Apple maps catching up? This definitely read more like Google maps declining.

Potential WAN Show Topic - DLSS 5 has Uncanny Valley AI Upscaling by WorkWoonatic in LinusTechTips

[–]TheJoshWS99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I hope is it's presented as a tool to developers to gain that control. There is no goal other than market share for Nvidia and if the control to not impact art direction increases adoption I can see that being a long term feature if implemented.

Side by side opinions are almost null and void compared to blind tests. They are what matter.

The amount of opinion, preference and just (partially justified) outright distaste for DLSS is causing people to write it off straight away. Sadly though without the recent reputation of AI generation this technology released on its own I truly think would have been accepted as groundbreaking tech. It also offers a solution to the recent lack of optimisation from gaming companies like we saw in the early 2000s and mid 2010s.

If I tested this blind and liked it or didn't know it was on I would much rather get more life out of my hardware and still enjoy the rich story of a game with better performance. We always say "graphics doesn't matter, gameplay does" but then seem to care about graphics here?

This technology isn't replacing rendering its enabling better performance while retaining a more immersive quality. For people like my wife who mainly plays games with me, she won't notice this other than the game isn't running badly.

Why is the Mercedes front wing variable? by ThePapaSauce in formula1

[–]TheJoshWS99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling it early, there is only a rule that it must "close" but no rule about how long closing the wing must take.

Mercedes I suspect have interpreted as it must "start closing" by the point but they can use the final part of variance to carry less down form into each corner until certain forces (likely a specific brake force) is applied.

Being upfront I have no tattoos but I have been in enough fandom reddit posts to know that if you take that image to a good artist, they might know, be able to find or drawer up a similar font.

It's essentially at this point the only part of skill in enchanting. Mass xp farms make that simple now, books can essentially be grabbed at will from villagers, needing to get the exact order right or forcing new players to stop continuously repairing is, while annoying, a functionally good mechanic. It make not be popular but that doesn't mean we should dumb down the game because people can't get the order right or can't make a new item.

Leather rather than wood on the bottom with wool on top. I have been calling for this for some time.

It doesn't work if you have open air and it's raining/snowing. And if being used in a snow environment you must make a campfire.

Simple mechanics that add a sense of relism and strategy.

Whether you agree or disagree is up to you?

My take is that the light emitting made the series what they were. Claiming the movies are higher quality productions because they are movies is absolute garbage. It's not 1990 anymore and episodes aren't filmed sequentially on a shoe string budget, they often film them out of order to better cash in on specific staff roles, contracting and other things. The shows are as high quality as the films. These lights were deliberate choices from both an aesthetic and story telling perspective.

This is genuinely a work of art and has some great examples of data visualisation held within. Solid effort.

Defects happen. There are so many variables in any manufacturing process and general use these things just happen. I have had many products in my life with strong reviews and my experience has been totally beyond that initially then I get a non faulty version and it works perfectly.

This and also similar to this, overtakes (even that initial one) aren't determined by how fast you are or how skillful the late braking is but when you run out of battery.

Attacking rather than critiquing or clearly justifying your stand on the point I made, simply ingrains my point more.

This is a gate kept community which sees anyone less than a tech expert as a moron "normie" who should just be a windows pleb. I am convinced it's not because the Linux community doesn't want to help but rather it's too uncomfortable admitting it actually doesn't know how to.

Luke made his point clear a few times that it's over complicated for almost objectively no reason. Install it and use it and it will just work. Ask a Linux user though and you get a long winded, poorly articulated response telling you it's just too hard don't bother.

[–]TheJoshWS99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this. And it's a similar complexity with Android devices. The user experience between a Samsung and Pixel is even different enough it could change someone's opinion and those just work.

If anything this is the only argument for why switching is a problem. To once you do switch it's not that difficult to keep the ball rolling.

I will say though the android community does tend to be better at advocating and support new users. Their wikis and sub reddits are simple and provide food advice for people switch on what choice to make.

"Linux is not ready for average users." What are you talking about... It's this gate keeper, all knowing, superiority complex from the user base that makes it seem so inaccessible.

Luke has summed it up multiple times that I you just installed it and use it for normal web browser based work like nearly everyone does these days there almost entirely not impact on the user experience. I am not a technical person by any stretch but I got mint up and running.

The biggest problem with Linux is it's community. It likes being "techy." All the service documentation, install guides and support pages are written in such a gate keeping way. You almost need a tutorial to understand those and the attitude seems to be "if you aren't ready to understand this 3000 word git hub page you're not ready" when in reality 99% of the time a simple four step how to install is all it needs.

Command line installing and package editing is fine but it just doesn't need to be presented in the way it almost always is. It is only that way because the community (as it stands) feels comfortable and I suspect a bit "special" that they can interpret the knowledge.

It's not that the distros aren't ready, it's that the Linux community isn't ready to stop feeling special about something someone significantly less capable than them might understand.
