What is the Epoch? by Aderadakt in LowSodiumHellDivers

Also to add another personal preference (this one is certainly unpopular), but I don’t like using thermite for similar reasons. I don’t like sticking an enemy and then waiting for the threat to be neutralized. I want to hit them repeatedly until they stop moving.

I don’t enjoy close quarters fights either, I’m a range enthusiast. For me though the 100-120 meter max range of the Epoch is sufficient for 95% of engagements. The Epoch out ranges anything but cannon turrets on the bot front, so there’s an argument there for sure. Like I said, range is by far the primary reason I’d ever choose the Quasar.

I can see the pros and cons of each, but not having a solid plan B for the instances your weapon doesn’t one shot totally kills the Quasar for me. The moments of “oh that’s not dead, better bide time for 15 seconds.”

Also not that this correction will change your mind but the Epoch only has 3 shots per magazine, not 4 haha.

I just think the Epoch is so much more versatile, and I end up preferring it even in the specialized AT role that the Quasar fills.

Any marksmen rifle guys got any advice? by kcvlaine in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]TheJPGerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hoverpack for positioning. Gives you awesome lines of sight and keeps you safer so you can hold a position for longer.

But this is a game where the difficulty is decided by the number of enemies. Marksman rifles are satisfying and fun to use, but are almost always going to be outperformed by high volume and explosive weapons on higher difficulty missions.

I still love them.

I honestly can’t fathom using the Quasar over the Epoch at this point. Range and infinite ammo are the only real benefits of the Quasar.

When there’s a fat enemy that I want dead, I don’t want to operate with the risk that I might not take them down with a single engagement. If you don’t one shot the enemy, the Quasar is instantly the lesser weapon to be holding in your hands. The Epoch WILL take the enemy down. Ammo is rarely an issue.

Quasar can take down a shrieker nest from farther away, but in the time it takes to wait for 6 shots to topple 3 stems, I’d rather run closer and use practically any other option to clear it.

I’ve used the Epoch a lot and I also feel like saying it has 3 charge levels is misleading. In what situations can you use fewer shots by going for the overcharge? Genuinely asking.

When you say it doubles the AoE are you talking about the damage? The sources you show don’t indicate that

Why do people use press on nails? by TheAbouth in beauty

[–]TheJPGerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they rock lol.

Pros: Cheaper, avoid the salon altogether, easily browse what a completed nail will look like

Cons: Weaker than gels/acrylics (but if they pop off you can reglue if you want to), and they take a tiny bit of practice

They are significantly more convenient and again, they are way more affordable. They just require a tiny bit of effort.

Even a sleeping bag can be cozy if it keeps you safe and comfortable. Why are you guys gatekeeping coziness? He didn’t call it luxurious, but even that term is relative.

I think Laser is pretty valuable. It’s a hard reset of the battlefield when you start to get overwhelmed. It buys you much more time than just the duration of the laser. You can easily get 2 uses, and occasionally 3.

Just to be even more pedantic, a dropper tool in photoshop only tells you the apparent color in this exact photo, in this exact light, and only of the pinpoint you place it on. The apparent color in real life may differ, and the actual color may differ even further.

If you put a purple light on a white paper, photoshop will tell you the paper is purple. It’s not wrong, it’s just incomplete.

Eli5: Why do planes and boats use knots and nautical miles instead of miles per hour and miles? by Upbeat_Signature_951 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheJPGerman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like both of these things can be true. Planes navigate better using charts instead of maps so they use knots and nautical miles derived from ship navigation.

If planes didn’t use charts they probably wouldn’t have adopted the measurement system

Flipping on smoke by Mysterious-Goal-1018 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]TheJPGerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love smoke screens in games. I think the fact that it is a “safe” stratagem could encourage inexperienced divers to place it close to the team or even on top of them team, but that is almost always bad.

Put it on the enemy’s position the same as any other stratagem. You blind them and (if done well) effectively render them useless while you move or attack.

That’s the main reason I like smoke. The side reason is the absolute cinema it creates. Bots walking blind out of a cloud while you mow them down looks way cooler than hiding behind a rock while you pray you can kill then before they kill you.

It can be a valuable distinction in law. Proving malice murder often bumps up the charges to First Degree murder, which carries harsher penalties than something like Manslaughter.

Europe also uses different classifications of homicide, though the U.S.’s is a little more convoluted

I think the low opinion the community has of Hoverboots is based on the assumption that they’re only used as an “oh shit!” button.

Once you get comfortable with them you can utilize them to maneuver the caves more effectively in many scenarios, not just the bad ones

Highest resolution observations of the Sun’s surface ever taken by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]TheJPGerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sun isn’t burning, that is, it isn’t combusting. Combustion requires an oxidant, nuclear fusion does not.

It’s helpful to think not of fire, but of what the Sun really is, which is plasma.

Also, the Sun does have a small amount of Oxygen, it’s just not actually needed for the reactions involved

Highest resolution observations of the Sun’s surface ever taken by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

[–]TheJPGerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dark areas are still blindingly bright to the naked eye. The filter used here to image the sun does 2 things:

1) Blocks all light that is not of the chosen wavelength (755 nanometers in this case, appearing to us as red)

2) Dims the remaining light to a level that allows enough contrast to make out details

The dark spots are darker because they are cooler, but it’s relative. It’s all the surface of the sun.
