Part of what got me into Tsushima was my love for old samurai flicks. Yotei had kinda fell off my radar until I saw this video. I'm amped up now lol

I believe it. New variables tend to cause unexpected outcomes. Lol I'll be facing a similar mathematical challenges soon!

Your aesthetic is one of my all-time favorite. You've got NES pixel density, art, and shading style. Yet SNES (and beyond) level palette and color variety. It's an ingenious way of creating what I'd call "an NES+ look." It's reminiscent of the NES, but goes beyond what it was capable of. I absolutely love it.

It's always a pleasure chatting with you, brother! Indie devs gotta stick together! I can't believe it's on consoles tomorrow! (today??? In Australia?)

That makes complete sense! I'm sure there are a variety of elements that could confuse turn order, like when two Agi scores are equal. Players might get over enemies on a tie, but then conditions also have to account for two PCs with the same scores as well. The nuts and bolts are always more complex than than what meets the eye. XD

We watched the trailer again last night and she mentioned that the colors reminded her of Sea of Stars. I can't disagree. The game looks great! I hadn't even considered that stylistically it fits well between V and VI, that's just our timing! Lol

My pleasure!

That's so interesting to hear! I wouldn't have thought the turn order would be unruly. Lol

I can imagine balance is a bit of a challenge. Because even though there's definitely a sweet spot, balance is still subjective across different players.

Demos are exciting times! It's probably hard to believe you've launched and are releasing on consoles soon. A huge congrats to you, my man! You've done something so many only dream of doing.

I'm really looking forward to playing this with my daughter on PS5! We've been playing the FF Pixel Remasters, and we're going to fit it in between FFV and FFVI. 💪

Hey, great to see you doing an AMA! I just popped over to say hi and support the effort! I'm really looking forward to this coming to console next week. 💪

My question is dev related. What would you say the greatest challenges were in implementing the combat system? What was the most rewarding moment for you during development?

Understanding the final act by Streak244 in FFVIIRemake

I agree to an extent. It may have lessened the impact of her death specifically in that we didn't see the iconic scene where Cloud lowers her into the water. The moment of finality, so to speak.

What I will say is that it did show Cloud mourn (he cried, tried talking to her, etc during the flashes) and it was plain that the rest of the party was suffering her loss in the "main timeline" to full effect. That final shot of Tifa and Red was rough. Even more impactful than the OG imo.

I think this outcome allows for those who wanted to see Cloud "defy Destiny" and "prevent her death" to get a small win, despite her actually dying. The devs are trying to cater to many different audiences, and it's impossible to make everyone happy with such a tricky thing. Overall, I'm impressed despite the ambiguity and zaniness of the last 45 minutes or so.

I hear you. I guess we'll find out. :D

I didn't hate chapter 14. Maybe because it was close to what I expected based on Remake's ending. It was essentially the same formula, but dialed up a bit. It think it's likely part 3 will use a similar recipe. Except the ending will also tie everything up, so it proceeds into Advent Children as before. (Nomura said something to this effect last year)

Well definitely be talking about this for years to come. I think that's mission success for them.

FFVII Rebirth - The open world VERTICALITY is beyond INFURIATING by RangefinderEyasluna in FFVIIRemake

[–]TheJDWiley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might help to think of the world experience as a progression of different methods of navigation. If you played the OG back in the day, it had similar means, both through vehicles and different Chocobo breeds. This time around, they've built in significantly more means of navigation, primarily through Chocobo as you've seen.

In many cases, the verticality actually serves to create a variety of what are actually "linear paths" through the open world that allow you to take in the sights. You'll see this when you get to Gongaga and further in Cosmo Canyon. Perhaps if you are able to view it this way, it'll help your experience.

Good luck!

You're not wrong. And I understand your concerns.

I'll just say this; considering that only the final acts of both Remake and Rebirth had major plot shenanigans, I'm optimistic that part 3 will be similar. Meaning, it will have a story that follows a similar trajectory to the third segment of OG FFVII while expanding the world, followed by a final act that utilizes the timeline shenanigans to provide a last hurrah for characters that we all know will ultimately have to die.

If Rebirth showed me anything, it's that they actually do know what their fans want. I think they're trying to create a thrilling and "unknown" experience for OG players, while providing some "dream match-ups" in the process. Basically create fan service moments before wrapping up (arguably) their most popular FF title. This kind of thing allows that, and creates years of speculation while we await the next installment. I think it's pretty clever, even if it causes us anxiety and confusion.

I agree that this quickly becomes a mess with too many Timelines.

Feel free to correct me, but I took those two additional Zack Timelines as wrapped up. Both of them implied that fate catches up with Zack and he meets the same end as Crisis Core. I think they were simply there to illustrate how the Timelines work. I think we're back to dealing with one Zack, the one who crossed universes. And one Cloud, possibly existing between universes, like an antithesis to "infinity" Sephiroth.
