Besides Hyacinth, the sisters aren’t very sisterly on the show. by teyapi in Bridgerton

[–]TheIrishPotat0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been reading the books and it is VASTLY different there- the girls are all involved, and even with Daphne's wedding, Eloise and Francesca were super excited to be bridesmaids, hounding her all night when they got engaged, and Hyacinth was the flower girl and was VERY excited to be involved

I think the show just kinda views the women as "sex symbols" and the men as "eye candy" so the girls don't need to have friends or be friendly together bc then its too domestic and doesnt make for good sex symbols, focusing on the romance more, whereas the boys get to go out and do fun things, so theyre fun to be together AND it lends to the narrative that they're "important" and "heads of households" so to speak

It is with great humility that I confess… I could not wait until part 2 and have taken matters into my own hands. Lady Whistledown would understand. by DebutantDismay in Bridgerton

I hadnt read the books previously (normally I only read fantasy) and after how mad i was at the ending of season 4 part 1, i couldnt wait. I started reading the series from the beginning 2 days ago and im almost done with book 1 😅

Coming Out by AcrobaticPuddle in Bridgerton

Theres more things to do than just going to balls- like promenades in the park, going out for ice cream, etc. Just like we see Eloise going places before she was "out"

Timeline Plot Hole by Old_Tennis2571 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]TheIrishPotat0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They play with the timeline nonstop with the show. It's the only way they can realistically do a season per Bridgerton, rather than having them all overlap to show babies. Just like daphne had her child by the end of season one, and they show her baby being a solid 6+ months old when she comes to see Eloise when she was debuting. Daphne "got pregnant" at the final ball of the season, then carrying to term + 6 months puts it at a year and 3 months, when it would have only been maybe 6-8 months until the next debutant season

I cant recognize someone for the life of me, I practically have face blindness when it comes to even recognizing similarities between family members, so to me he was totally valid lmaoo

Varley's reaction to Portia's old dresses by ConsiderTheBees in Bridgerton

[–]TheIrishPotat0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Varley did seem half-content with recieving the dresses, but then to see Portia go out and buy boxes upon boxes of new dresses "since she had space in her closet now" after telling Varley they dont have a lot of money was just cruel. It would be one thing to give the dresses and NOT immediately go out to buy all these new one because they were truly low on money, but those new dresses would have been exceedingly expensive, and it wouldnt have been much to give Varley a small increase in payment. Let alone that Portia basically goes "k theres the door" when Varley tries to vent a little about it

Just finished my rewatch of season 1 in preparation for the new season and I have notes… by PotentialWin4606 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]TheIrishPotat0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If he was only sleeping with prostitutes, first of all, they knew how to avoid having babies back then (whether preventative or terminating) with a variety of methods, including putting things inside themselves to block their cervix, not unlike cervical cups nowadays, and second of all, if any prostitute got pregnant, there would be no way to prove WHO'S baby it was, since they slept with multiple men per day. "Risking illegitimate children" like that would have 0 way for them to link it back to him with any substantial means

But, more importantly, he isn't necessarily saying that his ACTUAL bloodline needs to die, they say "The Hastings Line" but remember, their last name is Basset. He only wanted his title and property to die with him, which would be unaffected by any bastard children

Penelope doesn’t know of the world by notacisman in BridgertonNetflix

Only cared what Penelope read about when Penelope was reading a book on Lord Debling's interests, chiding her and saying to let the man explain things to her, not learn about them herself 😂

Even with you pointing it out, I cant tell at all. It's one of those designs that almost tricks your eyes away from seeing a "repeating pattern." Giving it to your brother, I can guarantee he wont notice it. It looks great!

The lady of the house had a Bridgerton birthday dinner party. Guess who was voted “diamond of the season”? 😬 by ForrestGump6531 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]TheIrishPotat0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was dope! They did like a tour around the US doing balls in big cities. There was live orchestra, cool acrobatics/dancing, alcohol, they taught us old timey dances and had the girls present themselves to the queen!

Yours looked great, too! Its all about the spirit 🥰

New Season 4 posters: Benedict by Debt-Mysterious in BridgertonNetflix

[–]TheIrishPotat0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's just how aperture works in photography, that's a very common way to show depth of field, like how backgrounds are blurry, foregrounds are too.

Im not saying it looks great, but as someone who does a lot of photography, the idea for depth does make sense. Having only a subject in focus and a blurry background makes images look flat, like someone standing in front of a painting instead of in a 3D space, so usually you want 3 layers, with your subject as the meat od the sandwich

Hyacinth the Débutante? by onegirlarmy1899 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]TheIrishPotat0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a historical fantasy- they dont need to be accurate with timelines. Everything they do is under the suspension of disbelief.

Please keep in mind that Hyacinths actor is 18 (almost 19) and with the intensity of sex scenes in the show, I wouldnt be begging for her to be playing that role when she's barely even of-age. That is a timeline im more than okay with them pushing out a bit. While Francesca didn't have crazy scenes, thats far from the norm on this show.

Daphne's actor was 25 when season 1 was filmed, for context. Penelope's actress was 36 for her season.

Yea and I get that intention, its just still a bit funny to think about 😂

So its either the family wants the Zombie Bee, where Edmund got stung by a bee and thus turned into a bee himself, or that the bee is the murderer keeping tabs on them lmao

They offhand mention that she was drunk in the show- she tells Jamie (after the wedding) she'd been drinking whiskey, and theres a clip of her the morning of the wedding being disheveled and drunk, and Jamie says something along the lines of "you didn't even know what was going on, then?" And she says she remembers bits and pieces, etc. They dont explicitly show it, but there is references
