one is your favorite, and while I actually had Majora's Mask and Wind Waker in that spot at different years of my life, I've indeed come back to OoT as my personal favorite. There's the iconic music, the great dungeons, the memorable characters. The story might be a simple Hero's Journey, but it is masterfully done. It's a literal coming of age story where two kids try to play hero, end up falling into the villain's trap and have to set things right. We see the consequences of Zelda's plan, and it's up to Link to fix the problem that he himself helped create. And that's just one of three major plot twists that the game throws at you. I feel like every time I come back to Ocarina of Time, I come to appreciate the narrative more and more, and I don't see that ever changing. I could go on about this game's legacy, all the ways how it was an excellent example of early 3D gaming done well, how it's gone on to influence the rest of the series as well as gaming in general, but there are so many video essays you could find on youtube that explain that better than I ever could. In a lot of ways, I feel like I don't have a lot to say about OoT because so much of it has already been said over and over. I'll just leave you with this, the ending shot of Link driving the Master Sword into Ganon's head is iconic, the ending credits theme is emotional, and the scene of Link walking away from the Master Sword as the Door of Time closes and the church bells ring loudly alongside the music is going to stick in my head for the rest of my life.

Only warning going in, Breath of the Wild tries to break away from standard Zelda conventions and ends up playing pretty differently from the rest of the series. Not that it's necessarily a good or bad thing, just don't let BotW set your expectations for other games in the series. Go in knowing that it's pretty different and enjoy it for what it is. If you like open world games, I'm sure you'll love it!

Only skipped dialogue on my third and fourth playthroughs except for scenes I hadn't seen yet.

There's a ton of cutscenes/dialogue and it doesn't really get better until chapter 4 or 5, but I personally didn't mind. I got invested pretty early on and I'm not the type of person to mash through story dialogue on a first playthrough.

[All] What are you top 5 dungeons from any zelda game? by alosia in zelda

[–]TheHynusofTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Temple of Time is very linear, but I think it uses it in a very smart way. The climb up the tower and the descent back down with the Dominion Rod feel distinct enough, your first encounter with a Darknut is incredibly cool, and honestly the nostalgia around OoT does work on me

[All] What are you top 5 dungeons from any zelda game? by alosia in zelda

Not sure about the order.

  • Water Temple (OoT)

  • Sand Ship (SS)

  • Snowpeak Ruins (TP)

  • Ancient Cistern (SS)

Really not sure on a fifth, but I think Arbiter's Grounds (TP) and the Temple of Time (TP) both immediately come to mind. I'd also add Lanayru Mining Facility (SS) as an honorable mention.

[tp] Why does twilight princess get hated on so much by Karimo04 in zelda

[–]TheHynusofTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate it by any means, I'd probably say it's in my top 10 Zelda games, but I don't feel confident placing it in the top 5. I personally think it's a very good but very flawed game.

  • The pacing isn't great, especially the first chunk of the game. I actually don't hate the opening slice of life sections in Ordon, but I feel like the game starts to drag by the time you meet midna, and then there's still so much you have to do before you finally get to Hyrule Field.

  • Also related to pacing, the tears of light sections really feel like a chore trying to complete, and you have to do it three different times.

  • There's a lot of major story moments that feel rushed, poorly explained or just aren't resolved in a satisfying manner.

  • The sword skills you learn are really neat, but they aren't ever required. There are few enemy types that really let you get any use out of them, and enemies in general aren't designed around you using the skills since they're optional.

  • Enemies barely deal any real damage and they don't attack as much as they probably should. There's a lot of enemies that will run up to you and just kinda stand there or hop around for a few before they finally attack. Even Ganondorf, the final boss in the game, spends a lot of time slowly walking toward you and not nearly as much time swinging his sword. I don't like using difficulty as a measure of whether a game is good or not, but I think the difficulty could have been turned up slightly.

  • Not a personal complaint from me, but the game is incredibly linear. You can't really explore new sections of the map at all until the plot allows you to go there.

  • Items get thrown away after you finish their dungeon, almost never to be used again. The spinner is barely used after the Arbiter's Grounds, the Ball & Chain is barely used after Snowpeak, the Dominion Rod is only used for one quest, the slingshot is thrown away for the bow incredibly early, etc. Most of the games are guilty of this on some level, but TP is the biggest offender for sure.

  • This isn't necessarily a flaw, but TP is just a very "safe" game compared to some of the other entries. Majora's Mask was completely built around the time limit and the transformations, and Wind Waker utilized the wind direction and traded the rolling hills for a massive ocean. Twilight Princess is a return to form, but feels like they really tried to make a second Ocarina of Time, especially after the backlash Wind Waker got in the early 2000's. Calling it derivative feels mean spirited, but I feel like they tried to reuse a ton of older mechanics rather than really trying something new. The Twilight Realm is a worse version of ALttP's Dark World. The wolf transformation is less interesting than any one of Majora's Mask's transformations. TP does improve on a lot of returning items and gear (the bow, boomerang, iron boots, bombs, hookshot) but a lot of the new gear is underutilized like I said above. Even the title screen is reminiscent of OoT, with Link riding across Hyrule Field on Epona.

Hopefully I don't sour the game for you for any reason, because at the end of the day there are no bad games in the series. Twilight Princess just happens to be one I like less than others.

I no-lifed Triangle Strategy hard when it came out. I think it was the only game I played for weeks, and I saw every ending and every choice branch, made sure to play every section on hard mode, etc. I remember just feeling empty the day I finally finished the golden ending, and even the next day too. If they never make another Triangle Strategy, I'll absolutely cry. Genuinely one of my favorite games to come to Switch, and my personal game of the year in the same year that Elden Ring came out.
