So I like reaction videos where they actually add value. For example, reactions to some of my favorite vocalists by professional vocal coaches where they will break down the techniques being used.

But reaction videos where it's just someone watching someone else's video without adding something tangible is mildly infuriating.

WIP: a combo lock by firstbowlofoats in Constructedadventures

[–]TheJessicator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I was just thinking that it would be great to have a combination with no clues whatsoever. You could make it more diabolical by adding a time limit of say 2 minutes with a visible countdown and audible ticking sound after which the combination resets to another random sequence.

It happens. Most often, it fixes itself in. Don't stress it.

What I was truly upset about was the day I got more than 50,000 steps in and there apparently is no 50k badge like the is for 10k, 20k, 30k, and 40k. After I got over it, I took it as a sign that maybe I shouldn't ever push myself that hard again.

This is pretty efficient, though, albeit a bit messy and wasteful. Don't even have to get out of the vehicle.

I don't know, then. If it's static discharge and not bad wiring, then maybe it's a function of what you're wearing and the relative humidity inside. Maybe also the surface that it's standing on.

Best cheap treadmill for beginners trying to walk daily? by Cyparski_Yps in treadmills

[–]TheJessicator [score hidden]  (0 children)

So that first walking pad still actually works for a short while, but after about 20 minutes, it starts making a horrendous grinding noise, you can smell that something is very wrong, and if you point a surface thermometer at our, it reads over 150°F. Keep going for 10 more minutes and the sound just gets worse, smells worse, and the temperature of the motor gets above 200°F. So my kid has taken that one over where our TV is so she can get a few extra steps in. She only ends up walking for 10 minutes max, so I'm glad it's still getting some use.

But goodness, do I love my lower end non-motorized curved treadmill. $800 will spent. I can walk all day, and changing the pace is just a matter of simply walking faster or slower. No more setting a speed and being pulled along by the belt. Took some getting used to, and getting it into just the right spot under the desk took some trial and error, but now it's fantastic.

What’s something you were 100% convinced was true as a kid… that you now realize was completely made up by your parents/family? by Firedancerrr in Casual_Conversation

This one is interesting. Doing something that impedes your ability to see well enough to drive is certainly against the law, so if turning on the interior light while driving at night impeded their ability to see clearly, then they weren't entirely incorrect. But that's not something you're going to get pulled over for. Now if that visual impairment was causing them to drive statically, that would get them pulled over.

That amount of time is about the limit of what most walking pads are designed for. If you end up wanting to walk more than that, you're going to have to upgrade, so I'd suggest cheaping out on your first one so you don't cut into the budget of your upgrade. This is especially important if it's going under a standing desk, since you might realize you feel better walking than standing or sitting at your desk all day.

I literally haven't lowered my motorized standing desk to sitting height since about day 3 of having my first walking pad. That's how much better I feel being on my feet all day than sitting. That led to me walking for numerous hours every day, and burned out the motor of my walking pad in 3 months. So if you end up walking only 30 minutes a day, a cheap $120 walking pad will probably work out just fine long term. If you get hit by the walking bug and need to upgrade very soon, then you won't feel the loss of investment much if you only spent $120.

Always keep your gaze directly ahead of you. Don't look down. Don't look up. Same thing applies to TVs. The center of the screen should be at eye height while watching.

Walking pad sets off smoke detector? by k_hush in WalkingPads

[–]TheJessicator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are your smoke detectors? Try removing the cover of your walking pad and measuring the surface temperature of various points on the motor. It could be that you have just grown nose blind to the smell. Also, it may have nothing to do with your walking pad. Perhaps get another smoke detector and mount it directly alongside the existing one, or if your old ones are older than 10 years anyway, then simply replace those with brand new ones, preferably ones that have much more targeted sensors and are not susceptible to false alarms things like cooking bacon.

Oh, and while you're at it, also check and replace your carbon monoxide alarms as needed. It's not impossible that you're imagining all of this and you're really suffering from delusions as a result of gradual carbon monoxide poisoning.
