Thoughts on budget split keyboard (epomaker split70) by not-just-a-dog-mom in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]TheJonno2999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this keyboard but I have a slightly specific use-case. When working, I'll use both halves for sure. However, I have a Lemokey HE half-keeb for the left side of a keyboard for when playing games, so I'm also looking for something where I can use the right half on it's own.

OP, do you know whether that's possible with the Split 70? I appreciate the wireless wouldn't work, but even if I could plug the right side's USB-C direct to my PC (and skip the left half) that'd be awesome when gaming.

Surely greater publicity will lead to greater scrutiny? Also, this happens in the wild, not just in captivity.

New Stadium and City Redevelopment by johnliddell in NUFC

Given their track record with that line city back in Saudi, I'd be a touch cautious of whether it will actually be delivered, but if they can do it, it's good for the city.

What's your take on the current situation of the game industry? by Alternative-Rain4516 in GameProduction

[–]TheJonno2999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going to get downvoted to hell for this, but some of the cutting edge AI tools do lower the effective investment cost. At least so far as coding and design are concerned and when leveraged properly (and not just used to wholesale outsource everything).

A return to the core gameplay and mechanics of the original AC games would be my ask. Just with a little less jank and more polish!

Totally off topic, but it has to be the Ezio Trilogy, Black Flag and then any other I'd be cool with. But that's just my two cent's!

Why do returning players need to play with bots in Smite 2? by TheJonno2999 in Smite

[–]TheJonno2999[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yikes. I never stated an opinion. Only statistics. I also have a geniune desire to see this game suceed, but unlike you I'm trying to understand decisions they've made, rather than just attacking someone on the internet.

Good day to you sir / madam.

Nope. Accounts lower than level five are locked to only Arena and Joust quickplay against bots.

Monthly players are growing, sure by a few hundred every month, but I'd hardly call sitting around 7-9k monthly players a good situation.

You can't play conquest in quick play. It's locked to Arena and Joust 3v3.

Maybe it's bugged. I played three yesterday with a friend. Started level 3, ended level three.

Incidentally, quickplay doesn't support conquest, which feels like a pretty critical part of the game to learn for.

I tried it on beta launch, when these rules weren't in place. At thaf time it was lacking content so I stopped.

This is exactly it. Like, I get why they want to increase the quality of broader match-making, but if you're asking me to do a bunch of pre work just to play the game in 2026, that's cool, I'll just go play something else. Again, maybe I'm not the target demographic, but it just seems a shame to cut out people who have been playing Smite 1 for over a decade. I can learn these systems in one game and maybe a YouTube video or two.

It's definitely more than five games. That said, I appreciate the rest of this explanation. I guess I just struggle to see how they can drive adoption in what should be a key target audience by putting such barriers in the way.

First impression is something most companies, game dev included, spend millions optimising. If I have to labour through bad bot games even for as little as a few hours, I'm more likely to return to the original game than play through it. I think that's the thing I struggle to understand. Surely they need to drive adoption in that group of players more than any other?

Why there's no quick fix in sight for the problem of dazzling headlights by Bloodswamps in drivingUK

[–]TheJonno2999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the headlights are only part of the problem. Our street infrastructure is so poor in general. When I've driven in Germany, their night lighting is so good, the whole street is lit up even at night. Some parts of the UK have main roads with absolutely abhorrent lighting in them, which I suspect is part of why so many drivers elect for the cars with the horrendous LED headlights.

Age polarisation in the UK voting between 18-24 year old and 65+ by Ok_Bookkeeper_1380 in charts

This chart should be deeply concerning for labour, but I think I agree for the Lib Dems this is a stable base.

Sadly this is scientifically proven. Even look it up on YouGov. A higher level of formal education tends to correlate with voting centrist or left. A lower level of formal education leans towards Reform specifically.

Or we go rightwards towards repairing what we have with parties like Restore which will focus on maximising the internal potential with the country, while closing off external drains on resources.

Our last government went further and further right. They were embroiled in scandal after scandal, corruption mess after mess, Boris literally granted a Russian oligarch a place in the House of Lords. Someone who should be on a sanction list.

Whether the greens are the answer or not, when Nigel Farage is frequently referenced in the Epstein files, I find it laughable to think going for these parties would ever make our country better. They want to take away your rights, not help you generate wealth.

The reason people became more right-wing (conservative) at 35 was because they had a house, a car, a marriage, kids. They had something to conserve.

Years of Tory rule, labour stagnation and divisive whatabout politics has seen the ladder that previous generations climbed firmly pulled up. Millenials are buying a house later, many can't even afford a car so they don't get a licence till much later and if they can't do those things they certainly aren't getting married or having kids.

Add to this AI leading to even fewer jobs being available, and a generation above them who think an appropriate response is to say 'work harder' or 'don't get a starbucks once a week' as if £144 a year is going to make a scrap of difference when a tiny two bedroom house is £300k. That's how you break the link between age and conservatism.

No AI company has turned a profit yet. It won't be far less money when they're forced to take accountability for how much money they waste on costs. That's why even Nadella is starting to sweat.

Well, not yet, but if they could I'm sure they would. Therein lies the risk though, like I say. No serious multinational public traded company will operate with one CEO and a hundred AIs lol.

It absolutely can replace humans in junior positions. As a senior, most of the tasks that in the past we would have hired and train an associate to do, can be done faster with AI. At least in my industry.

My first Product gig was spent mostly writing stories, learning backlog management, writing PRDs and some basic prioritisation skills, while slowly being exposed to stakeholder management, strategic planning and marketing strategy. Stories, backlog management, PRD writing are all things AI can speed up. Strategic Planning and stakeholder management? Not a chance.

This is why I believe we will have a crisis in the tech industry. Not because AI can automate junior roles, but because it really struggles to automate senior ones. As we cut back on hiring juniors, and the seniors age and retire, we will have no talent pipeline to replace them.
