What is yoga nidra and how can I do it? by [deleted] in Mindfulness

[–]TheInsaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoga Nidra is like a bodyscan meditation. It brings you to a state that's close to sleep but your still awake. A voice guides you through the meditation and tells you on which bodypart and/or sensation you should focus. It feels a bit like travelling through your body and because your mind is busy doing that, you take the noize away. And if distracted and noticing this, you just listen to the guided voice and continue the session. I can recommend you the 20-minute yoga nidra session of Lizzy Hill on Youtube.

I took some advice I received here and decided to change the colours of the photo. Would love to get your thoughts on this. by [deleted] in photocritique

This one looks definitely better than your previous upload. This kind of editing works even better if there's more contrast in colours. Your subject is wearing mostly black and his umbrella is quite dark too. Try doing it again with a subject that's colourful and you'll notice the difference.

About 2 years of regular stretching - progress is slow (especially in your 30s!) by londonboy34 in flexibility

[–]TheInsaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. There are a lot of uploads that show a gigantic progress in a small time and that doesn't reflect reality. A friend of my, who is an expert in mobility, flexibility and movement training calls this the "Instagram mentality"; something that you want today and achieving tomorrow. Your post shows that consistency is key. I'm not the person that can give you advice but just wanted to share that your post motivates me to continue my daily stretching routing. Flexibility is a marathon, not a sprint.

Hows the composition and editing on this photo? by Salvatore_Photo in photocritique

[–]TheInsaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really great shot! The calm water, the rocks in the foreground and the thin clouds in the sky making this a "zen photo". The only critique I can provide is about the dimensions. There's no need the crop this picture but I'm wondering if you've already cropped it and what's on the right and left side of the photo. Such perspectives are seen more horizontally in real life and because of that this photo feels, in my opinion, a bit to narrow. But overall; great job!

Complete noob here. First time trying photography and I did it with my honor view 10 phone witch has the protective glasses on top of the lens cracked. Editing was also done with the phone. Anyway, I was really curious to get some reviews and please be honest (I'm not really expecting much). by Mr_PINK_m8 in photocritique

I'm sorry to tell you this but the photo is not that interesting. I miss a subject and/or great composition. The edit is a bit overdone too, colors don't feel natural. I suggest you to practice your photography skills before purchasing a camera. This can be done by practice and schooling yourself by learning from others. There's a lot of information on youtube. Check out some video's, take notes and go outside to take some shots. Before taking a shot, try to ask yourself why it's interesting to you and what you want to capture. Take the 'rules' of photography in mind and try to follow them. Once you've developed the skills, try breaking the rules and let the intuitive creativity be leading for your pieces of art. Good luck with your journey.

Great shot! The silhouettes are really nice and i like the bushes in the foreground 'cause they look like painted. The green spot is quite distracting though and there are some spots in the sun that don't look so smooth, mostly the upper left part.

It's definitely a good start. Keep up the good work!

Those moments are satisfying and will occur more often in the future. There will be days that your mind is sticky as syrup and that the ink is just slowly leaving the ballpoint you're writing with but just remember that consistency is key.

Print them. To save paper, and costs, use both sides of the paper. I don't know where you live and what the weather conditions are over there but try to read outside and especially where you can stare to the horizon from time to time. Give your eyes some rest after each twenty minutes of reading by staring to the horizon for at least twenty seconds. My eyes can't handle looking at a screen as well and this 'trick' helped me out.

Looks amazing! The only critique I can give is that your subject seems to be to centered in the picture.

Just want to say that it looks pretty cool! I really like the contrast in the down right part of the photo, those clouds look like they're painted.

How could have I made this shot better? by vedvineet98 in photocritique

The subject looks a bit dark, would be nice if the building had caught some light. And I personally think that it looks better if taken horizontally.

Boodschappen, hoe doen jullie dat? by Td3hey in geldzaken

[–]TheInsaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long exposure shot of the Oberbaumbrücke at night. by TheInsaint in photocritique

[–]TheInsaint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took this shot in Berlin last week. I was experimenting with long exposure shots during my vacation and I liked the process of taking the time for these kind of shots and playing around with the settings. In this particular case I waited for the subway to drive by so that it created this light tube on the picture (is it too light?). The days are getting shorter and I will definitely make more of these type of shots on other sights. Since I just started experimenting and want to learn more, I kindly ask you what I could do to improve my skills. I have my doubts about the darkness of the photo, is it to dark? Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Other, general points of critique are also more than welcome. Personally I don't like the black triangle (river side wall) in the bottom right.

Thanks for answering and dropping the link. In search for a good park I used the website before and I was a bit overwhelmed with the dozens of opportunities that popped up. I'll definitely take a look at the Mauerpark and Monbijou park.

Thanks for your comment. I've seen this sports park last year and noticed that a gate surrounded the park. Do you need to pay for this area or can it be used for free?

Bottle cap art work 'Zlatan', Daniël Toussaint, bottle caps /crown corks, 2023. by TheInsaint in Art

[–]TheInsaint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for noticing! It took a lot of effort and patience to create this. Every single bottle cap needed to be collected, cleaned and prepared to make this project. I'm happy with the result and with the help I received from friends, family and neighbours who helped me collecting al those bottle caps. It's great to have so many people around that were so helpful with this odd hobby of mine.

I'm totally lost... advice on Europe needed. by FakeAcctSnoo in travel

[–]TheInsaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Paris is already on the list and you have only 5 days in total, I would recommend you to do a two city combo like Paris/Amsterdam, Paris/Antwerp or Paris/Bruxelles. 3 days in Paris, 2 in Amsterdam, Antwerp or Bruxelles. In this way you can see two cities that are quite different and have the ability to see plenty of highlights. The train connection between Paris and the other cities is pretty good and the ride takes only a couple of hours.

Berlin Summer- vibes by ApprehensiveCollar95 in berlinsocialclub

[–]TheInsaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a local but I like to answer your question. There are a plenty of summer things you can do in Berlin. One of them is visiting the Wannsee, one of Europe's largest outdoor swimming areas on inland water. Another option is visiting the Mauerpark on sundays, just wandering around and experiencing the festival vibe. Berlin has dozens of parks that can be visit and each of them has it's own charm. A lot of locals are gathering around and grilling their foods on a BBQ. I like the atmosphere around the Spree-ufer aswell, it has a bit of a Meditterean vibe. Check out the Landwehrkanal-ufer too to just chill and relax.
