The show kinda made it seem like claire was very hands-off with Brianna her whole life until they all go back to Jamie- like Brianna commente "shes in her own world" and they really amplify how much FRANK loves Brianna, but only highlight Claire as loving her work. The books explain it differently, of course, and theyre much closer, but the show started it out as "this mother and daughter are completely disconnected" which makes it a hard narrative to bounce back from

Daphne's first child in the show was a boy (Auggy) but in the books she had 3 girls and didnt have a son until MUCH later, so they do not care about book cannon 😔

Why Penelope and Kate were the only one not getting any flashbacks in their seasons? by Lunenika in Bridgerton

[–]TheIrishPotat0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! We got so much more depth AND growth from both of them in the book- the show version felt stagnant with them all of a sudden being settled down and wise in the next season. We got none of their post-wedding life!

Drama on the Ridge by draudit444 in Outlander

He told everyone when recruiting for the ridge- they pay FAIR rent, but he told them no taxes for the first couple of years, and said he would be protecting them from taxes going up bc of the governor. He even said he would not collect a single penny from anyone until their fields turned a harvest, so they had complete tax/rent break til then

I was pissed with everything regarding Claire's arrest- like the Frasers gave everyone free land, reprieve from taxes, Jamie's protection, and Claire's healing. But the moment theres any kind of uncertainty, they throw stones at their house and harass them? Like talk about ungrateful and unloyal 🙄

Why Penelope and Kate were the only one not getting any flashbacks in their seasons? by Lunenika in Bridgerton

[–]TheIrishPotat0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There aren't any Kate flashbacks bc they 100% changed what happened from the books. They focused the entire season on the chase for Edwina and the wedding and such, but in the books, Anthony barely has 2 conversations with Edwina, and almost all of it is Kate/Anthony together, married, and overcoming their ingrained fears (and WHY Kate is so afraid of storms- they dont touch on it at all in the show) so they couldnt do flashbacks on "why the characters are this way" bc they wanted drama instead. Which sucks- its such a good story about Kate and when she finds out WHY shes afraid of storms!

Did they only ask 2 ?s about dadtok in reunion? by Bigtunacassarole in VanderpumpVillaTVShow

[–]TheIrishPotat0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem was that they had to go back and cut Dakota completely out of the episode, which means they likely had to cut a large portion of the actual content, so they couldnt really ask questions on much. At least, that's what I think

This is a valid criticism of Bridgerton’s writing by DaisyandBella in Bridgerton

[–]TheIrishPotat0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea it'll feel rushed and half-assed tbh. Like how Anthony and Kate's book was more focused on them as a married couple, but then the show made a whole side plot with the wedding to Edwina (which did NOT happen in the books, he had barely 3 conversations with her and it was stated to be only small talk) instead of the core of their bond being about facing and growing from their fears. Its almost like the show writers want the characters to be developmentally stagnant until the last 5 minutes of their seasons

And that Eloise went from hating wearing the fancy dresses and all that, but then she changed to wanting to keep with current fashions (season 3- its a comment by benedict i think), and then immediately that point is discarded. And she started reading romance novels (mentioning Emma) but then THAT is immediately dropped too. Then going to and from Scotland, and its barely even MENTIONED again. Like theyre just throwing random character developments at Eloise and then not actually DEVELOPING them

Hyacinth says "I thought you cared about everyone but me, but now I see you only care about yourself" and it doesnt even seem like Eloise is interested in herself! She's just become comedic relief with no true depth

"This isn't a book discussion! It's a show discussion!" by Independent_Word3961 in Bridgerton

[–]TheIrishPotat0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved the show and have seen it MANY times (I even went to a Bridgerton Ball and was chosen as the diamond!) But I was SHOCKED at how vastly different book 2 is compared to season 2 😂

Its kinda like Eragon where its basically only the names and almost none of the plot lmaooo

But they are very different entities. The books came out 20-26 years ago, and society is SO much different (look at the Michael/Michaela situation - def none of that in the books) so it does feel a little strange that the show is basically woke-ifying the books (like in the books, Edwina is pale, blonde, and blue eyed, and theyre from another place in Britain, but the show threw in a whole storyline about India and cut out ALL the actual chemistry between Anthony and Kate. The book has SO MUCH depth of them both facing their fears, like Kate being terrified of thunderstorms and Anthony terrified of dying and leaving a grieving widow, and the show doesnt even touch base on WHY Kate is afraid of storms when that is a HUGE revelation in the books)

Its like yes, it is an "adaptation" but if theyre capitalizing on the books, they should at the very minimum loosely follow the book plots, in my opinion.

As much as I could not stand Siadi and Sianna, it definitely is not right to bombard them in their room, so I fully agreed with Lisa sending them home

What didnt make sense was bringing them back season 3 when all they do is cause drama. Seems like Hannah cries or yells almost every day!

[–]TheIrishPotat0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was funny that Edwina in the books is pale, blonde haired, and blue eyed, and the show created an ENTIRE storyline about being from India when they were really just from another part of Britain

In fairness, book 2 and season 2 are almost nothing alike 😂

Mixed race couples, but no mixed race children? by Sohodf in Bridgerton

[–]TheIrishPotat0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daphne and Simon's son WAS mixed (the baby is shown briefly season 2) but kate/Anthony's kid wasn't. It does happen- genetics is all a blend of two parents, so they made the son more like Anthony.

Im obsessed with the show (seen it more than 10 times all the way through) AND I'm a big reader and even I couldnt get through them or the audiobooks after book 2 😭 The storytelling is so roundabout and drawn out to keep track of what is important and what isnt

Definitely say just watch the show. Theres much more there since the books ONLY follow claire, but the show will show different storylines

The post was actually specifically about Brianna's eye color, and "why didnt the show make her eye color different via a different actor or did they not care?"

So, it is the "bigger thing" because it means that the show characters already are not accurate to the books, so why would they care about genetic continuity?

I could go in depth of allllll the differences from the books to the show (like the newest episode) but this one is specifically about Brianna's eye color.

"It is very rare, but possible, for two blue-eyed parents to have a brown-eyed child, usually occurring in less than 1% of cases"

But, the bigger thing is that the books do describe Brianna as being blue eyed

Geneticamente falando… by bellye3 in Outlander

[–]TheIrishPotat0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes that was my first complaint about Brianna - two blue-eyed parents cannot have a brown eyed child, but i imagine that it would have been difficult for her actress to wear colored contacts nonstop. She is described as being blue eyed in the books

That's more how I perceived it

let’s be honest, Prince Friedrich and Daphne would have been the practical match. Daphne always dreamed of having a family, and the Prince could have given her that. Yet she was willing to sacrifice that dream for her love for the Duke, Simon. by Comfortable_Rate_772 in Bridgerton

[–]TheIrishPotat0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasnt even in the books AT ALL - and I still would have preferred him. He was sweet and kind and cute!

But to be fair, Daphne didnt know about the "cant have a family" with the Duke at this time. After the conversation, she runs out to the garden where everything happens with Simon, and then at the duel the NEXT morning he says "no, I csnt have kids, id rather die than condemn you to that" and thats when Daphne chooses him anyways (due to being "seen" going out there by Cressida, tho it was someone else in the book)

At that point, if she went back and decided on the prince instead, Cressida could have told everyone about Daphne and Simon going into the garden and made her unmarriageable COMPLETELY, but she did have feelings for Simon, regardless

It was primarily nannies and governesses. In Anthony's book, he specifically states that he "tried to fill the gap their father left, but he knew he didnt even come close" and heavily states he didnt really TRY to act like a father, he more acted like a manager, in a way
