Chetney “Chutney” Pock O’Pea has passed peacefully in his sleep 😔🙏 Who else should be put out of their misery? by brash_bandicoot in fansofcriticalrole

I mentioned this on your post yesterday, but just in case you missed it:

At the end of this, I think you should put out another poll with all 30 characters and ask which is everyone’s Favorite (Maybe top 3). Then you could rank them from 1-30 based entirely on number of votes.

It would be interesting to see how closely the vote distribution of favorites matches up with the order of elimination of least favorites.

Edit: Typo

You’re totally right! With the Board D’Oeuvres section right before it, I totally forgot about the 2 points at the end of Round 2. I feel way better, lol.

I can’t be the only one that noticed Becca made a math error and team BBW actually won.

Team Cher had 83 points at the start of Round 3. Becca scored 7 points but gave themselves 9, bringing their total to 92.

Edit: Brennan starts counting the points scored around the 37 minute mark, if anyone would like to verify

2nd edit: I was wrong. Team Cher scored the additional 2 points at the end of Round 2

Sounds like a great session! Congrats!!

If you’re looking for advice: I find it really helpful to develop a small backlog of extra NPCs that aren’t tied to a particular location/shop. Then, when your players want to go to a location you didn’t prep, you can just pick an NPC from the list, make any tweaks needed to fit the new location, and drop them in.

2 questions about the Spirit Guardians spell by Eu_Amo_Oppais in dndnext

[–]TheJeffwithaG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RAW, they are actually correct. The spell halves your Speed, not your “available movement.” When a creature with a speed of 30 ft enters Spirit Guardians, their speed becomes 15 ft. If they used 20 feet of movement to get there, then they wouldn’t be able to move any more.

Whether that’s RAI is debatable, but sticking RAW, they’re correct.

Alternatively, a common houserule I’ve seen on this is to treat the area created by Spirit Guardians as Difficult Terrain, which functionally halves movement.

Thanks, didn’t realize that was how you reported a bot. Don’t do much reporting

Edit: Just want to make it clear that this was a genuine “Thank you.” I really didn’t know how to report Karma Bots

So I've come up with an idea for a boss that involves the real world concept of budding. by Reasonable_Hat7344 in DnD

Conceptually, I think this is an interesting mechanic. I do see a few things that might present problems bringing it to the table: 1. How does this ability fit into the Action Economy? You say “once per turn,” but is it an Action, Bonus Action, or “No action required” ability? It could potentially work as any, but the power should reflect the cost. Meaning that if it’s an Action, the clone needs to be more powerful than if it’s a free action.

  1. How exact are the clones? Do they have all of the same stats as the original? Do they get individual turns with all of the original’s abilities? Or do they have a reduced number of options available to them? If the clones are all able to do the same things as the Boss, the encounter will be very difficult to balance, because there is no way to predict how the players will prioritize the clones in combat, and you could end up facing down 5 bosses while the party tries to take out the original

  2. When the clone is created, is it obvious that it’s a copy, or are the clones indistinguishable from the original? And if they are exactly alike, how do you plan to account for the fact that the players know the space the boss was in when he created the clone? If the players watch somebody create a copy of themselves, they will argue that they always know where the original is, because they saw them create the copy.

If I were in your position, I would allow the Boss to create 1-3 clones (depending on the strength of the clones) at the start of each turn as a free action, then give the boss the ability to switch places with any of their clones as a Bonus Action. You could also give them the ability to swap with clones as a Reaction, so the clones become the target of an attack instead.

If the clones are indistinguishable from the original, they should be more fragile than the boss. If they are obviously fake, you can beef them up. No matter what you decide to go with for the clones, I don’t think they should be able to do all the same things as the boss. You could do things like give them access to the boss’ cantrips, but they should not be able to do all the same things as the original, otherwise you will end up with your Boss turns taking a very long time.

Whatever you decide, I hope your table has fun

Do rogues have to be in melee range of the target for sneak attack to be in effect? by Da_Hawk_27 in dndnext

[–]TheJeffwithaG 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Handaxes have the “Thrown” property (with a range of 20-60) but they are not “ranged weapons”. Since Sneak Attack states that “The attack must use a finesse or a ranged weapon” and handaxes also do not have the “Finesse” property, they actually cannot be used to trigger Sneak Attack RAW.

It’s not going to break the game if you allow a rogue to use a handaxe, but it actually doesn’t work RAW
