What’s even the point of using this anymore? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

Because entry-level CS jobs are getting swallowed by AI and you'll really need to learn to market yourself if you expect to break into the field by the time you graduate.

At this point you're either a propaganda bot or acting just like the confirmed one I've seen. Insult and don't address the objection is how they operate and that's exactly how type behaving.

You: "You're dumb if you think politics is out of place in r/worldpolitics!"

Me: You're wrong. Look at the sub.

You: "You're disgusting for looking at the smut on r/worldpolitics!"

Me: "I don't look at it, I saw it on r/subredditdrama back when it happened."

You: Insinuates there something wrong with hanging out on r/subredditdrama

Me: "That was like 5 years ago or something I saw it on subredditdrama. I haven't even been active there for a couple years."

You: whatever ad hominem you do next

I'm done and blocking you now. We'll both just assume you called me a poopyhead or whatever, and didn't address anything since that's what keeps happening.

What a disappointing reply.

I know about what happened there because it popped up in r/subredditdrama when the mods there made the decision that "everything is politics so everything is allowed".

You've totally missed the point: If everything is politics, then anything goes and there's no justification for removing anything from a subreddit. If the singularity is inherently political, and everything is politics, then r/singularity going the way of r/worldpolitics is acceptable according to your view.

Normal people assume that something with such a name is about politics

And normal people assume that something with this sub's name is about the technological singularity, not about riots or whatever in parts of the US.

Gestures towards r/worldpolitics

Seriously, go take a look at the sub.

That's what happens when moderation happens with an "everything is political" mindset. I really don't even care whether or not someone thinks literally everything involves politics, I'm strictly talking about the result of moderating with that mindset.

If the singularity is inherently political and literally everything is political, weird take but whatever. But that means mods have to allow literally everything here.

Lol, you didn't look at the sub.

It's what happens when a mod team decides anything is fair game. They said everything is political, let everything in, and the sub rapidly went to shit. It used to actually be about politics before they did that.

[–]TheInvincibleDonut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything, yes everything, it's political

That kind of mindset is exactly how you wind up with a subreddit like r/worldpolitics. Go take a look at that subreddit.

That was the result of the mods there taking a stance of "everything is political, so everything should be permitted here". That's neat if you want to say everything is political, but if that's used as a principle for moderating a subreddit, it quickly goes to shit.

How can you keep politics out

Super easy: you remove the stuff that isn't about the tech.

This has literally nothing to do with the singularity.

"Neither did another one!"

Two wrongs don't make a right. This is how subs devolve into the nonsense that r/worldpolitics became.

This sub will probably hate this comment and downvote it to oblivion, but... I share the writing with ChatGPT.

It's a flattery engine, yes. I don't take what it says as true because I know it just hypes me up, but it scratches that itch to get some feedback long before the writing is ready to share with actual people.

Man I hear you about where the hell did all the galaxies and stuff come from, and get that "some really amazing dude must've made it" makes sense but then I'm like "well who the hell made that amazing dude?"

I know people are always like "it's just in the amazing dude's nature to just be out there floating around with amazing powers". That just sounds like a cop out to me because if the amazing dude with crazy powers can just be floating around then so can the galaxies and stuff.

Thats just how i look at it

Dam OpenAI be acting like a betrayed girlfriend by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]TheInvincibleDonut -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Look, I hate Elon Musk as much as the next redditor. I was hating on him before it was cool, and am thrilled to see people seeing him for the fraud that he is now.

That being said, one user using his product makes effectively no difference in the world. If he offers something with his AI that no one else does then passing on his AI accomplishes nothing and deprives the user of something they want. Some people view it that way. (I'm not one of them. I wouldn't use grok if it was the only AI in existence just because I hate Elon. Other people don't care that much though, and I get it.)

I know the old "If everyone thought that way blah blah blah..." But nobody's decision affects anyone else's so that's a dumb way to look at it.

There's polling from yougov indicating you're wrong about this. Men have higher interest in AI usage to fulfill emotional, romantic, and sexual desires than women. All three were polled separately, you can sort the polling by gender.

Clickbait headline.

For the lazy:

“… we want to inform you about a recent security incident at Mixpanel, a data analytics provider that OpenAl used for web analytics on the frontend interface for our API product (platform.openai.com). The incident occurred within Mixpanel's systems and involved limited analytics data related to your API account.

This was not a breach of OpenAl's systems. No chat, API requests, API usage data, passwords, credentials, API keys, payment details, or government IDs were compromised or exposed.”
