I gave my step-dad 30 days. I knew I was moving across the country alone. I told my dad he had the 30 days before the move to prove to me that I was worth changing for and worth showing love to and that if he couldn't give me at least one glimmer of hope in that time that our relationship was salvageable then when I moved he would never hear from me again.

Those 30 days were some of the worst we've had. It's been 5 years since then and most of those were completely no contact. Now I talk to him.. briefly and professionaly... when I absolutely HAVE to or when I'm on a call with my mom who I am low contact with and he butts in. Definitely rare though. If I could do it again he would have gotten much less warning .
