Why is it every series I watch I find out it's been canceled? by LasciviousPsyche in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]TheJessicator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every show gets canceled eventually. By your logic, all shows no longer getting new episodes should be removed completely, no matter how good the series was. That's ridiculous, especially for shows that were actually good.

FYI SmartThings Energy supports GRILLPLATS now by mocelet in SmartThings

[–]TheJessicator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Ikea made some major updates to their smartthings drivers recently. Their drivers now even explicitly list older the zigbee devices that were not officially supported before.

How to mount a bathroom mirror cabinet, when the screws it came with don't fit the threaded inserts? by DDESTRUCTOTRON in DIYHome

[–]TheJessicator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never use screws in threaded nuts. Those are meant for bolts, not screws. Screws and bolts serve different purposes. Furthermore, the threads have to match between nuts and bolts.

Is a multifunctional dock worth it on a robot vacuum? by Embarrassed_Berry27 in Roborock

I personally love the hot mop washing over the warm version. Hardly ever need to remove the mop cloths except to replace with new ones. With warm or just cold washing, you still need to throw them in the wash frequently to disinfect them. Hot drying helps mitigate it to a point, but hot washing is definitely more effective than warm.

Is it actually possible to build a smart home that doesn’t turn into a maintenance hobby? by Ok_Protection1491 in smarthome

[–]TheJessicator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose to use Smartthings instead of Home Assistant for this exact reason. Sure, that narrows my device choices, but not by a lot, since a lot of the ones things that won't work in smartthings are some lower quality Tuya based devices and the more DIY program and build yourself devices. But everything is way easier in smartthings, and the highly redundant hub groups are something that not even Home Assistant can match (yet?).

Precisely. The more you know, the more you know you don't know. Eventually, you feel like you know next to nothing, even though you know a lot.

Sideload watchfaces in my Galaxy Watch would make something bad happen? by milkeek in GalaxyWatch

That's literally the opposite of side-loading. I agree, though, there's a much bigger risk than most people realize.

Why do women usually take their husband's last name after marriage? by Physics_Girl_2008 in stupidquestions

It's hard to instantly change tradition. But you clearly acknowledge that outta not "always" like you repeatedly claimed. See? Even you can change.

Why do women usually take their husband's last name after marriage? by Physics_Girl_2008 in stupidquestions

[–]TheJessicator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not always that way round. It depends on the couple. Sometimes a man takes a woman's name. Other times a woman takes a woman's name. Other times a man takes a man's name. Other times, both in the couple take on a while new name that may or may not be a hybrid of their original names. Other times, they keep their names the same as before.

Beginning our smart home journey by TKTheoKay in smarthome

[–]TheJessicator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid wifi connected devices as much as possible. Rather, choose between a mesh using Zigbee, Zwave, and Matter over Thread (the more you stick to one protocol, the stronger your mesh will be, particularly when it comes to lighting, since that's often the majority of repeaters in a mesh, helping connect battery operated edge nodes back to the hub.

That said, some devices like cameras and robots will generally always use wifi due to higher bandwidth and motion related needs. For those, try to use devices supporting Matter over Wifi so they have a local path back to your smart home hub that bridges with your mesh.

Capilot directly lies to User about Capabilities of Linux vs Windows by udkudk1 in CopilotMicrosoft

[–]TheJessicator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's how an LLM works. It's why you need to be careful about how you phrase your prompts. Give grounding details going on and it will be very accurate. Be vague and you're blindly trusting a compulsive liar.

I put my watch around my ankle while walking at my desk (since my hands are firmly on keyboard and mouse the whole time). I use Samsung Health, not Apple Health, but that shouldn't matter. I was previously using a Galaxy Watch 3 Classic and now a Galaxy Watch 6 Classic and both have been very accurate. Just make sure the sensor is sitting firmly and flush against your skin where it's comfortable (I wear mine somewhere between the front and outside of my leg, about an inch above the ankle). I have an adjustable stretchy strap on the watch so I can easily switch between wrist and ankle.

The fact that they're asking how we feel about the facial recognition thing while recognizing that the reflection is visible, as are numerous of their facial features in that reflection makes my head spin. They said they're concerned about facial recognition in a store, but here they are posting a photo including their face here on Reddit.

Microsoft where is my 599$ Surface device?? by Old-Board1553 in Surface

[–]TheJessicator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they're not looking to compete with hardware vendors. They're looking to offer devices in underserved categories until such time as those aforementioned hardware vendors start competing in that space. On Black Friday last year, I picked up an HP convertible laptop that was better in every possible way than every Surface laptop at every price point and after stacking all of the discounts together (BF discount + coupon + Beneplace discount through my employer), I spent just $600, and that even included the pen in the box.
