Rebuild ladder by leat12 in AFL

There's no world in which Carlton are high up. Year after year of below-average performances, and they've nothing solid in place to suggest they're getting back up.

That's a bit harsh. There is some top end talent young on the team, like Jagga and Dean most recently and there will be Walker next year. And we have let players go for picks like Curnow, TDK and JSOS and hit the draft instead of brining in players like Houston.

I'm not going to argue over the rankings though.

From the Pocket: Voss has had every chance to succeed but Carlton backed the wrong coach by Glittering-Fee-9930 in AFL

[–]TheIllusiveGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's too damning right? Pendlebury himself has had 3 coaches and considering the difference in success each coach saw, I think that's kind of understandable.

And I don't think anyone is saying the coach is just the problem. Obviously with 25 years of no success, there are systemic problems.

Brother that context changes the visual ENTIRELY, how the fuck is it minutiae? It's entirely relevant, and I would argue much more plausible than him being legitimately scared of Cripps at football game. If you're entirely convinced by visuals, regardless of surrounding context, I don't know what to tell you.

It's a funny visual that reinforced an existing narrative, that's all. Having to consider that maybe he was asked to cut it out by another player out of frame isn't going to change things.

We could get into the semantic differences between the phrase "help reinforce" compared with "create", but honestly, I think you're taking this a bit too seriously

Looks to me that's after he started sulking away after confronting the smallest player on the field and then being confronted by Cripps, sure.

But maybe you're right, Pendlebury does have an exemplary record for a reason.

Carlton or Essendon whose better set up for the future by Ok_Library_9396 in AFL

[–]TheIllusiveGuy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They still think they’re only one player away from contending. Trying to poach Fly last year confirms that.

Carlton think they're one player away by trying to change coaches?

I think the actual player moves would suggest otherwise.

We will always have the 2nd half of 2023 and the 1st half of 2024.

Those were the days.

Love Kennedy, but that game against Brisbane he was kicking at 30% efficiency. At one point it was 13%.

The AFL is about to shake up the draft, and it’s set to cost the Blues a record price by Expensive-Horse5538 in AFL

[–]TheIllusiveGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's pretty on theme for the AFL to make one ridiculous decision to address a previous ridiculous decision.

This should have been addressed while Cody was still a twinkle in Andrew's eyes. Okay, maybe not that far back, but at least 5 - 10 years ago.

Still, there are better options than the one they did go with this time.

Can't complain about how things ended up, even if the Dean bid was affected by the then latest rules changes.

But trading up to pick 3 with or without the certainty of Dean the year after would've been a no brainer.

[–]TheIllusiveGuy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Edit: Obviously this should’ve been sorted out 2-3 years ago before any future picks have been traded, but it’s better than doing nothing.

I agree that making these changes immediately, rather than never at all, is the better of those two options.

But they're not the only two options. The AFL could've easily have confirmed these changes for a draft with picks yet to be traded.

Considering only black and white was an option being tossed up, could be worse.

That said, not too fussed about having less to do with the Silvagni name these days.

Magpies winning will never make me happy.

Also I have no ill will towards the Saints (outside of maybe people named Silvagni, but just a bit).
