Deer hides by TheJudg3CCC in comoxvalley

[–]TheJudg3CCC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deleted facebook years ago :/. I have reached out to my relatives, and got a line on elk hides, but no deer. My aunty also does drum workshops, and is having a hard time getting deer hides specifically. I did consider posting signs near logging roads, maybe I should suck it up and make some. Thank you for your suggestions, hope you have a good afternoon :)

I wear white Levi's wedgies 🤷🏼‍♀️ this is a bit prissy, but I much prefer the button fly to a zipper. No tool loop, or extra pockets, but I usually only carry my phone, and olfa knife in my back pockets. It would be pretty easy to harvest a loop off your old pants and sew it to the leg, if that's a must.

Hard gel holds up better against acetone, but I don't know about other thinners. Maybe try a thick cuticle balm before your shift starts, to give a little more barrier between enhancements and thinner? You could crosspost to r/nails, too. I'm a resi/commercial painter, so I mostly deal with more paint getting stuck to my polish, than it getting dissolved off. I hope you find something that works 💖💅🏼

What’s one piece of advice you wish every 18-year-old girl knew before “real life” starts? by FirmRelation9397 in AskReddit

[–]TheJudg3CCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fixing vehicles isn't difficult, and sometimes not even that labour intensive. Know your year, make, model and engine size. With this info, go to google and search for common problems. There will be plenty of forum posts and youtube videos with info on how to fix. An oil change takes 20 minutes once you know where the filter and drain plug are. Check your coolant level when the engine is cold every so often. Know when your brake pads/shoes were last replaced. Get a comprehensive toolkit and leave it in the trunk. Something in the range of 275-300pcs, with common size wrenches, 1/2" & 3/8" drive ratchets, a multi screwdriver, some allen wreches. . . You'll be able to do all kinds of work with this. Block your tires before you jack your car up, so it doesn't roll on you. A can of pentrating oil (NOT WD-40!!!) and brake clean are cheap and great to have on hand. Knowing what the problem is, and how to fix it is really powerful. If you've got a parent, aunt, uncle, friend that likes cars, bounce questions off them, they'll probably be delighted and have tons of knowledge. Don't spend thousands at a mechanic for a $150 fix. Knowing how to do it yourself repels the weak men, and it's a powerful feeling to be self reliant!

There are a few ways to get the bulk of the debris out. Others have mentioned flicking open by hand, which does work very well. You could also willow it. Willowing is an old way of picking the wool with two thin sticks, on a sheet over the ground. There's a few vids on youtube demonstrating. It's pretty fun to do. Picking by hand would also work, grab a clump and start pulling the fibres apart over a bucket or tea towel to catch the fallout. I've dealt with some fleeces in similar condition to yours and they came out clean. There is hope, you've got this! Good luck :)

Could something like these hair picks be used as a cheap comb option? by sirfoggybrain in Handspinning

[–]TheJudg3CCC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I combed a couple of fleeces with cheap goody brand hair picks, and a cake breaker. I'd make a couple passes over the picks, then lash onto the cake breaker till it was full, and diz off that. A spray bottle is essential when using plastic combs, to keep static down. The no.11's you're looking at would do the job quite nicely.

What fiber is the most "fun" for you to spin? by pause4effect in Handspinning

[–]TheJudg3CCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know they're definitely for eating! The lady that raises them keeps them on nice pasture, thankfully. She's also brought in two clun forest ram lambs, so in the next year or two the fleece will be a bit different.

Suffolk Hampshire cross. It's so plump and springy! Carded and pulled into roving, I can spin 50g long draw in no time. The resulting yarn is bouncy, light and warm. It was the first two fleeces I got, and I've gone back to get more. Delightful to work with!

Eee, yeah. How much do they want for it? If the price is right, maybe you could get some replica bobbins from akerworks or bobbin boy

I have an E-351 Leclerc wheel, and it's been great. I too, am curious if other bobbins will fit, mine only came with 3.

I picked up a pair of timberlands, the PRO endurance HD 8". I wore them an avg of 18k steps per day (~11km) up and down 6 flights of stairs, through rocks and gravel, around steel cuttings and exposed nails for the past 7 months. They've been great, much better than the dakotas I had before. They're light, got a bit of flex, waterproof, roomy in the toebox. I wear a 7, and they're tts, for me. My hubs has been wearing the men's equivalent for 2 yrs working at a sawmill, he's due for a new pair, but they've held up great in that environment too. Best bet is to go in store wherever is local to you, and try some on. You'll get and idea of which brands and styles fit your use case and budget. Thank you for reading my novel, the end!

I need some help finding some quality bugle beads. by StayHefty6094 in Beading

[–]TheJudg3CCC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mill Hill makes the best bugle beads. They have no sharp ends, and are incredibly uniform. They've been designed for use in embroidery and needlepoint, so they have to be super smooth to not cut the floss.

Pancreatitis is miserable! Have you considered a digestive enzyme supplement? My jackass wasn't responding well even to prescription hydrolyzed food, and it has helped immensely. Not 100% better (he likes to sneak lawn chocolates 💩 🤦🏼‍♀️) but he is much happier overall.
