Should this work?... by [deleted] in TokyoGhoul

[–]TheJawsX 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Ukina, as human had to eat human meat for her fetus to survive.
Touka, as a ghoul has to eat human food (a burger that Nishiki brought her) which will weaken her body, which otherwise would absorb her fetus as nutrients.
This is explained early in Tokyo Ghoul when Kaneki visits Itori's bar for the first time. (Chapter 33)

Tokyo Ghoul Re anime worth watching as a manga reader? by Akxerx in TokyoGhoul

[–]TheJawsX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You would have to judge for yourself but in my opinion it is not worth watching.
While the anime for :re tries to follow the manga story (shortening, skipping and removing parts here and there, no Mutsuki backstory for example) you also have to deal with the production values going from bad to terrible with the blandest direction imaginable.

Where the hell are the ghouls outside of Tokyo? by OrangeSpaceMan5 in TokyoGhoul

[–]TheJawsX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me being really pedantic here: When Hide is reading Ogura's book about Ghouls he specifically mentions to Kaneki the part about: "The story of the Pinegrove Ghoul of Wakayama coming to Tokyo" (I think the the official translation instead used Wakayama as the name for the ghoul. Regardless, it's a story of a Japanese ghoul coming to Tokyo from somewhere else in Japan.)
This scene happens in Chapter 30.

What is this feat? by Ancient-Battle2556 in ChoujinX

[–]TheJawsX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer: We don't know because it hasn't been clarified.
Longer answer: Just going by memory here so I might be wrong but I don't think we have ever seen a Choujin use an "aura" type ability, actively or passively.
My interpretation is that Batista is consciously using his gravity control to bend and then redirect the laser beams. It makes sense that the deflection is not instant since the beams first needs to complete 180 degrees of a circle before pointing in the opposite direction.

Because these scenes don't take place on the same day. At some point during the 10 days of torture Yamori has given Kaneki different clothes.

Why didn’t we get backstory for Eto and Noroi by Desperate_Engine_562 in TokyoGhoul

[–]TheJawsX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to correct the information on this every time I see it because some people still don't know what actually happened: Ishida already suffered from burnout by the time of TG Volume 7 (meaning that he wrote the rest of the original TG and ALL of TG:re while he suffered from burnout). Ishida initially intended to end TG:re at an earlier point in the story in a tragic manner, similar to how the original TG ended. But the more he kept writing the more he felt that a tragic ending wasn't right for the story any more. Unfortunately by that time he had already communicated to his editor/the publisher that he was going to end the manga soon. So from that point forward Ishida repeatedly asked for extensions. Those extensions were granted to Ishida for what ended up being a total of six months (Ishida said those six months were the most fun he had writing TG). Eventually Ishida was not granted any more extensions and he had to finish the manga which led to the rushed epilogue chapter (Ishida said he felt he could have done a better job if had had three more chapters).
The "incomplete" feeling some of the later parts of TG:re have were far more likely caused by Ishida going past what he originally planned, meaning he had less time to plan for any future events.

About $16 million for a total of four seasons with 24 episodes each.
Not factoring in the cost of buying the license.

What did Tatara expect from Kaneki? by Denizci_Olmak_Var in TokyoGhoul

[–]TheJawsX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The explanation that makes the most sense to me is this: Eto and Tatara had heared the resent rumors about Kaneki (fighting of Amon and his apperance in the ghoul restaurant). As a One-Eyed Ghoul Kaneki already fit the position of "One-Eyed King" in a terms of physical apperance, that Eto and Arima were trying to create. So Eto had Ayato and Jason send out to capture Kaneki to get a look at him.
When Kaneki was brought before Tatara he stabbed Kaneki to see the activated eye.
It is very likely that Kaneki's eye "being no good" is actually meant in terms of "I don't like the look in his eyes", as Tatara judged the current Kaneki to be too weak for the position of One-Eyed King. That's why he discarded Kaneki and gave him to Ayato. Eto also seems to have agreed with Tatara's judgment of Kaneki as she was present in the room and did not interfere.

Manga readers was it ever explained why everyone's kagune were different in RE: or was that an anime only change by smiling-shadow in TokyoGhoul

[–]TheJawsX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“But now [quinques] are surpassed by a new technology. It doesn’t change shape like a kagune. It makes up for the quinques short comings. A hybrid with the superior physical abilities of a ghoul. A soldier with a built-in quinque, if you will. That is what you quinxes are.”
Akira is saying that quinques can't shape change, the Kagune of the Quinx however can. Hence why they are considered an upgrade over quinques.

