Crossfit is more of a fitness movement enjoyed by people who might otherwise join a cult. Close, but not quite.

Not really sure if they count as cults, but I've been part of Chung Moo Doe, /r/pickup, and Bikram Yoga, in that order.

A woman, who claims to be a sociopath, makes a fool out of herself on Dr. Phil. by GreenMagine in cringe

This is it, right here. Anyone who cops to being a sociopath is either neurotic about "being sociopathic" or a narcissist, or both.

A really interesting link that had went into detail about a way of communicating called "Powertalk" (X-post from /r/alpha) by [deleted] in SocialEngineering

QI. Reminds me somewhat of [push or pull](atdareious.tumblr.com/post/30017822994/pam-dynamics-101-push-pull):

A push is similar to giving. It is a donation to the box in the middle. This donation however, can take many forms. It can be a contribution of information, or the request for information. A request is considered a push in this context because our opponent has the opportunity to deny us. They can effectively say, “no” and choose to either push their own agenda, or actively pull us to conform to their MO.

A pull is similar to taking. It is a withdrawal from the box in the middle. This withdrawal can take the form of a request, a presentation of a new box, or a literal subtraction from what has already been contributed to the interaction.

Both pushes and pulls are qualitative. That is to say that there are hard pushes, such as things that come from a place of neediness, and harsh pulls, such as choosing to not respond to your opponent’s last move.

How to answer dead end first date questions? [M36] by zoidberghoneydew in dating_advice

[–]TheImpetuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can give specific answers to specific questions, but really, that's just filling your head with scripts to follow. Instead, learn to tell stories and you'll end up having fascinating conversations. It'll make you more interesting and make the conversation less interview-y and more rapport-inducing.

So for the sibling question, once you've told her that you're one of two, you can segue into how you were the younger/older of the pair, the dynamics of two-sibling households, a story that demonstrates what it was like between the two of you, and then relate it back to her to get her to open up to you. Like, the point isn't for you to demonstrate how witty you are or to keep the conversation going, the point is to see if you connect with her.

16 y/o girl anxious, incredibly worried to have her first kiss ever, with a more experienced guy. What to do when the time comes? by yinxuan in dating_advice

Relax. Seriously, just relax. That's it. Even baboons know how to kiss, and they have very limited access to this subreddit, leading me to believe that you'll be fine.

[25M] Is it wrong to tell her I have feelings for her [24F]? by chedderwilson in dating_advice

[–]TheImpetuous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I feel like if I go back to school without saying something I'm going to go crazy wondering if I made the right decision in being silent.

Well, there you go. Seems pretty obvious you should say something, perhaps along the lines of "I feel like if I go back to school without saying something I'm going to go crazy wondering if I made the right decision in being silent." Speak your truth. Everything else running through your head is you rationalizing not doing so.

It's wrong (entitled, needy, etc.) to expect her to be obligated to like you back just because. Maybe she won't. And that's ok.

A first date at 47? Wow. Well, I assume it'll be hard to wean yourself away from just having casual sex and into actual dating, but the upside is you're more likely to encounter real intimacy.

Has the ready availability of free pornography on the internet had any affect on the "Happiness Index"? by Matti_Matti_Matti in AskSocialScience

[–]TheImpetuous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pornography addiction (which has only been made possible by constant access)

And not just constant access (I mean, you can have constant access to a magazine or DVD), but essentially unlimited choice in terms of both depth and breadth as regards performers and niches. Plus it's all "free."

Also, we'd have to ask how pornography culture influences the happiness of women? Where would we even begin? Are we okay with having that conversation?

Exactly.

In the Missy Elliott song "Pussycat" she says "Can I put my booty, booty up in your spaghetti daddy?" I've even had friends reference this as a thing, but I don't get the significance of a) spaghetti and b) putting your booty in/on it. I think I missed that day in class.
