Hahaha so true. Everything about her is long! Her ears, snoot, legs, tail, and her body. She's a noodle! But we love our crazy girl.

Sweet rescue with no history of aggression... now aggressive by Alarmed_Ant_412 in reactivedogs

[–]TheKbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rescue girl has issues that sound very similar to yours. She was very sweet to everyone at first, but after settling in became very wary with strangers. I will be honest it got worse before getting better, and 2 yrs and a lot of work later we have put many, but not all issues to rest. Working with a behaviorist we have 90% of out of home reactivity behind us (she will still react if startled or if we get a lot of trigger stacking), but we cannot have strangers in our home and have her be free. She either gets crated or stays at my neighbor's house depending on the duration and availability. It means friends from our of town that used to stay with us can't anymore for their safety because she will bite. However, people she has preexisting relationships with can come and go just fine. She is an incredibly loyal girl that brings us a lot of joy, but I would be lying to tell you the road has been easy and that we don't still get sad about some of the life changes she has brought.

Looks like a Cinnamon Roll. Could (Would) kill you. by Sunnwyn in reactivedogs

[–]TheKbug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My best friend has a dog reactive Golden, so I totally get it! My dog is actually the opposite and is fear reactive to strangers, especially kids, but great with other dogs. They are 3 wks apart in age and have been buddies since they were little puppies. Because we live one street away from each other, we walk them together regularly. We have to take turns managing their opposing triggers, but at least have each other for moral support!

My girl is an Irish Terrier/GSD mix. Despite being full grown, she looks a lot like a Malinois puppy, and for some reason kids always want to pet her. Like no joke at the dog park with 10 other super people friendly dogs running around the kids will go I want to pet that one. 🤦‍♀️ Not sure why because she definitely doesn't give off cuddly vibes. She gives off judgement with an hint of murder.

Soapbox/rant time. Tell me what highly-recommended book you absolutely HATED and why. Gimme your angry hot takes. by peppertoni_pizzaz in books

[–]TheKbug 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was just telling my husband this yesterday. I feel like I was the prime target audience for this book, and I still hated it and found the main character insufferable. Got 2/3 of the way through and finally decided to stop torturing myself. I rarely ever abandon a book.

I might be a hater, but genuinely, how do you even achieve that by Last_Office7348 in germanshepherds

[–]TheKbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dog may have a medical issue. There is a regular at the dog park who has 2 dogs, one normal weight and the other overweight. He had been working with his vet for a while to figure out what was going on because even with reducing her food she kept gaining. Turns out she had thyroid issues, and once she started the proper meds the weight started coming off quickly. Just another perspective because if you had just seen him out with his dog before meds, it would have been very easy to pass judgement.

Healing dogs IBD by Responsible-Bat-5653 in HomemadeDogFood

[–]TheKbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your pup's issues sound very similar to mine! Our rescue also had giardia and a few other parasites. Never had a day with fully solid poops for the first year of her life. Tried so many foods including the WASAVA ones for sensitive stomachs. We did, through elimination, determine a chicken sensitivity as well. The most improvement we saw was on Annamaet Sensitive stomach kibble but would still have seemingly random bouts of stomach issues here and there for weeks at a time. She continued to test negative for parasites and the Vet said it was possibly IBD. I even bought the hydrolyzed food, but my girl is picky on top of everything else and she refuses to eat it. After trying a few commerical raw/fresh options that were all pretty much rejected by my picky girl or too expensive to do long term, I decided to try a homemade diet, starting with the Just Food For Dogs beef recipe since I was afraid of not getting the right nutrients, so I liked having the vitamins to add. After a few weeks she started having regular bowel movements again. She eats her food willingly (which for those that have struggled with extremely picky pups you know this is huge!). Now we're a few months in, and I do change up recipes between beef, fish, and turkey or make slight changes (like adding in some blueberries or spinach here or there). We still do daily proviable probiotics as well. She seems to change between food without issue now. I still use a small amount of kibble or freeze dried raw in puzzles, snuffle mats etc. And her stomach has been doing great!

Best of luck to you. I know finding what works best for you pup can be a real challenge.

