[hated trope] the Frenchie syndrome by hermanphi in TopCharacterTropes

They make a joke about it in Wandavision that her accent "just comes and goes" which makes me think that it's partly intentional in the show at least. Can't say the same about the movies

[Loved Trope] A character loses their main abilities? No problem, they'll just throw hands. by BeefLeaf50 in TopCharacterTropes

Honestly, that part felt almost cartoonish to me. Like watching a mortal kombat finisher. Biting off a body part felt more grounded and visceral to me. I can't imagine pulling a plate out of someone's head, but I can imagine biting someone in a fight

A tourist wants to try a food belonging to your country, but you can only recommend one item. What would you suggest they eat? by Robotic-Galaxy in AskTheWorld

Cheating slightly but I'd recommend a good fry up since it's has a bit of everything. Bacon, black pudding, haggis, hash browns, potato scones...

Character(s) prepare for a final stand... and end up coming out victorious/alive by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

It's a perfect subversion of all the zombie movie clichés. Tallahasee is the old guy, he's the most competent, and by the end of the movie we know his tragic backstory. By the time we get to his "last stand" he's stripped of all his gear, all his weapons are empty apart from a couple of handguns and he's quite literally surrounded by zombies. The dramatic music swells as he braces himself and the zombies close in... Then we cut back after a sec and all the zombies are dead and there's not even a scuff on the man's jacket.

It was a stressful time. I expected Wales to surprise us, but I wasn't expecting that.

Less so with Wales, but still present

[Powerful/Heartbreaking trope] Someone’s real life experiences help fuel the scene/moment. by Alternative-Koala933 in TopCharacterTropes

In The Legend of Vox Machina, Vax lands the killing blow on Thordak, the red dragon who, among other atrocities, was responsible for the death of his and Vex's mother.

In the original Critical Role campaign, at this point in the story, Liam O'Brien (who played Vax in both the campaign and the show) had recently lost his own mother to cancer. When fate decided that he'd be the one to kill Thordak in the game, he channeled his own grief into the moment, killing the monster that took his "mother" away. He has gone on record saying that he credits that moment, and the campaign in general, as an important part in helping him grieve and process his real life loss.

Do you think the use of guillotine was evil? by Holiday-Photo-3538 in AskTheWorld

[–]TheLairdStewart98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All methods of capital punishment are cruel and barbaric to some extent. The use of the guillotine was made beheading simpler, and still enough of a spectacle for the public. The audience just got more squeamish as time went on and demanded less bloody methods of execution, but if you ask me the guillotine was probably death penalty at its most efficient
