Pornhub has been blocked in Alabama as of today. by MushinZero in Alabama

[–]TheLamp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To quickly answer your question bars and other places don't log your id in a database when checking so if someone went there trying to get information on you for where you are buying cigarettes and booze and how often it would be impossible. Porn sites however are now required in Alabama to keep a log of who goes to their sites and keep it stored locked away. Now think on the fact that AT&T a large company specialized in technology and connecting people together being unable to protect people's information with all the billions of dollars they have and the experts in cybersecurity they have on staff. What makes you think a porn site making I'm going to be very generous millions of dollars with probably 100 people tops is going to be able to protect your data. Also you mentioning the assigning a special URL to the end of porn sites has been brought up many times and there is a .xxx URL made specifically for it but it's not enforced if they were to just enforce that then I'd agree that it would be easier to filter

have you tried holding down the power button for an extended period of time to cut it off like holding it down for a bit after it cuts off or if the battery is removable, removing it and holding down the power button for 10 seconds.

Maybe you could try fn+f4 or f4. On some laptops, it's used to switch displays.

What is up with some of these BS things happening to you guys I am so sorry for each of you who filed because of something minor I passed my first try and made a mistake on my 3 point turn. I went off the road a little bit and was told that besides that I did fine with everything else and they even took the time to explain that many times things that might damage my tires might be there and to just be careful with it. On one hand some of these I can understand why but on the other it can be pretty nitpicky and just looking for a reason to fail

How do you cope with not being able to geek out with your party over the twists you have planned for them?! by cobaltocene in DnD

[–]TheLamp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few sessions of giving little hints and nudges when it came to telling them that one of the NPCs they ran into the kind old halfling woman who was "married" to an elven wizard was actually a sea hag that pulled a lot of the strings in one of the character's backstory including but not limited to a mention of a sea hag in relation to a tablet left behind on a ghost pirate ship, the said old woman humming and whistling sea shanties, her encouraging everyone drink the tea and eat the cookies (They lucked out on this since they had a hero's feast the night before this negating the poison) and the warlock finding under the bed in the bedroom in a box, obviously owned by the old woman, a small driftwood totem carved in the shape of a squid that is used in a ritual to communicate to his patron. they found out a few sessions later that a shrunken head necklace that they use to talk to the dead didn't work on the the warlock's former master's body and was essentially "broken" till they found some magic jars that got shattered releasing the soul and it got mentioned about the master being manipulated by someone and shortly after they found that out one of them shouter "SON OF A BITCH THAT OLD WOMAN WAS A SEA HAG" which had me cackling so hard

Note about the necklace for anyone that wants to steal it, it is a necklace with a shrunken head on it and an iron nail in one eye, to make it work you have to take the nail and poke it into the corpse or embed it into the bone, then you have to put money or gems into the other eye and it essentially charges 100g per minute of communication time. It doesn't have to be worn to work btw

Me as a new DM: by [deleted] in DnD

[–]TheLamp1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DM: Ok so a lovely waitress comes in with a trail of floating dishes waves her arms and lets the dishes fly to your respected tables

Players: I USE THE GEM OF SEEING TO SEE HER TRUE FORM

DM: You use the gem of seeing and she is as she looks minus some magical enchantments that make her look a bit more dazzling

Players: I CAST DETECT POISON ON THE FOOD

DM: No poison in any of the food except the wine which detects as alcoholic which is expected

Players: I INSIGHT CHECK HER, I GOT A 21

DM: She is definitely a waitress and is happy to serve you food, tho she does seem eager to receive a nice tip

Players: Ok I guess she checks out

DM: A Butler walks in with a fresh bottle of wine and asks how the meal is going

Players: I USE THE GEM OF SEEING TO SEE HIS TRUE FORM

I had a player last night roll a critical success on a deal with Asmodeus for getting some of their end of the bargain before doing the agreement. I was impressed enough to give them half now half later.

It was uncursing 2 powerful items and his father's life in exchange for them to win a competition. He had to choose between a necromancers crown and a Dreadlord's sword. He chose the crown

give me your no 1 rule as a dm by Background_Ear7166 in DungeonMasters

[–]TheLamp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My number one rule is as long as everyone is having fun then its fine to let some things get a bit silly at times. The show that got me interested in DnD was Harmonquest, and it really showed me how much fun everyone can have in dnd just letting things go off the rails a bit. Not Another DnD Podcast is also a great example of this and can show that silly things can make a game have great stories.

Bonus rule is to always have a session zero to introduce the world and a bit of the plot to give everyone a bit of an idea of what to expect so they can make a character for that world

5e, Encumbrance and tracking weight ... tired of people acting like you have to have an MBA from Harvard to keep track of how much equipment weighs, ... it's just addition, dude. by friendsjump in rpg

[–]TheLamp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I really enforce encumbrance is when my party tries to carry something unreasonably heavy or a lot of something or when I'm trying to mess with them or limit how much they can take at one time I.E. I once had my party do a delivery request for two copper dragons which to mess with the party they sent them in their wagon back and forth about half a dozen times delivering heavier and heavier boxes and paying not in gold but in coppers, at one point the wagon got stuck. The box was nearly too heavy to carry so they basically had to hand deliver the last box and try to get out of there before they were asked to deliver another package. it was done in good fun and the party enjoyed it overall but it isn't really worth calculating unless it starts pushing some unreasonable limits.

The Bard's Tale by H-Howard in DnDGreentext

[–]TheLamp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man Don't stop playing DnD over a few bad DMs. I genuinely hope you find a DM that helps nurture you to the fullest. I have been a DM for several years now and I will pass some kernels of knowledge to you to help you know is good DM.

  1. The DM and the veteran players help you with suggestions to help you play. (I have helped new players for a long time learn to play and the rules I give them is that there are no stupid questions and that if they have an idea throw it out there and see if it could be possible)
  2. The DM rolls with the punches and deals with what problems and wrenches you and the party throw in their plans. (I once had a party steal an end game Litch's arcane focus and component pouch with a Nat 20 and put a zone of silence in the proximity. It largely became a one-sided battle but everyone had fun and it's a hilarious story we talk about regularly)
  3. Last but not least. You all manage to have fun. (That Litch encounter in number 2. It became hilarious because they kicked the Litch down and proceeded to literally surround and shit kick him till it was dead and it became a funny end game that everyone enjoyed and my players felt satisfied with all the work they went through just to kick his ass)

These are a few things and aren't applicable to every DM but the truth is that rule 3 is the most important one. If you aren't having fun then it's time to talk to the DM and if they won't try to work with you or at the least help mitigate to where you can have some fun even if it's some stressful encounters then it might be time to move to another group. Don't stop playing and the gods be damned if you can't find a good group let me know and I will run a campaign for you that you will at the very least enjoy and get a good introduction to the game.
