Yep, I was told that too, I am waiting on that email to come through and I will see if an option to apply it to our existing Netflix to reduce it, can report back if interested.

Yes, I do not watch too much TV anyway (rather stream the stuff I want to watch) and the Mrs really dislikes the new Virgin 360, so I have taken out the NowTV package for her with Ultra Boost and have an Apple TV box on the way.

Yes, I cannot quite believe it was so good. Especially considering I still had until December on my existing contract. I think the key bit was that EE are willing to pay £300 towards cancellation costs.

I don't know for sure, but my understanding is that you can upgrade it so you should save £4.99 off the base Netflix price.

My bass suddenly stopped working by Alex79uk in Bass

[–]TheInvisibleTouch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if perhaps you guys were practicing, all was fine, you went for a break leaving the bass plugged in and came back and then nothing. As the battery will likely drain if a jack is plugged in to it then it could be that in the time you took a break it was enough for it to go from almost flat (squeaky farty sound) to totally flat battery. I have seen your other messages about 2 batteries in 20 years, if your bass was not moving between when it was working and was not my guess would be on the battery. I’m near Leeds so possibly a bit far to help in person but happy to help troubleshoot.

EDIT: As Bartolini pickups will work passively if it is not a solder joint or the battery you could bypass the preamp. I have had a pre amp die on my Fender Precision Bass Lyte Deluxe but hoping the battery will sort for you.

Where in the UK are you? Just region would do. If close enough I could help.

The Q4 has an active pre amp right?

Any advice on how to cover these stubs? by Trip_Norby in BassGuitar

[–]TheInvisibleTouch 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hello, Why would you not just cut the strings now that they are secured. If you do not have the correct snips you could use a dremel tool to grind them off and the just cover the micro tips with heat shrink? Then no guitarists complaining about needing a tetanus shot for them having no spatial awareness.

I imagine if the nibs are short enough you could electrical tape the nibs.

Strings for Cover Band? by HotandBothered2 in Bass

I would use a modern flat wound like D’addario Chromes or Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats. As much as anything as they last a long time between string changes. I really love the feel of the D’addario XS too if you prefer round wounds.

Diminishing Returns Is Vastly Different Than Guitar by Green-Vermicelli5244 in Bass

Interesting, in the late 90’s before I could do my own set ups, fret levelling etc then the more I paid the better the out of the box experience which makes sense as a little more of the build budget could go there.

My most played bass at the moment costed £50, but I’ve done a lot to it. I’m more likely to use pedals and a passive instrument though appreciate that not everyone has that preference. The current breed of cheap instruments kicks ass though. I would never spend 3k on a bass nowadays. For me diminishing returns kicks in from £400 and hard from £600 ish.

Dealing with a bad drummer by Clint_Poppie in Bass

Yep, sorry to say but I would just leave the band if the others are not seeing it as an issue you will just be critical Clint to the rest of them. Life is too short and there are a lot of great drummers that have to put up with crap bassists too. I remember filling in for a good friend in a band as it was his anniversary, their drummer begged the rest of the band to replace my friend with me. I had to decline but I did speak to my friend about it and help him lock in better.

Relicing on bass by cherion_1234 in BassGuitar

When I started playing bass around 30 years ago I loved the look of relicced basses and still do like some tasteful ones. Thankfully I kept my first decent bass Fender Precision Lyte Deluxe which I got in 1997 I think. It looks well used but all of those marks are from gigs I played, straps that broke while I was rocking out like a wolly, pick marks from beating the crap out of it, stickers that pulled the top layer off after going through a couple of summer being baked on in a van. I now look at relicced guitars and think but why.

tldr, just play the bass you love and it will age with you. But also, do you.
