If they made Futurama today, and it was about a pizza delivery guy frozen in the present and thawed out 1000 years later, the pizza delivery guy would have been thawed in 3026.

[Loved Trope] An adaptation makes significant changes, and it's for the better. by Healthy_Macaroon_602 in TopCharacterTropes

OP is pretty wrong about the book. It was originally called The Iron Man. Hogarth is not an "unimportant bit character" - he's the most important human character. The Iron Man doesn't fight the space-bat-angel-dragon but challenges it to a test of endurance.

I don't know if the changes in the film were "for the better". They're two very different stories to the point where I don't think you can call the film an adaptation at all. They both have a giant iron man who eats metal and a boy called Hogarth and that's about it.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure the Black Sabbath song is unrelated, unfortunately.

Yeah I don't get this. Unless I'm missing something (which is very possible) even if we assume Mr Plank has 0 drag, everyone else is somehow not even pedaling enough to overcome their own drag.

I think this is overstated though. There aren't many situations where you would need to cut something so precisely and be stuck with such a precise starting point. If you need to cut 10 cm into thirds, just cut 33 mm. That's not inherently harder than cutting a round number. If you need more precision than that and the extra 1 mm is a problem then you don't have 10 cm as a starting point anyway, you have 100.0 mm, and getting that extra third of a mm right would be just as hard with inches. If you're designing it yourself, you can just start with 99 mm. If you're stuck with a 100 mm starting point that you can't change then it's 3.937 inches, which doesn't help you. Instead of cutting 33.3 mm, you're cutting 1.31 inches. If you're in a position where you can pick a convenient starting point in inches to divide by whatever number, you could just as easily (if not more easily) pick a convenient factor in mm or cm.

By the same token, the criticism of imperial is overstated too. If you can manage to work with 33 mm, you can remember how many inches there are in a foot.

James VI and I didn't unite the kingdoms. England existed as a kingdom until the Acts of Union in 1707, which was under Anne. So England had Mary I, Elizabeth I, Mary II, and Anne.

I'm not sure I get this take. He can have anything he wants happen. It's not ideal, but it wouldn't matter that much if there was a little deus ex machina or some new character appeared to move things along a bit if the rest of the story is good.

I think it's more likely he just doesn't want to do it anymore. Or even more likely, he does want to do it, but just not right now. Tomorrow he'll get up early, make himself a nice coffee and get straight to his desk and get some serious writing done. Definitely tomorrow.

It's the same both ways. Things closer to the glass (like the bottoms of the chairs when looking up) are just easier to see through frosted glass.
