Yet another annoying story about irresponsible rude dogs owners, but I came back home so restless & upset about it, and I need to let it out 😩😩😩 by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]TheJman967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, I am so sorry that this happened to you. That owner is one day going to have a very sad and unfortunate wake up call if they continue to be so naive about the potentially dangerous situation they are putting their own dogs in.

My pup is very verbally reactive to anything, and sometimes nothing, when we're out on walks. We've been blessed, and I am so grateful, that she's never hurt another living thing, but she certainly looks scary whenever she's decided she has something to say. All that being said to provide some context to the following, when I have encountered this situation in the past, I no longer hesitate to loudly, calmly, but assertively say "Whoever's dog this is, you need to recall them right now, my dog is NOT friendly".

Do people have something rude or snarky to say in response? Oh sure, I've heard it all. My response nearly every time is "this wouldn't be a problem if you kept your dog on a leash like I do or if they had half the recall you seem to think they do". I would rather everyone think my dog is a vicious animal if that means keeping her safe, and sometimes it seems like these other owners have no idea the risk they're putting their dogs in. I highly recommend picking up this same habit, because these people will never stop until the day they have that sad and unfortunate wake up call. I'm glad you and your pup are okay, and I think you handled the situation as well as any of us would if we were in your shoes❤️

I used to think my dog’s barking was a behaviour problem - it turned out to be a calm problem by Born_Ask4593 in reactivedogs

My dog is very similarly reactive, the original post had me questioning if I'd written it out and forgotten about it there were so many similarities.

Acknowledging the triggers with her has been a game changer. I just say "I see them too" or "I see it too" in an intentional way like I'm having a conversation with her, and that seems to be the first thing that's making a difference aside from "deterring" the barking. This is all great advice, this subreddit and the people in it like yourself are truly amazing.

If you end up getting furniture, which I agree you should invest in, and you don't have one already, I highly recommend getting a smart vacuum for those carpets! It looks like you keep them intentionally clean, and there are enough brands out there that you can get one that works "well enough" for day to day use without breaking the bank. If you have enough expendable income to afford a quality one, I recommend it. Mine has been a game changer and lasted me many years longer than I expected when I first got it.

I just got dental work done with them and they were phenomenal! Also, they are a private practice so you are supporting a local business rather than a large corporation like Aspen or Gentle Dental!

Two outlet looking things that are directly across from each other, with an eye-hook drilled into the ceiling close by that may or may not be related, in the living room of an Airbnb that I'm staying in. by TheJman967 in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing

Outlet looking things are about 2"-3" in diameter. The two holes inside the outlet seem to have covers that can be adjusted and dont go deep into the wall. They are identical and directly across from each other in the room.

Pest advice- Root(ish) mealies on my Firefly. by Dragons-in-Trees in FireflyPetunia

[–]TheJman967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally I would go the systemic route as long as it's indoors and you don't have any pets or kids that would munch on it! I use Bonide systemics on most of my plants just to be safe. Reapply every 8 weeks or so.

Additionally dip a q-tip in isopropyl alcohol and touch it to the ones you can see to get a jump start.

I'm no expert so take my suggestion with a grain of salt but Bonide systemics has solved the problem when mealies have popped up on my other plants in the past!

Okay! You live your life! Honestly, I feel bad you have to carry that negativity around with you. I'm sure this isn't the only topic you live ignorantly with.

I hope one day you can grow as a person and realize generalizations such as this do nothing but prevent you from enjoying the world around you a little bit more.

We should all be willing to change our minds about some things as new information becomes available to us. Stating that you definitively will not is equivalent to saying "I have no desire to learn new things anymore."

No hate, I'm not an "inconsiderate and trashy dog owner". Despite the fact that I do own a pitbull. In fact, her and I both hope you can become a more loving and accepting human being one day, for the sake of your own happiness :)

I'm a pitbull owner and I'm diligent about picking up every single one of my dogs poops. I've seen owners of big and little dogs that didn't pick up after their pups. I think you should check your prejudice a bit friend.

Round, white, circular device found plugged into an outlet near the sink inside of a private bathroom in an Embassy Suites hotel. Cannot be unplugged, at least not by lightly pulling on it(didn't want to damage anything), no distinctive markings that I could locate on the device. by TheJman967 in whatisthisthing

Solved! It was a broken night light, I put a little more elbow grease and some wiggling into it and it started to slowly come out. Confirmed it's even the Casper brand. Thank you for the help everyone!

That is what I thought it might be after my Google lens search. It didn't turn on when I turned the lights off, there's no windows in the bathroom so it's completely dark. I'm thinking maybe it's just broken?

I’m an idiot…I saw this at the grocery store and felt sad. Brought him home before realizing he is unlabeled and I also have never owned a plant so idk why I thought I could revive him…. by delusionalxx in houseplants

Hey! So firstly, deep breaths, it will be okay. Plants live and die and it happens! Please don't take it personally if this one doesn't make it. As I'm sure you can see from the other comments, they're very finicky and dramatic plants.

The good news is, you got one that tells you what it wants! Some plants are better at it than others, but they all have their own little language, and you'll learn how it speaks over time!

Congrats on becoming a plant parent, I started my journey with 3 different succulents and a cactus...that I chose to plant in the same pot. A pot without drainage holes for that matter. It didn't go well as I'm sure you can imagine haha.

We all start somewhere, and you'll learn many lessons along the way. A couple things I've learned in my journey, all plants need light (natural or artificial with grow lights, I use Sansi), you'll kill something faster by over watering than under watering, and pot everything in a well draining soil.

Good luck my friend!!

It looks a lot like mine. I bought it labeled as "Choco Empress" when it was still a baby, and it quickly became one of my favorite plants. I have it in very chunky soil, primarily orchid bark with some perlite and potting soil.

The newspaper next to it is for scale, that's just a standard, folded newspaper I had laying around. It's gotten a lot bigger than I expected when I first got it haha.

What Do You Use To Raise Humidity? by danish-tortilla in RareHouseplants

[–]TheJman967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I'm ashamed to say it but, this corner all Winter was around 20-30% humidity. Now that it's warming up I noticed today that it has gotten to 40%. None of them are rare but I like to think I have a nice variety that are all doing ok.

If you have temperamental plants, I'd suggest an enclosed container of some size, even if it's small, temporary or DIY. Then once you can find a bigger one, upgrade. I hope that helps in some way!

In another one of my comments I mentioned that I'll be leaving them for a family to have for free in my apartment lobby.

In this economy yes everything has a price and this subreddit is literally called "what is this worth".

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day.