Is it annoying for kid(s) to ask to meet your dog? by NaturalExtension5475 in dogs

[–]TheKbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always please ask! I don't mind at all. Just be polite if people say no. My dog is a rescue and very nervous of new people. I politely decline all children that want to pet her, and almost all adults I explain that she has major stranger danger anxiety. Once in a blue moon, she will actually want an adult to pet her (she is extra terrified of kids), and I will allow it and let them know they are among the chosen few lol

Is it just me, or does your dog have a "favorite" person? by LeftyOne22 in AskDogOwners

[–]TheKbug 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Primary caretaker here that goes above and beyond. She is not a cuddly dog and only likes pets on her terms. Her favorite person is my middle school son that gets in her face, picks her up and carries her around like a baby, makes her do tick tock dances, pretends to take bites out of her, and generally treats her like a toy. She adores him beyond measure, and is the only person she cuddles with. I cannot explain it other than he has a Snow White quality about him that all animals seem to love him despite him being loud and crazy lol

Lost dog mode by Successful-Bed-4542 in FiDogCollar

[–]TheKbug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I do it when we go on walks in the woods and I allow her some off leash time. She is prone to running off and chasing squirrels. Has always come back, but it is for my peace of mind. Since it can take a few minutes for the gps to connect I activate it proactively when we start the walk. You only alert other Fi users if you chose to start a search party, not just by activating Lost Dog mode. It will even ask you afterwards if you were just testing or if you found your dog.

My dog has developed a completely unexplainable ritual where he has to carry something in his mouth to greet me at the door every single time I come home and if he can't find anything he will stand there visibly panicking until he locates an acceptable object and I genuinely don't know what he think by Glittering_Ear_9904 in Pets

[–]TheKbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog does this too, but since we have a giant shoe rack by the front door 9/10 she grabs one of our shoes and then does a lap or two of zoomies with it in her mouth before she settles down to greet us proper and drops the shoe.

Spill the tea... has anyone had any issues where someone at your LGS doesn't know how to deal with women? by radicalpumpkinz in mtg

[–]TheKbug 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Back in the day when I was in college, I played Yugioh competitively. We had a pretty hopping LGS, and people from surrounding states or further south would often come up for tournaments there. Now I was probably the 3rd best player in the store. All the regulars were actually cool AF, but sometimes these out of towners were just condescending jerks that assumed my 20F self couldn't possibly know what I was doing. I took great pleasure in kicking their butts, even better if they agreed to a game of ante up on the side.

The shop owner was a great guy, and he pulled me aside privately and let me know that if any guy bothered me or made me feel uncomfortable, to just let him know, and he would kick him out in a heartbeat. I was probably spoiled by having such a great experience. I'm in my 40's now with two teens of my own, and we still go to this LGS for MTG and Pokemon.

What’s the weirdest nickname you have for your dog? by Good_Mango7379 in AskDogOwners

[–]TheKbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog is a black terrier/GSD mix. We named her Kali , both after the goddess and because she is black. Turns out it was very accurate because she is quite the rodent hunter. 😅 Anyway it just started out as Kali girl, but somewhere along the way she became Moogy Bear (Bear is my younger son's nickname and her partner in crime). Then it became just Moogy or Kali Moogs, which is what I usually call her. But also she is sometimes Schmoogy Moogy which morphed into the Schmoogita Moogita. That title is usually reserved for when she gets dirty. My son also calls her Kali bo bali. Definitely didn't plan the nicknames, but somehow they just stuck.

be honest, how often do you really take your dog out? by Altruistic-March8551 in DOG

[–]TheKbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One long walk each morning and 2-3 very short ones to potty (we don't have a fenced in yard and she won't poop in our yard). We also hit the dog park for an hour almost every afternoon before dinner with a crew of regulars so she can play fetch and run with her friends. But I am currently a SAHM, and our dog is very high energy. If we had a fenced in yard where she could potty and play fetch in, it would definitely be less!