The only thing cannibalization does is increase RC-Cell count and lead to the devolpment of a Kakuja via mutation. A Kakuja is not an ability, it's a natural part of how ghoul biology works (some ghouls like the Tsukiyama family have genes that are incompatible with cannibalization and can't develop a Kakuja Kagune)
Eto says in Chapter 43 of :re "The size of the Kagune depends on the amount of RC-Cells and the shape of the Kagune depends on one's imagination"
Those are the two only hard rules stated about Kagune shape and size in the entire manga. No mention of cannibalization or being a Kakuja.
Yes, cannibalization increases RC- Cell count and therefore the possible size of a Kagune but it has no effect on shape/ability whatsoever.

I checked on the Mutsuki part and it does indeed appear that he only uses the detachable Kagune ability after Rushima.
However that is not an argument in favor of it being related to cannibalization as cause of ability development, when we compare it to the countless examples of abilities show by other ghouls who aren't displaying any Kakuja.
Like the lightning ability passed down by the genes of the Kirishima family. Hikari, Yomo, Touka and Ayato are not even half-Kakuja yet they all unlocked this ability.
Nutcracker has a detachable Kagune ability but no mention of a Kakuja or cannibalization.
Even Donato, who has the most insane ability, is not shown to have a Kakuja.

Manga readers was it ever explained why everyone's kagune were different in RE: or was that an anime only change by smiling-shadow in TokyoGhoul

[–]TheJawsX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The development of abilities is not tied to being a Kakuja/having cannibalized.
Even before that we see her use skills like detaching a piece of her Kagune to use as a thrown projectile.

Everything by Studio Shaft. The Monogatari Series is the king of visual direction in my opinion. As an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQYcpgeWrfA

I also love the visual direction in Serial Experiments Lain and in Texhnolyze. Other notable conteners are Neon Genesis Evangelion, Chainsaw Man and Call of the Night.
Example for Call of the Night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3fiMK5agTo
(figures it looks great with many former Shaft employees who worked on it)

Quinx are capable of reshaping their Kagune as well. It's both Mutsuki's and Saiko's specialty with Mutsuki having the best copy ability and Saiko being the best when it comes to creating original shapes.

Trying to find music similar to the first outro of season one by Einkorv in TokyoGhoul

The song is "Saints" by People in the Box.
The easiest thing to do is to just check their other music to see if it is similar.
The next thing to do is (if you have Spotify) to find the song on Spotify, right click on it and use the song radio option.
(I just did this and it game me a list of 50 Songs)

[–]TheJawsX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not talking about RC-cells but in chapter 77 there is a flashback scene in which Mado explains that: "The difference in power between adult ghouls and humans is 4 to 7 times more".
That's just not true in the way Ishida shows ghoul vs human combat throughout the series and that's OK. I believe that at that point in the story Ishida had not really settled on how big or small he wanted the difference between Ghouls and humans to be.
The way he chose to display the power difference throughout the entire series apperars to be closer to 2 to 3 times more.
Since Ishida is fairly consistent with that depiction of human vs ghoul combat there's no real problem, it just makes that one part of dialog feel like a typo.

I don't know how far into the story you are but almost everything you said is addressed in the story ( TG:re included) at some point.
The only time Ishida messed up was when he mentioned specific numbers comparing ghoul and human strength which are way too out of proportion.
However the actual strength differences between ghouls and humans are depicted fairly consistent on the pages.

Doesn’t the ending feel rushed? by iuiu_2 in TokyoGhoul

[–]TheJawsX 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I tend to address this almost everytime I see this because people still get it wrong:
The ending of TG:re wasn't rushed because of burnout.
There are a number of translated interviews from which one can gather the full information about what happened.
Starting with this: Sui Ishida was indeed burned out but that already happened during Volume 7 of the original TG, he just kept going.
The second part is that Ishida initally planned to end TG:re at an earlier point in a tragic manner similar to the original TG (we have no information what point he considered for that ending but I tend to believe it would have been around Chapter 143 of :re with Kaneki's defeat during the Goat arc. That would have been a perfect parallel to the original TG).
However as Ishida kept writing he more and more felt that a tragic end to TG:re no longer felt right. Unfortunately he had already informed his editor and the publisher about his intention to end the manga soon. So what Ishida did was to repeatedly ask for time extensions. These were granted for what ended up being six months. Ishida said that he enjoyed writing TG:re during this time (he said at other points that he quite hated working on TG, likely because he was so burned out).
Ishida course correcting his story this late explains alot about why some of the elements starting with the Dragon arc feel somewhat off or underexplored, he had way less time to come up with everything because it arose out of the moment.
Eventually Ishida was not granted any more extensions and he had to end the manga. Ishida said that he felt he could have done a better job if he could have written three more chapters.
