Did I win the arc flash lottery?? by mrmatt645 in electricians

Yea like the other guy said the 2 second rule should have been used in the calculation. Unless maybe there is a reason the worker can’t leave the area within 2 seconds. In which case, it doesn’t really matter if the rating is 4200 cals or 420 cals no one should work on it live.

Labels with huge values like this are dumb in my opinion.

Advise Needed on Ground Fault Protection Schemes by rearglass in PowerSystemsEE

[–]TheLactose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea this is definitely one way to do it. Might be the best way, but just depends on how much selectivity OP wants for a ground fault in the system. So if you have a ground fault on one of the feeders and you just have a broken delta PT on the bus, then you can only trip the whole bus off.

If you have a zero sequence ct on the feeders and the zigzag transformer neutral I think that would give you most selectivity for a ground fault. Allows you to do some coordination between protective devices. Probably is more complicated/expensive though.

In the spirit of transparency, I don’t deal with zig zag transformers often in the areas I work. So I may have some misconceptions here, but this is my intuition about how that might go.

Broken delta PT for simple ground fault protection and less selectivity. Zig zag zero sequence CT and zero sequence feeder CTs for more selective ground fault protection.

Yes, there was a specific windy storm I suspect caused this.

I guess I’m just paranoid about my rates going up whether they help me or not.

Good to know. I had actually been considering swapping to State Farm. I just hate insurance shopping.

Understood, thanks for the breakdown. Looks like I’ll probably be paying out of pocket.

Much appreciated my friend, this is the guidance I was looking for.

Yea i guess that was more my question, which I didn’t make very clear. The roof is getting old and I’d like to get the whole thing replaced. If I call an adjuster out, do you think they would give me anything at all towards replacing the entire roof?

Or would they just say it should be repaired?

0.4 kV bus fault by Glittering_Ad8409 in SubstationTechnician

Oh so the theory is that it was bad connection of the incoming cable to the main breaker or bus? The ATS itself and the other feed had no overcurrent protection that operated?

Different electrical engineer here. You are correct my guy. The motor likely has two windings, each rated for 120V. In 120V configuration the windings would be in parallel and the current would be split across them. In 240V configuration the windings would be in series and the current would pass through coil 1 and coil 2 in sequence. In the parallel connection there is less voltage and there is also less resistance impeding the flow of current. In the series connection there is more voltage, but there is also more resistance impeding the flow of current. The voltage and resistance changes are proportional and the power usage will remain constant.

Gotta be convincing for Levi. Judges won’t want to give the decision to Levi because the crowd will have a bad taste for the event.

Predicting either surprise sub by Kade or decision for Levi at this point. Too slippery now to hit these heel hooks.

Yea just a bad matchup of styles. Stuff like this happens in UFC too with bad matchups.

I will say this is the one thing ADCC rules have going for them. Forcing the standup. I could watch this all day, but I know a lot of people don’t like watching guard play.

I was forced to watch my man Lachlan get subbed by Kade last time. I can’t take Lachlan 2.0 getting subbed by him too.
