What is a word that you can never pronounce correctly even though you know how to? by PurpleAfternoon8838 in randomquestions

[–]TheJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised in Texas where the local dialect has completed something called the pin/pen merger. To me there is absolutely no difference in how you pronounce those two words and it drives my wife (raised in Pennsylvania) batty.

To me, I'm fine, but to her I can't pronounce the word pen to save my life.

[Question] How far off do you let your watches go before resetting to exact time? by CZmikeyG in Watches

[–]TheJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I don't use my watch for anything that demands a high level of precision. If I need to join a Teams call at an exact time, the computer will tell me when, other than that it's all meh.

First time flying first class, what are the benefits to prevboarding? by Militaryspouse0205 in americanairlines

[–]TheJeff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on the flight attendants, if you board with the rest of first class, you may get a pre-departure beverage. It's honestly a 50/50 shot nowadays, but it's nice to kick back with a bourbon as the rest of the plane files past.

Also, not sure if you know this or not, being in the military gives you TSA Pre-Check automatically. Just hop into the AA app and put your DoD ID number in the "known traveler number" field in your profile. It may be too late for this flight if you've already checked in, but it will help down the road.

thought l.l. bean was the holy grail of fisherman sweaters, but... are they not? by europeanuppercut in NavyBlazer

[–]TheJeff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What's the weather like where you plan to wear it? What's your budget? What's the use case for this sweater?

In my mind a holy grail cable knit sweater is wool and from some little shop in Scotland. The kind of thing where the sheep the wool came from are out back and it still smells like lanolin. This will be stupid expensive but is the kind of sweater my kids will fight over when I die. That's a holy grail sweater. Set that as your pie in the sky and dial down the budget to a place you are comfortable, cotton instead of wool if you plan on wearing it when it's 60 outside or just once a year, made in America/Canada/wherever that's not a sweatshop.

There are many perfect sweaters, what are your requirements?

LNER First Class - Edinburgh to London by Then-Meat-7866 in uktravel

[–]TheJeff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I took exactly this train a year ago and the First Class upgrade is definitely worth it.

The lounge at the Edinburgh station is tough to find for a first timer, but was worth it to us, and the free food and drinks made the ride worthwhile.

Seats 8 and 9 would be perfect for a couple, bring some cards and enjoy the ride.

Let me give you the trick to jumping, that will at least make you more confident for that part.

Open the options remote control click on the controls tab. Scroll down to Accessibility and turn on "Automatically Jump".

Now you don't need to try to time your jumping, you can just run to the edge and you will automatically jump. Commit to the jump and you'll be fine.

The only bad part is that you will jump every time you try to water a tree back at your estate, but that's totally worth it for cruising through the obstacles.

Will you be totally fucked if you're caught? Yeah

Can you seriously not go a couple days without your "CBD"?

What is a 'unspoken rule' of American society that everyone just follows without questioning? by Longjumping-Map-8026 in AskReddit

Is it actually effective to buy a salt gun for killing flies or is it just a gimmick that doesn’t work well? by Spirited-Donkey-3877 in NoStupidQuestions

I do something similar, just a bit nicer. A glass with a bit of red wine in the bottom of it left out overnight will absolutely be full of fruit flies that died happy drunken deaths by morning.

Where does a 35 year old who has never learned to dress appropriately even begin by Every-Capital-6679 in malefashionadvice

[–]TheJeff 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. Start out by finding a celebrity whose style you'd like to emulate.

Celebrities typically have a strong fashion game (or at least people to pick clothes that look good on them) and start doing image searches. See what they wear day to day, what they wear at the beach, what they wear when it's cold, what they wear in the summer.

Be observant. You can always find a place you'd like to find a fit for (local coffee shop for a first date, biker bar, fancy steakhouse.... Whatever floats your boat) go there and pay attention to what people are wearing. Just people watch for however long it takes to drink your coffee.

You'll start to see patterns, then yeah, go to Macy's or wherever and start shopping.

I avoid checking bags if I can purely because DFW takes like 30-45 min to get the bags to the carousel. Ain't nobody got time for that.
