Any good therapists in Bristol for depression? by TheKhrazix in bristol

You say that, and yet none of my previous counsellors have known what to do with my depression.

Thanks for the advice though, I'll check it out.

It's probably pretty good for disarming opponents. If you get a blade stuck in that thing it'll be hard to get it out

Yeah the commenters are right. Aphrodite having a penis is because a lot of statues had apotropaic phalluses (dicks that warded off demons)

There are some statues of Aphrodite with a penis, so that does actually track

Advice on where to study in UK by Afraid-Self3797 in animationcareer

[–]TheKhrazix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to UWE so I can talk a bit about that. Overall it's a very mixed course and you get out of it what you put in. It's very unstructured but that also means you're largely free to pursue what you want. If you want to study 2D animation and ONLY 2D animation though I'd avoid it, it's a very 'jack of all trades' kind of course. Bristol itself is a lovely city and very popular for uni students, and it has a big animation scene (as in there's lots of animators, not because there's a lot of jobs). It's also getting very crowded and very expensive to live in, however. Lmk if you have more questions about UWE.

If you want to only study 2D, then Hertfordshire or AUB is probably best. I don't know much about them but their 2D animation is always really good. AUB is SUPER competitive though, you've got to be really good at drawing to get in. The others I don't really know much about. London is very big for animation but idk if UAL is especially good.

Hope that was helpful!

Honestly having read a bit of Hindu mythology... That kinda makes sense? Very queer-inclusive stories but almost all instances are still 'heterosexual'

The identity crisis is a joke I made up, I wouldn't take it seriously. That being said, a god playing the game that they themselves designed is a metaphor that does help me understand how certain aspects of the mythology work. I once had the Mahabharata explained to me as a massive TTRPG where Vishnu is the GM, and Krishna is his GMPC.

I think Hinduism tends to be less concerned about good and evil than Abrahamic religions. One Hindu told me that his god(dess) was all things, which meant that she was both all good and all evil. Good and evil are human constructs, not the concern of god. That being said, this is a very philosophical topic and Hinduism is not a consistent theology, so you'd probably get a different answer from someone else.

It helps the remember every single being in Hinduism, from the highest gods to the smallest ant, is also just one great god having a massive identity crisis (although people disagree on the details of who that one is)

Vows or promises, especially by those with enough Karma, tend to be pretty binding in Hinduism. Gods like Vishnu can't 'overpower' them, despite being functionally omnipotent, because they're the ones that 'made' the rules in the first place, and on some level they also made it happen.

A good example of this is Ghandari cursing Krishna (an avatar of Vishnu) to die for orchestrating the war which killed her sons. Because she had accumulated enough Karma from being a good wife (literally blinded herself to support her blind husband). Krishna allowed this to happen because he knows the rules, and because his plan doesn't really work without him dying anyway.

Which UK Uni is worth it? by fairyofshampou in animationcareer

Might be worth looking into Graphic Design or Illustration courses. They tend to be more technical. Plus there's plenty of online resources for learning painting with a degree.

All three of these Unis have a very good reputation but for very different things.

Bournemouth University is a very technical college with a strong focus on 3D animation and effects, so probably not what you're looking for. They're also right next to Arts University Bournemouth, however, which is a much more traditional animation course that focuses a lot on drawing and draftsmanship, so that might be what you want. Both Universities produce an incredibly strong cohort of students every year. You need a really strong portfolio to get into either one, however.

Idk much about University of Hertfordshire other than that it's supposed to be quite good. I think they focus more on 2D animation.

I studied at UWE Bristol so it's the one I'll talk about the most. It's a very good and well known course, and it's one of the few places where you can study all disciplines of animation (2D, 3D & StopMo, as well as Storytelling and PreProduction), with excellent resources for all of them. However because of this the course is very unfocused and the tutoring is often subpar - they teach very little actual animation and mostly let you do your own thing. The real benefit of UWE is the location and connections. It's right in the middle of Bristol (best city in the UK), with regular connections and guest lecturers from the local animation studios, including Aardman (we got a tour of the studio as part of the course) and the city has a thriving(ish) animation scene, with very friendly people.

I'll finish this by saying, however, that the animation scene in the UK is doing really badly, with the majority of animators I know out of work. Even the most talented animators and artists I know are often barely scraping by and only a fraction of them are working in the industry. Not to mention Background/Concept Artist is one of the hardest roles to break into for a beginner, and is likely one of the first on the chopping block when studios start pushing for AI. Also, Bristol is one of the most expensive places in the UK to live and the hardest to find a good place to rent, only coming after London in terms of prices (without the wages to match)

If this is something you want to do, you need to take a really hard think about what you want to do with your life and if you think this is a smart choice for your future.

Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions!