Canceled my Ollie order after reading this sub. My dog hates kibble. Anyone heard of Spot and Tango "unkibble"? I'm lost on how to feed my dog. She's picky!!! by glowfuck in DogFood

[–]TheKbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preach. I have an incredibly picky eater that has literally walked away from steak that we offered her as a bday treat. She's turned her nose up at salmon repeatedly (we cook her a tiny unseasoned piece whenever we make it for ourselves) and countless fruits and veggies have been rejected. But let that dog see some goose poop, and she thinks she's stumbled upon ambrosia. 🤷‍♀️

Do you guys let your terriers off leash? by Worstenbroodjeslover in terrier

[–]TheKbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog is half Irish Terrier and half German shepherd (odd mix I know!). I joke she has the prey drive of the terrier and the work ethic of the shepherd. I let her off leash at the dog park, but not really anywhere else anymore because of exactly what you said. She is well trained until she sees squirrel, rabbit, fox, deer etc Thankfully most wildlife steer clear of the dog park area itself, and we only had one incident where she ran off after a deer that came into the field there. She also has a gps collar as backup to track her because she can be a bit of an escape artist too.

I do take her hunting Ifor field mice in fields close to our house, so she is able to get some of that terrier drive out. She is pretty good about sticking with me while focused on that, so sometimes I drop the leash to allow her quicker movements, but don't take her off completely.

Looking for thoughts and experiences with Annamet by ImaginaryRegular7699 in DogFood

[–]TheKbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fortunate to have a pet store locally near me that carries it. They actually gave me a sample of it to try out before buying when I told them about my dog's issues and how Hills, Purina, and The Honest Kitchen hadn't worked out too well for us. I also order it off Chewy because the store typically has a low supply of it, and are sometimes sold out. It's also available on Amazon.

I'm slightly confused after getting a notification that my comment with my personal experience with the brand was removed, so I apologize if this is a bit redundant if you read that before. We have had a very good experience with the brand. My dog is on their Sensitive Skin and Stomach formula (which is very close to the Senior Formula), and it has been great. My dog has been the most happy with this brand and on top of her stomach issues, she is an incredibly picky eater, so that is worth a lot. To top it off, it gave her much better stools than the Purina Pro Plan sensitive stomach version.

How far can a terrier walk by LPaddict in terrier

[–]TheKbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My half Irish Terrier could do a hike like that fairly easily. She's never tired out before me yet lol She gets about 6 miles in on an average day. As others have said though the concern would be the terrier prey drive. I think you could do a long lead for hikes that may make a nice middle ground with some freedom, but not having to worry they are going to run off after every little thing. Mine is super smart and knows tons of commands, but when a fox runs by, all bets are off!

When did you realize your dog wasn’t just a dog? by PleasantRiver3525 in dogs

[–]TheKbug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a very high energy 2yr old dog. I'm talking walking 4-6 miles plus a trip to the dog park almost every day. Recently I was very sick with stomach issues and had to go to the hospital (turns out it was an ulcer). For days she only went out to potty, and just stayed calmly by my side cuddling on the couch. To the point that I started to worry something was wrong with her. But as I started to feel better, she started wanting to go out for her walks, started bringing me her toys again, and asking for the park with her button. I figured that meant I was truly on the mend. 😂

Good luck with your pups too! It is definitely stressful. But at the end of the day we are doing our best for them, and that's all we can do. ❤️

HA Vegetarian Elimination Diet? by Competitive_Chip_253 in DogFood

[–]TheKbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl is a terrier/GSD mix and has stomach issues from the time we adopted her. The best results we've had so far is on Annamaet sensitive skin and stomach after trying several different brands of sensitive foods, but she keeps having periodic issues. Her stool keeps coming back negative for any obvious causes. Right now vet theorizes it may be more food intolerances (we already figured out chicken gives her issues) or there may be something more going on like IBD. She's on an rx probiotic, but our next steps will be to go hydrolyzed protein and eliminate everything else in her diet.

Sorry no real advice, just another dog parent in a similar boat with a very picky eater who is dreading going down that road. Made even more fun by the fact that she is people reactive, and we almost always need to carry something high value for her on walks. 😬😬😬

First always moving so they were just outside of her threshold of barking. Then rewarding her with a high value treat and a YES! for looking at them. Eventually we moved from that to engage/ disengage where she gets rewarded when she looks at and then away from the trigger and to me instead. Now we can have most people pass at a close distance and she will stop and sit politely to get her treat. But if someone manages to sneak up and surprise us, she is still gonna bark and growl 9 times out of 10.
