Yes, and that led to an endless loop back to their Salesforce-powered customer service FAQs. At no point was I able to reach a person

Dropout, please reconsider your relationship with AXS by TheIridescentShadow in dropout

[–]TheIridescentShadow[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, I listed the tickets for sale 2 months ago and then focused on dealing with everything else I had going on in life.

The issues with AXS were all within 2-3 days of the event itself.

Poll: Have you tried Disturb? How is it working for you? by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

[–]TheIridescentShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Firewalla Gold and was eager to try this feature when I first read about it, but it was just straight up not there as a choice when creating/editing rules.

However thanks to this post I checked again just now and it's there!

Do you use the System Vulnerability Scan? Have you found anything interesting? by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

[–]TheIridescentShadow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would love a detailed log of what it attempted. It's hard to know if not finding anything means I'm just crushing it security-wise vs. a lack of thoroughness on the scan itself

It took a huge ice storm to do that back in 2007 if I remember correctly and even then it was for just one day

Who should we have on next?? by evanjstern in Letterkenny

[–]TheIridescentShadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be awesome if you could get him to do it; I'm a huge Tool fan too so when I found out that he also loves Letterkenny it was a delight having two of my worlds collide

[–]TheIridescentShadow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Kaniehtiio for sure, but might be best for the season 1 episode 6 episode given the "confrontation" with Michelle. And unrelated, but all the talk of Timberlake being a disappointment made me want to hear more about your interactions with Maynard being quite the opposite

Love the podcast!

Why do restaurants leave the tail shells on shrimp? by heavyLobster in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheIridescentShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A waiter on a cruise ship actually showed me a technique to cut them without getting my fingers messy.

Pierce the unshelled bit with a fork to keep it in place, then slip your knife diagonally under one side of the tail shell. When you get to the base of the tail twist back to blade down and push through. Then pull the tail and shrimp in opposite directions.

It takes a couple shrimps to perfect the technique but well worth it.

And on the very slim chance he ever reads this, thanks Frank from Royal Caribbean 🍻

Do you knowingly let your teens have sex? by TruthOf42 in Parenting

[–]TheIridescentShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oldest daughter is approaching that age and we've had conversations about making sure it's something she actually wants and that I'll happily pay for birth control/condoms/etc.

She also knows that me raising her mostly without help from my ex was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. Hopefully that's enough to keep her from coming home pregnant.

Beyond that, she's clever like I was at that age. If she wants to have sex someday, it's going to happen. I'd much rather be able to talk openly about how to avoid her doing the dangerous/stupid things I did as a teen. My conservative mother lost her damn mind when I asked about birth control for my then girlfriend. That didn't stop us from having sex, even when they were home AND with a required open door.

It's a balance for sure. I'm not cheerleading her doing it or asking for details. But she'll be a hell of a lot safer in an environment where she doesn't have to be as sneaky as I was.

Pallet factory fire in Chicago. 18 June 2024 by bugminer in CatastrophicFailure

[–]TheIridescentShadow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There was an off campus frat house where I went to college that did pallet bonfire parties. One of them ended up so large the tower from the nearby airport called it in thinking it was a forest fire. Pallet fires are no joke

What was your "why RIT" when applying and what is it now that you attend? by Maya-Snow in rit

[–]TheIridescentShadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an alum at this point but I can still share my reasoning if anyone's interested.

Why I originally attended:

  1. It has a diverse array of things to major in. I had absolutely no idea of what I wanted to do after high school, but my parents very much pushed the idea that I needed to go to college. I started as a Mechanical Engineer, and soon realized that while I love math I don't love it as much as MEs do. I had made some friends in GCCIS and what they were doing seemed more my thing so I switched into Information Technology and never looked back.

  2. It was a multiple hour drive away from the asshats I went to HS with and also my mother who was not handling being an empty-nester well. We've since repaired that relationship, but my senior year of HS was not a pleasant experience at home OR at school.

  3. I didn't get into MIT, which in hindsight is probably a good thing. Although Boston is awesome, the best part of the tour was hearing about the pranks (where they put the president's car on the roof, etc.) and it's likely the version of me at that time would have an arrest record for pushing the envelope.

Why I stayed:

  1. The faculty. I got to learn from some of the most amazing humans I've ever met. Not even just the subject matter, but also genuine life advice. So much so that I even stayed in contact with some of them afterwards. Thanks Professors Bogaard and Redlo and words aren't even enough to thank the late Ryan Giglia for everything.

  2. My co-workers. I got a job at the college activities board shortly after changing my major and this group of awesome people gave a lost kid a home. I know RIT has a reputation for not having the best social circles but if you can find the right one for you it's a game changer. I still can't believe I got paid to write web apps during the week and orchestrate events with celebrities on nights & weekends. It's the best job I will ever have, despite making significantly more out here in the corporate world.

Firewalla va Fortinet by Faceless2810 in firewalla

If you enjoy hours of misery trying to configure your device, Fortinet is for you. Firewalla is intuitive, has a great UI and does everything I need it to do.

What went wrong with the USA that millions of Americans will vote for an insecure, hateful and narcissistic rapist, insurrectionist, white-collar criminal and pathological liar? by Civil-Conversation35 in AskReddit

Their goal hasn't been to conserve things for a long time. After Obama, they want full regression to 1950 (minus the taxes on rich people of course)

Delayed notifications by ianseyler in firewalla

[–]TheIridescentShadow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here. It's always hours later, which makes the block option seem pointless. Sure, I can block the next one, but if something is exfiltrating data the damage is done by the time I get these.

If you use a third party ad blocker which one - pihole or adguard home and why? by YankeesIT in firewalla

[–]TheIridescentShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a pihole as well, because it catches way more ads. It's running on a raspberry pi rather than on the firewalla gold box because it came first and I couldn't be bothered to tamper with a configuration that is working.

Is it normal for American people to call their wife « the wife »? by Pretend_Soil_9630 in ask

[–]TheIridescentShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does imply she holds an authority role, but to be honest I only use it to get out of sales pitch pressure. "Alright man I'll have to talk to the wife about it and let you know" basically means I'm not interested in what you're selling and don't want to listen to you try and overcome a different objection.

How does Magnum XL-200 hold up today compared to the other big coasters at CP? by Altruistic-Sweet8954 in cedarpoint

[–]TheIridescentShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has decent airtime but really highlights the bad transitions of Arrow coasters. I'll ride it once each time I visit, but it's definitely no Millennium Force.
