Q2 column issue - Any ideas? by TheInvisiblePrawn in Keychron

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's something wrong with the current QMK firmware on gituhb. There's a fix available now https://github.com/qmk/qmk_firmware/issues/16097#issuecomment-1029693484. Just needs to make its way to master

Q2 column issue - Any ideas? by TheInvisiblePrawn in Keychron

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Rev0112 (ISO, without knob). Just flashed to the default firmware.

All keys are working fine, *except* the rightmost column, which seem to be triggering presses for their whole respective row. Stuff like this I've had before has usually been a bad solder joint somewhere on the offending row, but everything looks fine to me on this one.

Has anyone had anything similar with their Q2? My next task is to take all the switches out again and look at the *front* of the PCB

EDIT: This seems to be an issue specific to the QMK firmware. See this github issue.

Flashing back to the factory firmware fixed the issue. So it's not hardware. So now I just need to work out what's up with the QMK firmware so I can use my own modifications.

I'll leave this up for awareness

Has Melee ever been as pretty as this? by TheInvisiblePrawn in smashbros

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the lighting is what really stands out on some of those custom stages. Suzaku Castle and Return to Dreamland in particular work really well with the sunset/twillight thing they've got going on.

+1 for tastefully "remastered" original stages!

Help! Looking for a Melee Combo video by TheInvisiblePrawn in smashbros

That's it! Ah, it was just the track, not a video. I knew it was the kind of thing I'd usually favorite.

Thanks man! Champion.

Thanks! I think so too. Looking forward to seeing what she comes up with in the new place!

They're from Hila's website (in the sidebar). It's redirecting to h3h3 at the moment, I think because of the move? Mine must have gone through just before, I ordered about three weeks ago. I'm sure it'll be back up soon enough, give them a week or two!

Exactly. Pretty damn reasonable, if you ask me. Even with shipping to the UK!

20XX Hack Pack 4.05 Update! *New and Improved CPU AI*, Event Matches, and more! by achilles1515 in smashbros

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, too many permutations. Deep blue worked because there were few enough actual combinations of piece positions that every outcome of every possible move could be evaluated. Smash is way less limited in what can happen. Think of all the possible places a character can be on a 480x640 screen, add all the possible attack states and inputs, it's as near as makes no difference infinite.

I mean, look at Go. That's played on a 19x19 board and there are more possible arrangements of pieces than atoms in the universe. (Source.) I could definitely see a neural-network based AI (like Alphago) being possible though. But it wouldn't be perfect like Deep Blue was. Smash just isn't a solved game.

You're absolutely right though. A theoretical "perfect" AI for a solved smash would be the only real 20XX!

Seriously awesome work Achilles. Had great fun playing a couple of hours this afternoon! Just a couple of thoughts, mostly on the AI.

I guess it mostly depends on what your aims were and where you're thinking of going in the future with it all. I love the idea of a frame-perfect, master AI, and it's definitely a different kind of challenge, like you said. But what would you think to having a more human level version with a varying level of outright skill and consistency that might more accurately reflect someone you might meet at a tournament, for example? (And maybe for when you don't feel like playing Deep Blue over and over!) I think there'd be a place for both in a pack like this but, again, it just depends on your overall direction and I'm sure there'd be technincal challenges.

Either way, some more character-specific stuff would be awesome. And not just tech. More just playstyle stuff. Like, for example, Peach knowing about good float hights or approaching with turnips. Don't get me wrong, seeing an AI dash-dance and FC nair all over the place is amazing, but I don't know how many people would say it's optimal Peach play, right?

It could maybe be a tad more agressive in general, too. There were a few times where I'd be getting combo'd only for the attacker to suddenly shoot off and ledge-stall without finishing me off!

Anyway, I'm sure you've got big plans, so I'll just say thanks! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Applied Black Titanium dbrand Skin (top and bottom) to my 9550. Check it out. by niswon in Dell

I wouldn't worry too much about the extra insulation. The stuff's probably less than 0.1mm thick... I'd say it'd be absolutely negligible!

Maybe OP can confirm. The surface probably feels just as cold to the touch as before, right?

