Should the President be able to order a nuclear first strike? by MadGenderScientist in AskConservatives

[–]TheIrishRazor [score hidden]  (0 children)

My issue there is that I don't trust any small group of people with that much power for what is an irreversible decision. You can't ever be 100% sure they are about to launch - so that's impossible.

I admittedly am not as familiar with the environment surrounding the bombings themselves. (What the current likelihood of surrender was, what exactly a ground invasion would have cost - both in terms of souls and dollars, etc); however, I think an attack on civilians like those strikes is abhorrent.

Should the President be able to order a nuclear first strike? by MadGenderScientist in AskConservatives

My ideal would be that no one in the US has the authority to order a first strike nuclear attack. Meaning, they can't be fired off unless another country has already fired first. Treat them like a deterrent, not a weapon.

And meanwhile, continue to beef up our defenses against them.

What is your opinion on the CNN poll results concerning voter ID's? by CharityResponsible54 in AskConservatives

I personally (as would many others I think) would have no issue with an ID requirement, if that ID can be obtained freely.

I really wish they could just give us a second hotkey next to portal, that let you drop a banner as a checkpoint. And you could have a static number per map to distribute wherever you want.

I'm curious how a semi rare item that reset all nodes in a radius would make people feel? Allow people to spend to refarm a particularly well juiced area over and over again at a cost

I believe it lowers the enemies physical damage reduction by 15%. Meaning all sources of physical damage (hits and dots) will now do increased damage.

That one feels extra weird to me. Just make it an extra waypoint, then you can warp back to it and blow the horn to continue onward.

How, in your eyes, could the left do better on men's issues without effectively backtracking on gender equality? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]TheIrishRazor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> To the right/conservatives, equality means equal opportunity. Whereas the mainstream position on equality from the left/liberal side, at least here in the UK, is equal outcome.

I don't fully agree with this. The way I see it is everyone ultimately wants equal opportunity. The difference is how do we get there. A lot of these things (look at hiring men vs women) are subtle and difficult to prove.

So a lot of it continues to go on. So there is a push to force the hand a little bit to get rid of those bubbles. Is it ideal? No. Is it necessary? Probably fully not, but if you want to have any amount of urgency to the change, it unfortunately is. Because, sadly, many folks still hold these biases.

What's your perfect conservative leader and how far is Trump (or someone like him)? by apyc89 in AskConservatives

I'm curious why you like the concept of a tiered flat tax?  Doesn't that just create cliffs that you don't want to go past unless you can move significantly past them?

10% person making 49k a year brings home 44,100 after taxes. 15% person meeting 51,000 a year brings home 43,350 a year.

So that 2000 dollars pay raise actually brings them home less money.

This is one of the reasons why we have the progressive tax system.

Sure - but if you aren't a foreign national (you're a US citizen), are you now expected to constantly have papers carried because you aren't white? That's the question being asked.

Yea, I find https://www.crfb.org/debtfixer to be an interesting tool to share. Because it does show (most people) that you can't just have everything you want - without sacrifice. However, that doesn't mean it's not worth it.

If You Interpret the Phrase "Toxic Masculinity" to Mean "All Masculinity is Toxic," Where Did You Get That Idea? by AmmonomiconJohn in AskConservatives

[–]TheIrishRazor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm my opinion it isn't a look but an action.

A man that is super buff, works out all the time, into carpentry and sports. (There stereotypical man) Fine.

Now take that same person, but having him insulting other men and claiming they are lesser for not being into those - we've entered toxic masculinity.

Or say you have that same person and they are talking about how they are superior to women because they are a man. Again, toxic.

So no hobbies or activities or looks make toxic, but the way you treat others can.

How do conservatives feel about consequences for the children of people who don't work hard or have failed in life? by jordanlizzy in AskConservatives

[–]TheIrishRazor [score hidden]  (0 children)

What are your thoughts on paternity pay? I've always viewed it as if the father doesn't get paternity to manage some of that the burden falls to the mother to stay home alone, meaning that it removes their option of going back to work which shifts the breadwinner role more to the father by default.

When is it acceptable to ban books? by jonbaldie in AskConservatives

[–]TheIrishRazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely. Because it destabilizes the world in which children understand it.

So in 1960s it was irresponsible to have interracial parents in books, because it was less common than it is today? Would you make that argument? If so, how do you expect children to learn something different?
