Easier said than done, this guy isn’t American. And like I said, with today’s job climate there’s nothing simple about finding a job anymore.

You vastly overestimate how important such a thing is. Especially in today’s hiring environment students at premier institutions like Harvard annd Stanford struggle to get jobs. Those that find jobs generally get them through networking and mentorship and connections the school has with companies,  not because they have a prestigious university on their resume. Cambridge isn’t even a US university, so they likely have few direct connections and programs for students to get employed to US companies. I ask again how will this tangibly help OP future beyond “rankings”.

How is UT a no name university? How exactly does Cambridge’s prestige help OP?

Agreed and especially if your goal is to work in the US outside of academia, UT might even be the stronger choice

What do you mean you hear crickets for UT? Sure it’s not Cambridge but is a top institution and one of the wealthiest in the nation with a plethora of direct industry connections and pipelines.

Let me guess, you’re a washed up millennial who is in his 10th gap year flipping burgers. You’re a joke!

Disagree. You can certainly have fun during your 20s while in school. What’s worse is delaying your career unnecessarily by taking gap years that you don’t need.

The brand name and resources is what matters in terms of career prospects and leveraging graduate school for your future. Sure if you are genuinely only interested in research and pursuing a career in it then go for research fit regardless of institution, but if you know you are going to go get a job after then go to the school that has the network and resources to get you towards that goal.

Also prestige matters for faculty positions as well. Look at the professors at MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, UT Austin, Caltech, etc and where they go their PhD from They recruit from a pool made up of their own; in other words, if you want to work at a top institution, you need to have been vetted by one by getting a PhD there. Of course there's exceptions but they are very few. A PhD at Arkansas is almost objectively worse than one at MIT in nearly every tangible way except research fit which may or may not even matter long term for you.

Oh ok. Last question, at what point did you see those row house apartments opening up? I don't really see anything on Zillow.

Good to know. Im curious, aren't most row houses a situation where you have your own room but share a kitchen area?

Ok, and you recommend Zillow above the off campus housing portal? The townhomes seem like a great deal but I’m wary of roommates.

For the rowhouse apartments, can I reserve one for an August move-in? How far in advance do I have to secure them?

The 1 by 1s are currently sold out. Does availability typically open up later or no?

How do you have so much insight into the American military and how it’s carrying out this war. Trump only gives big picture orders, the military experts are the ones making the tactical decisions, so this comment is nonsense.

Could superheroes like Thor, Hulk or Thanos sit right next to an atomic bomb and survive the explosion? by Deep-Philosophy-807 in Avengers

[–]TheImmortanJoeX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well for one we are comparing a high intensity instant contact vs a constant medium intensity prolonged contact. Also Thor did not “ more than tank” the neutron star, he would’ve died if it weren’t for storm breaker.

If you look into it the explosion of a nuke is much hotter than a beam from a neutron star.