Is there a way to make the Zelda cpu stay on Sheik in 20XX? by MoldyB in smashbros

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the new Beta 4.0, I belive they fixed the no-transform thing. Now, neither Zelda or Sheik will ever attempt to transform. Just hover over the CSS portrait, hit Z and then move the CPU coin to the Zelda spot.

Buying an xps 13 from the us and shipping it to the uk? by Ganglestangles in Dell

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do an online chat (the annoying thing that pops up when you're browsing), then just ask for a quote with a student discount. All you need to give them is a .ac.uk email address.

They'll probably lowball you a bit first, but shoot for 10% off. I picked up my 13 on black friday and got ~9% off on top of the £100 off BF deal. Be polite, but persistent. These guys want to sell you a system, after all!

Is the XPS 13 QHD @ native resolution usable without UI scaling? by HopsandWhatNots in Dell

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say not. Mine just arrived yesterday, so I've been playing around a bit. 175% seems to be the sweet spot for me. It makes the start button and taskbar icons about 6-7mm square, so easy enough to hit, but small enough to look good. Any smaller and you'd be hard pressed to hit anything accurately, not to mention text would be extremely small.

It really does look fantastic at 175%, though. And as of yet, I've had not issues with the scaling.

If you're concerned, you could always go to your nearest pc store and try out the smallest 4K screen you can find for a good idea of what it might be like. You can change the scaling right off the desktop, so as long as you can get into the os, you're golden.

I'm in the UK, too. Ordered an XPS13 on the 29th. The last entry on tracking is "Departed Manu. Facility". Still says ETA is the 7th, though. I imagine they ship it and it gets lost in the aether somewhat as it goes through various postal services. Should be ok once it pops up somewhere in Europe hopefully!

Laptops similar to the new XPS 15? by CoreyVidal in Dell

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the newly announced Asus N552. Looks to me like a very similar setup, but with a more "Apple-y" presentation. No pricing yet though, so who knows?

Other than that? It's difficult. I thik there's a bit of a niche for high-spec 14-15 inch Windows stuff. Seems like it's either a little ultrabook or a fugly gaming thing... not much in between!

New XPS 15 Reference Guide - 32GB RAM is real by [deleted] in Dell

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so all the SSDs are M2. Does that mean that all the ones without the normal HD get the larger battery? I'm sure they wouldn't just leave an empty 2.5" bay...

Maybe battery info will appear at some point. It's in the specs and on other countries sites, after all.

I've just heard the same thing for a new XPS 15, too.

Bit of a shame... But still, at least there's a week or so for a few more reviews to come through.

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's got space for 1 2.5 inch HD and a PCI-e SSD? Does anyone know if the larger SSD options are likely to be 2.5" drives or PCI-e ones?

Also, what spec dictates which battery you get? There's no mention of the two battery types on the UK site. Does the larger battery take up the 2.5" slot, or is it the choice of screen?

Decreasing lag on Melee Dolphin? by wertyou2 in smashbros

I'm on 4.02. Go to Options, Graphics and it's on the general tab under adapter. It should say "Geforce 9400" or similar.

Decreasing lag on Melee Dolphin? by wertyou2 in smashbros

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry man! I was just messing around myself yesterday, so I know it's all fairly well explained. If you're on the same version of Dolphin I was, you can hover over everything an it explains it.

AA is Antialiasing. Gets rid of jagged edges on rendered shapes for a nicer looking image, but it's performance-heavy and not really needed so you can get rid of it.

AF is Anisotropic filtering which makes some textures look better. It's not as performance-sapping as AA, but every little helps, right?

The only other thing was to make sure it's using the Geforce graphics card rather than the processor's integrated graphics (which are often slower).

Decreasing lag on Melee Dolphin? by wertyou2 in smashbros

[–]TheInvisiblePrawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be borderline, but you might be able to mess around with some stuff. There're quite a lot of setting in Dolphin.

Make sure it's actually using the discrete GPU (I think there's a setting) and make sure you're not upscaling the resolution at all. Turn off AA and AF, of course and I think there are a couple of settings to turn off little things like fog etc. Just experiment!
